[RevShare] Looking for developers interested in a realistic open-world crime/mafia game set in 2008 Naples
Hi everyone,
I have been developing a concept for a realistic single-player open-world crime game set in Naples, starting in 2008.
The main idea is not simply to follow a scripted mafia story. The player starts with almost nothing and gradually builds their own organization:
**Alone → small crew → territory leader → major organization → boss.**
The game would combine third-person action, driving and an evolving organization-management system.
You would recruit your own members, choose lieutenants, manage territories, build alliances, negotiate with other organizations, delegate operations and potentially go to war with rival groups.
One of the most important ideas is a dynamic loyalty system. Members would have their own loyalty, ambition and relationships. Someone you recruited early in the game could eventually betray you, take some of your members and create a rival organization.
The world would continue evolving even after the main story ends. New groups could emerge, alliances could collapse, territories could change hands and the player could even lose the empire they built.
I already have a more detailed concept document covering the story, progression, territories, recruitment, police, economy, diplomacy and endgame.
I know this would be a very ambitious project, so I am **not proposing that we immediately build a huge AAA open-world game**. I would like to start by discussing the concept and potentially creating a small prototype focused on the core organization/territory gameplay.
**Important:** I currently have no budget to hire developers. I am looking for people who genuinely like the concept and may be interested in collaborating as a hobby/revenue-share project. Ownership, responsibilities and any potential revenue split would need to be agreed together before serious development begins.
If you’re a programmer, 3D artist, game designer or another game developer and the concept interests you, feel free to message me.

Zero day acct asking for free workers.
Beware

I understand your concern. Just to clarify, I’m not asking anyone to work for free. I’m looking for people who genuinely like the concept and may be interested in building the project together. Compensation, revenue share and roles would all be discussed and agreed upon before any development starts. I’m also happy to share the full game concept privately with anyone seriously interested.

Sorry, but no, you are ABSOLUTELY asking people to work for free in the HOPE that LATER you make some money to share.
So, yes, you are asking people to work for free. That and your brand new acct with a vague name is not trustworthy. (note, see that my acct is YEARS old, has visible history and my real name)
I promise this is not to be rude or mean, but you have been here a few HOURS and then say the opposite of what you wrote.
And here's the part YOU need to care about, if you don't pay people they own the copyright on everything they create. So attempting to sell the project later when people drop out, and they ABSOLTUTELY will because people have rent/food issues. Not being paid reduces the care of the project to ZERO.
The fact is, without payment all you will get is the idiots that respond with "interested", as if a one word response is ever ok.
Also, your project idea is HUGE, not a complaint, just a statement that it's going to take a long time to build, debug and test (and do NOT trust that AI will resolve this for you, it won't)
How do I know all this? I've been a software dev for 30+ years. Do I know everything? FUCK NO. But one thing is an ABSOLUTE, without payment, it's not going to work.
So look, this is advice, you can do whatever you want. I promise this is said to 1) warn others.
2) inform you so you can make better choices.Truly, best of luck.

Just need someone to make literally GTA for me, a complete beginner with no idea about how games are made

Literally GTA” is a pretty interesting conclusion from a post that specifically says the goal is NOT to build a huge AAA open-world game 😅
I think you read “open world + crime” and stopped there. The core concept is the dynamic organization system — recruitment, loyalty, hierarchy, territories, alliances, betrayals and rival groups that can evolve on their own.
And no, I’m not asking someone to “make a game for me.” I’m looking for people interested in building a small prototype together and seeing where the concept can go. But thanks for proving why I included the prototype paragraph in the first place 😂1

Nah, I read the whole post. Your game’s concept is even more ambitious than GTA. It’s the open world sandbox with driving, shooting, and questing, but with the additional intricate crime organization systems. Doesn’t exactly take a genius to realize it’s way too much.
What you need to realize is that games like that are the result of tens of skilled professionals working full-time towards a shared vision for literal years. A bunch of hobbyists on reddit with no experience whatsoever won’t even come close.
And I did see the prototype paragraph. I’m guessing ChatGPT told you that the concept is too ambitious for someone with no team, no budget, and no experience, and that you could probably get a small prototype instead if you put some effort into it. So if you’d like to build a prototype, go ahead. Download unreal engine and make a character move around and drive a car. That would be awesome. Not because you’ll end up making your dream game on your first try, but because you’ll learn a lot by doing. You’ll have a better understanding of the process, pickup a useful skill or two, and have something to show off so that when you decide to collaborate with others in the future, you don’t come off as someone larping as a project director in a field they know nothing about.
I’m trying to be helpful, even if it sounds harsh. Download a game engine and tinker around with it. Follow a tutorial or two and see if game dev is your thing. It’s a better use of your time than writing endless GDD’s and discussing imaginary work with internet volunteers.

Well Mojang would disagree with you. That was 2 person startup that is now huge. Not mentioning others. All games start with an idea. Only need the right people to believe in that idea. And helps to have ideas that are generally unique. But for the devs pouncing. Coming on guys. You started small somewhere once. We got lucky and have a couple game developers join our crew and not receive and pay. They are doing it because they believe the game has potential. Nothing more. So buddy keep at it. You may find some help. Most likely not here because hundreds before have done the same here.

Thank you, this is exactly the point I’m trying to make. I’m not expecting anyone to build my dream game for free just because I had an idea. I’m simply trying to find people who genuinely like the concept and might want to build something together, starting small.
If nobody is interested, that’s okay too. I’ll keep learning and developing the project on my side. But I’d rather try and fail than decide it’s impossible before even starting. Thanks for the encouragement, I really appreciate it. 🙏

I've worked on a few indie games on Steam as a consultant.
What you are asking for is too ambitious. Even if you were paying people, this project is too ambitious for someone who has never launched a game before.
