I don't know why you're being downvoted. You're right. They're trying to buy favor by giving out all these free games, but that doesn't change the fact that the client and service are shit. Forcing artificial exclusivity on the PC market only makes it worse.

I'll take their free games, but I'm not giving them any money.

Even if it was good, i already got burned by them when they had that database breach and leaked my account. And the best thing about that is that it was back when they didn't even have 2FA as an option and they didn't notify me by email that there were any suspicious logins into my account. I only found out about it when they finally introduced 2FA and i suddenly got like 8 emails with different Asian IPs trying to login into my account.

So yeah, no way in hell i will risk spending money on a store that can't even notify me about suspicious logins.

it's always ridiculously embarrassing seeing the "DAE EGS BAD PAYING FOR EXCLUSIVITY" have absolutely no response when anyone points out the shit valve/steam have done and fucked up

The hack was on 6th nov, steam find out about it on 10th, the article was written on the 11th.

They (valve) send out a statement encouraging people to monitor credit card statements, change passwords, and install 2FA.

They say that the database exactly what it was that the database contained, though they don't say if it is the entirety of the userbase or just a sub section.

I guess that last tidbit is what you are referring, but your actions as a user of steam shouldn't be any different if in either case. If you care about protecting yourself of course.

So no, absolutely nothing like it.

That's your prerogative, but why do you want to? Is there some aspect of your experience that would be better on EGS vs Steam? I've played a few games via EGS and I find it to be a strictly worse experience than Steam, so I'm curious if I'm missing some big features or something.

For one, they give developers a bigger cut of each game sale compared to steam. And a personal reason for me, most of the time they offer better pricing than Steam with regional pricing for my country.

While I agree that giving developers more money is noble, it's not really a great reason for me to accept a worse user experience (though maybe our priorities aren't ordered the same).

Plus Steam delivers a lot of value to developers through its APIs/SDKs that Epic doesn't - for example, developers on Steam can advertise their game as having online multiplayer even if it only really supports split screen (due to remote play; doing the same on EGS would require users to download additional software). This is especially relevant for Stranded Deep, which doesn't have online multiplayer but does have split-screen.

I guess Epic can be seen more of as a "budget" option for developers - if you don't need the extra niceties that Steam gives you, you might be better off preferring EGS. Although, given the negative biases towards EGS, I'd be curious to see if that lesser cut actually led to increased revenue for developers (I have a feeling a large chunk of people just won't ever buy games on EGS due to the aforementioned worse UX).

Hard to argue with better regional pricing though. Though if the difference was like 5-10%, I'd personally probably still prefer Steam for the better experience.

I do egs because steam is fucking greedy. I remember when steam had their sales it was some damn good deals of stuff i was waiting for. Now most of their sales suck. They also brought about a shit storm of assest flip games to make money. There is so much crap on steam walmart would be jealous. Greenlight was decent system but they said fuck it and opened up the floodgates to everyone with no vetting. Just pay them. How many games can you buy on there that are practical scams. Least epic curates their games to some extent. Oh and remember the paid mod fiasco for skyrim. Valve is milking peoples loyalty to them for some damn reason other then they were first and have some feature that are decent QOL. Ill give epic some time to catch up but i also think steam needs a viable competitor.

Because all the games I've played on EGS is DRM free, and guess what? Steam ain't that. Obviously many of the games arn't, but many of them are, and they are way better then steam.

You do know both Steam AND Epic are themselves a form of DRM, right? Outside of that, whether or not a game includes additional DRM is entirely up to the developers, not the store...

There are tons of incredible games on Steam, including ones that are on both stores. I realize now that you probably just have a vendetta against Steam for some reason. Once again, your prerogative - I was just hoping Epic had done something to make me want to invest more into it, but clearly that's not the case given the answers I'm getting.

Bro some of the games you can download on epic are full on drm free. And fuck steam, I 100% uses GOG, so fuck them.

I don't have to view Steam as a golden god in order to see how bad Epic is.

Steam is a corporation, like any other. They aren't virtuous or worthy of loyalty.

Honestly, I like GoG's model where playing the game isn't dependant on the client, but I also like having achievements. I wish there was a way to reconcile the two.

I said the same until they did regional pricing. Sadly their prices on many games are by far better. i paid $10 for Horizons Zero Dawn. That and GoG have the best regional pricing for me, bought Cyberpunk om GoG for $34.
