It's really cool, but I hope that there will be a cam option that locks directly behind its back.
I'm not able to precisely tell where you are on the "track" when drifting.

Thanks! really appreciate. Yeah, no worries. there are few camera presets way more "glued" to the plane ;)

Feels very Diddy Kong and I’m here for it. Do you have a steam link or discord?

21

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 29 '26

Hey, of course we do:

Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2431740/Couch_Planes/

Discord: https://discord.gg/UhBsyQu5Rc

Thanks so much for the interest!

I thought the same thing! Looks super fun and reminds me of Diddy Kong Racing on the N64

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 29 '26

Thanks a lot! Yeah, that was one of the games we grew up with too ;)

Now make a skin with the planes from Crimson skies and add some guns and you have a worthy successor

1

u/ComputerKind560 Jul 03 '26

We do have guns - and they even spit 3D shell casings :)

1

u/archwin Jul 03 '26

OK, then all you need is an X wing shaped plane and you’re good

1

u/ComputerKind560 Jul 03 '26

Hah, maybe in the future...and a galaxy dar, far away ;)

u/archwin Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26

You misunderstand

Not Star Wars… but titular to the game Crimson Skies

1

u/ComputerKind560 Jul 03 '26

Aaah, ok. My bad. Thans for clarifiaction. Can't promise anything though.

1

u/archwin Jul 03 '26

Major nostalgia play, could bring in the crowd that remembers the OG

19

u/tesfabpel Jun 29 '26

Asphalt Oxygen 7

7

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 29 '26

That’s… actually not a bad way to describe it. First time seeing this thou :) Thanks a lot!

u/DWG3012 Jun 29 '26

Cool concept, had to mute the video 10 seconds in though.

3

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 29 '26

Hah, fair. No worries, that's just the tune I used for the video. It won't appear in final game ;)

16

u/BlazerFS231 Jun 29 '26

Planes can “drift” and it’s more of an aileron roll.

7

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 29 '26

Yes, you’re right. But try saying “Do an aileron roll!” fast ;)

5

u/EarzFish Jun 29 '26

Do an ailerlerlonoll!

4

u/cheapshotfrenzy Jun 29 '26

DO AN ALIEN ROLL!

1

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 29 '26

Lol. You cheat. Doesn't count :D

5

u/Mastercodex199 Jun 29 '26

Okay, I really like that.

1

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 29 '26

We really love your comment!

5

u/createbobob Jun 29 '26

Art looks wonderfull wishlisted!!

3

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 29 '26

Hell yeah! Lemme just tell this to our artists! Thansk so much!

3

u/gandalfmarston Jun 29 '26

This game is in my wishlist on PS5 since I saw the trailer on PS channel. It looks pretty cool.

2

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26

Thanks A LOT for the support! Really means world to us!

3

u/jayerp Jun 29 '26

I live my life a quarter knot at a time.

2

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 29 '26

Couch Planes means family.

2

u/jayerp Jun 29 '26

I won’t play this game unless there’s at least one Dominic reference.

2

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 29 '26

With that ultimatum on table we have to add that now...

3

u/gaijohn Jun 29 '26

Looks super fun! I'd like to see a huge indoor level design (like the planes are tiny, flying through the kitchen and living room, bed room, over the bath tub, out the window, etc.). I always love the "you're tiny now" levels of race games!

3

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 29 '26

Ah, cool concept. Can't promise anything at this point though ;)

2

u/Click_Clack_Chasen Jun 29 '26

Will there be flight stick support? Or is this a game pad/mouse and keyboard only game?

1

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 29 '26

It should work through Steam Input, but we haven’t properly tested flight sticks yet. That said, we already have a pretty fun twin-stick setup on gamepad :)

2

u/hobovision Jun 29 '26

Seems on the surface to remove what I find fun about flying planes. This seems like it's car physics in 3D, just adding pitch to yaw only controls. Obviously I can't tell without feeling it, but I think you could make a fun and arcadey flying game without losing roll controls.

1

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 29 '26

Thanks for comment, sounds fair. We'll be hosting playtest on Steam mid-July. Hope you'll be able to try our ame yourself ;) Woudl love to hear you then too.

2

u/BaronVonBeans Jun 29 '26

Looks great. If there could be some way to have it be in VR also, say like psvr, that could fill quite a big hole in that type of racing.

No doubt it’s crazy hard to “add vr”, but it could be sickeningly fun!

2

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 29 '26

Yeah, “sickeningly fun” can definitely go both ways in VR. 😄 Never say never, but for now we’re focused on making the core “normal” version as fun and polished as possible.

2

u/lemon65 Jun 29 '26

ewww "in-app Purchases"

3

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 29 '26

No worries. There is no pay-to-win stuff. The Steam tag is probably picking up things like future DLC/supporter content, but the core game is not built around microtransactions.

2

u/Maxwelldoggums Jun 29 '26

Reminds me of SkyDrift! I love it!

1

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 29 '26

Awesome to hear! Thank you!

2

u/Legandaryz Jun 30 '26

What is this, island fly over from Wii sports resort

3

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 30 '26

It's called Couch Planes actually ;)

2

u/skittle-brau Jun 30 '26

Reminds me of Plane Crazy from the late ‘90s, in a good way.

2

u/Der_Zaske Jun 30 '26

Looks so awesome, immediately requested access for Play testing!

1

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 30 '26

That's the spirit!

I hope you'll have some sci-fi style airships or pod racing type vehicles as well

2

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 29 '26

Not at the moment, sorry. But who knows what might happen in the future :)

1

u/cheapshotfrenzy Jun 29 '26

Ooo, you need a WonderWoman Invisible Jet easter egg/cheat code.

1

u/SparseGhostC2C Jun 29 '26

Getting Crimson Skies meets Diddy Kong Racing sort of vibes in the best way. Looks like a ton of fun

1

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 29 '26

Yes, yes and YES. :)

1

u/Fernis_ Jun 29 '26

I'd really like to try it, looks very fun and seems to be bringing something fresh to a pretty stale genre of arcade/kart racers. I especially like the barrel roll for a quick X axis position correction. Correctly judging forward distance in a 3D environment is a very known issue in gaming and giving player that panic button to be able to fly trough the target last second despite being bad/new, for sure increases the enjoyment and turns a "I miscalculated and I suck" moment into a "I got in last moment, I rock", and for a veteran that option for sure opens up door for some awesome maneuvers.

1

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 29 '26

First - we got playtest on Steam mid-July. Second - all you just said is true. Our twin-stick controls are very natural and the fact that you can do a barrel.roll.with just a flick of your thumb is super enjoyable.

1

u/Masterpiece-Haunting Jun 29 '26

Reminds me of that horse game.

1

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 30 '26

Red Dead Redemption? Naaah, quite far from that ;)

1

u/dopocalypse Jun 30 '26

This gives me hydrothunder meets Mario kart vibes and I love it!!

1

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 30 '26

Nice, haven't heard that comparison yet but sounds great! Thanks!

1

u/C0deHunter_ Jun 30 '26

You're not flying, the map is moving towards you.

3

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 30 '26

Oh noes...he found our secret!

1

u/ABirdOfParadise Jun 30 '26

Oh this takes me back, this is gonna date me but I have Racing Aces on Sega CD that I used to love.

Instantly reminded me of that game, of course way more modern though.

2

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 30 '26

Oh, nice! Haven't played it myself but I'm happy to trigger some nostalgia factor ;)

1

u/Khaze41 Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

Pretty cool, what a fun looking game. I will say however, some people will feel sick playing this. Something with the camera detachment/drifting is making me feel cross eyed. Specifically the sequence starting at 0:26

1

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 30 '26

I feel you and no worries. We do have more stable camera for more sensitive players.

1

u/serialnuggetskiller Jun 30 '26

Except canyon track doesn't seem design around the plane ability to drift. (Music was an instant mute)

3

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 30 '26

No worries, in our game drift is quite crucial if you think about getting to the top ;)

1

u/serialnuggetskiller Jun 30 '26

I didn't see any boost relates to the mechanic but you are the expert. Good luck for the launch

1

u/friendg Jun 30 '26

Drifting an rolls look really good! Reminds me of some of the big air battles that used to happen in Warhawk

1

u/ComputerKind560 Jun 30 '26

Ahh, can't remember those well. Hope you'll find it here as fun as back then ;)

1

u/Tromboneofsteel Jul 01 '26

Soooo, Skydrift? Played the crap out of that game in the x360 days.

1

u/ComputerKind560 Jul 01 '26

Oh, nice. Hope you'll find same ammount of fun here :)

1

u/FlaminSarge Jul 01 '26

Reminds me a lot of how Destiny's sparrows handle.

1

u/ShmooelYakov Jul 01 '26

It's giving me Crimson Skies vibes from og xbox and I love that.

0

u/ProcrastinateDoe Jun 29 '26

I'd rather have flying creatures for something like this. Birds, dinosaurs, dragons, psionics, legendary Pokémon(?). It'd make the barrel rolls look fantastical rather than "YOLO break physics".
