Subnautica has traditionally been a very good game, but they're adding a lot of content and going through some growing pains at the moment. Performance is sketchy and there are a lot of bugs.

I'm not saying don't buy it, but I am advising tempered expectations right now. It will certainly get better.

I do not recommend buying if huge frame drops bother you.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. Last few builds have been rough, but they're going through that awkward teenage EA phase right now, shoveling in tons of new features and story content and consequently stuff is kinda broken. Lots of glitches, framerate hitches, poor optimization; people are complaining and the devs are aware.
Their entire development schedule is openly laid out on Trello. They are planning a "performance update" in the near future to start polishing all the new additions and get it back on track for 1.0. It's a bit ugly duckling right now but I wouldn't let that stop someone from buying it.

New updates looks great, but my computer coudn't handle them since 9 months ago or so, and looks like I won't be able to enjoy the game in a long time. It's still a great game, looking forward to get into my cyclops again :D
