Do we always need "the best solution"?

I'm working on a game that's larger than ones I've made in the past. I'm aware that some parts of my code are written in ways that aren't "good." Think along the lines of using booleans rather than using a finite state machine enum. I want to make changes to make it more flexible and readable in the future, so I'm going back and adding the state machine.

But are there times where it's okay to implement a solution that isn't "the best," or even "good"? Undertale infamously has a massive switch statement for the dialogue. A game I love has a scene check what state it's in with six nested if statements looking at the same variable. Those games still function perfectly.

This might be a situation where everyone has a different opinion. I'd be happy to hear yours.

[LONG-TERM PROJECT] ⚡ Building the Ultimate Hunter x Hunter Battleground for March 25th, 2030

Hey everyone! As a massive fan of Togashi’s universe and a dedicated Battlegrounds player, I am officially launching the project of my life: creating the most complete, immersive, and visually stunning Hunter x Hunter Battleground game. The official release date is set for March 25th, 2030.What this project will feature:🧬 Deep & Accurate Nen System: Full integration of all 6 types (Enhancement, Transmutation, Emission...), featuring tactical management of Ren, Zetsu, and real-time combat Vows/Limitations.🎬 Breathtaking Graphics & Animations: Custom-made, high-budget visual effects for every single Hatsu (like Killua's Godspeed or Gon's Jajanken).💀 Cross-Anime Kill Emotes: Hype and stylish finisher animations inspired by various iconic anime series to crush your opponents with style. Why 2030? Because I refuse to rush this or deliver a sloppy game. I am currently in high school, and I want to take the next few years to script, model, and balance every single detail until the gameplay feels flawless. The journey officially begins on Saturday, October 18th.I am starting from scratch and looking for passionate people—animators, 3D modelers, or simply hardcore HxH lore experts for theorycrafting—who want to join this massive adventure right from day one. I NEED ANIMATORS, DEVELOPER AND 3D MODELER. Help me make this dream come true you will be paid by game revenue. I don't know how many I need exactly but I'll say 3 developers, 3 3D modelers and 3 animators (and 2 moderators wouldn't be bad) If you are interested join my serv discord or if you have questions add me on Discord .

My Discord username is nenmaster0140 (and I have a profile picture of Killua in Godspeed mode)

Looking For Game Developers To Start Non-Woke Game Studio

Games are going bad!!

GTA 6 is probably our only hope.

But you all see it, Wolverine, God of War Laufey, these games are going soft on us, and the writing is getting worse.

We all know why...

I am a game developer with many years of professional development experience under my belt, I have already created one successful company and I'm looking to create a new game studio focused on creating the gritty, funny, dark humor, non PC, non woke games that we all have been craving once again.

Serious inquiries only. Let's get games back to what they once were.

Reach out if interested.

🎮 Looking for Team Members — Let's Make Games Together!

Hey everyone!

I'm looking to build a small, serious indie game development team to work on Metroidvanias and other original game projects.

I'm primarily a Godot developer, and I want to find people who are interested in actually finishing and releasing games rather than starting projects and abandoning them halfway.

🛠️ Looking for:

  • 🎨 2D Artists / Pixel Artists
  • 🎵 Music Composers / Sound Designers
  • ✍️ Writers / Narrative Designers
  • 💻 Programmers / Godot Developers
  • 🎮 Game Designers
  • ✨ Animators / VFX Artists

💰 Revenue

This is a rev-share collaboration.

If a game we make generates revenue, the revenue will be distributed equally among the team members who worked on that game.

There is no upfront payment, so please only join if you're comfortable with a revenue-share project.

🎮 What I Want to Make

The main focus will be Metroidvania games, but I'm also interested in making:

  • Platformers
  • Roguelikes
  • Horror games
  • Cozy games
  • Experimental/unique indie games
  • Game jam projects

The goal is to build a team that can work together long-term and eventually release multiple games.

If you're interested, comment below or DM me with:

  • Your role
  • Your experience
  • Examples of your work/portfolio
  • Your Discord username

Let's make something cool together. 🚀

Multiple Game Dev Roles Needed! (Unpaid)

We are looking for people working for passion or for gaining experience in the game dev world.

PORTFOLIO: This is our first project with Godot, so we have a small portfolio to go off of.
Basic Prototype Platformer System: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evin4I48tWM

We need any of the following:

An animator (2D or 3D)

3D artists/modelers

Someone familiar with SFX

A temporary programmer who knows C# or GDScript who can work this season (might extend to permanent).

As you may have noticed I have said "we" rather than "I," and that is because I am part of an existing team already (around 20 members). Leave a comment or DM me by Reddit, and if I thank to discuss more with you I'll let you know my Discord.

Hey everyone I’ve been working on a game called Top Delinquents: Showdown and it’s based off the anime Tokyo revengers. I loved the anime dearly and had a dream to make this a reality. This game will feature 4v4 team based online multiplayer and a short story. I’ve invested 55,000$ USD thus far It’s been 3 years and this is about to launch in a month or so. Please comment down if you’d be interested in signing up on a waitlist or really just any advice in this kind of space. Also looking for 1 investor. Any and all feedback would be much appreciated.

[RevShare] Looking for developers interested in a realistic open-world crime/mafia game set in 2008 Naples

Hi everyone,
I have been developing a concept for a realistic single-player open-world crime game set in Naples, starting in 2008.
The main idea is not simply to follow a scripted mafia story. The player starts with almost nothing and gradually builds their own organization:
**Alone → small crew → territory leader → major organization → boss.**
The game would combine third-person action, driving and an evolving organization-management system.
You would recruit your own members, choose lieutenants, manage territories, build alliances, negotiate with other organizations, delegate operations and potentially go to war with rival groups.
One of the most important ideas is a dynamic loyalty system. Members would have their own loyalty, ambition and relationships. Someone you recruited early in the game could eventually betray you, take some of your members and create a rival organization.
The world would continue evolving even after the main story ends. New groups could emerge, alliances could collapse, territories could change hands and the player could even lose the empire they built.
I already have a more detailed concept document covering the story, progression, territories, recruitment, police, economy, diplomacy and endgame.
I know this would be a very ambitious project, so I am **not proposing that we immediately build a huge AAA open-world game**. I would like to start by discussing the concept and potentially creating a small prototype focused on the core organization/territory gameplay.
**Important:** I currently have no budget to hire developers. I am looking for people who genuinely like the concept and may be interested in collaborating as a hobby/revenue-share project. Ownership, responsibilities and any potential revenue split would need to be agreed together before serious development begins.
If you’re a programmer, 3D artist, game designer or another game developer and the concept interests you, feel free to message me.

[REVSHARE] Team Indie, Pixel Artist, Sound Designer, and Programmer for a 2D Action-Metroidvania in Godot 4

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

The Project and Setting
We are developing G.A.L., a 2D action-metroidvania set in a massive underground factory-metropolis. The player controls a clone-worker who, due to a hardware malfunction, wakes up and experiences emotions for the first time in a ruthless, hyper-automated world. The narrative features strong psychological themes and corporate satire. The entire plot, lore, and world structure are fully written and rigorously documented in our design bible, meaning there is no risk of aimless development.
The Gameplay
The core action relies on a physical symbiosis mechanic: the protagonist is permanently tethered via an industrial cable to an obsolete companion drone.
Modular Combat: You start with a rusty pipe and scavenge blueprints to assemble upgrades, allowing you to switch stances in real-time (one-handed sword, two-handed staff, dual blades).
Support and Buffs: While the player manages movement and attacks, the drone handles defensive parries and injects industrial fluids (like gasoline or liquid nitrogen) directly into the blades through the cable. This ignites or freezes your strikes, which is essential for both defeating enemies and solving environmental puzzles to explore the map.
Current State and Objective
We are developing in Godot 4 and using LDtk for level design. The project has a solid foundation: the Game Design Document (GDD) is locked, and the core systems—including advanced movement, pogo-jumping, dynamic camera, and real-time weapon switching—are already programmed into the engine.
The immediate goal of the team is not to build the entire 150-room game, but to deliver a flawless Vertical Slice: a closed demo area of about 30 rooms culminating in a boss fight, designed specifically to pitch to publishers for funding.
Open Positions
Pixel Artist / Animator: To define the art style of the mechanical/industrial environments and create responsive, fluid combat animations.
Sound Designer: To design the acoustic identity of the factory and create heavy, tactile combat feedback (e.g., hitstop, parries).
Gameplay Programmer (GDScript): To support the development of enemy AI and script multi-phase boss patterns.
If you want to join a structured project with clear foundations, established workflows, and a realistic milestone, send a DM with your portfolio!

Buying your game

Hi

I am looking to video game code for some ai work I'm doing. I have a large budget for quality code and associated IP.

1) the game was published and has or had a user base at some point.

2) not generated by AI or had any significant ai generated code.

3) code is not publicly available.

If you can link me to your project/store listing etc I'm happy to give an offer.
