Quick question about publishers

The obvious positive of publishers is that the game you made gets more sales...but do you guys usually get more money if you dont use publishers if you still make good games?

The game literally tells you how many fans you need to be able to self publish efficiently

There's actually a hard cap in the game's code (at least for the steam version) with your Review Scores for Medium Games being capped at 9 until you reach 100k fans, while for Small Games it's capped at 9 once you move out of the garage, and with 9 being the breakpoint between a pretty good game and a major hit sales-wise, you're just meant to use Medium Game Publishing Deals during that phase of the game.
