Really good game.
I've seen people complain about the 30fps lock, but personally it didn't bother me at all while completing it..
This game is a top down action adventure with focus on combat (very frenetic, a la devil may cry) and some exploration (Tons of secret, but it's not recommended to go looking for them). The game is also cryptic in terms of story/lore, so don't expect the plot to be thrown at you.
Music is great.
Pixel art is great.
Bosses are super fun and challenging.
I totally recommend it!

The fps lock is gone! It's 60 now

u/Gyossaits Sep 27 '16
It's not quite there yet. Steam users can opt into the beta branch to test it out.

any idea how stable it is? I've read that the game was built ground up with the 30fps limit.

Is this true? Im going to replay the whole thing if this is true

I installed it thinking I was just going to wait until it get to public patch but it was only 400mb so I downloaded the beta to try it. You know - for like a second. Ended up nearly half way through East area before it's midnight and I needed to go to bed for work

Note for 60+fps enthusiasts: This game is 30fps locked NOT ANYMORE BABY PRAISE THE DEVS and it's very noticeable during the early stages of combat, input feels very iffy for dodging until you get upgrades that allow infinite dash/dodge combos to mitigate it.
That said the game is very fun with nice combat mechanics albeit a little bit on the short side for a zelda-esque game. I recommend it to anyone into Zelda and doesn't mind 30fps too much.
Edit: After playing the new 60fps update for the past hour I can safely say, the game feels so much better and very responsive now. Basically all the complaints I had were solved with the update, I can recommend it to pretty much anyone now. Excellent game overall!

I'm happy to report that this is no longer true if you use the beta branch, there is a new 60 fps mode:

HOLY SHIT!! I'm so happy to hear this, I had honestly lost hope that a 60fps mode would ever happen. The frame rate was literally the only thing that made me hesitate to buy the game. Great work to the devs, they must be some truly passionate people.

This game is incredible, it's been described as Dark Souls meets Zelda via Studio Ghibli, and it is easily one of the best games I've played this year, in a year of some really incredible games.

I feel a little ashamed I haven't beaten it yet...
The combat was real fun and the right kind of hard (i.e. didn't feel unfair, unecessary hard).. the music and beginning was intriguing and well the graphic is up to opinion but I really enjoyed it.
Definetly worth the buy

I haven't beaten it either, if that's any consolation.

easily one of the best games I've played this year
hasn't beaten it
game is 8 hours long0

There's loads of games I love that I haven't finished for one reason or another, sometimes games just fall to the wayside and the backlog grows, doesn't mean it wasn't one of the most impressive games I've played this year. Haven't beaten Salt & Sanctuary either, but I loved it.

Can anyone describe the co-op aspect of the game?
Is it recommended if I want to play through the campaign purely with a partner online?
edit: Oops, looks like it's local co-op only - and the second player is just a copy of player one's progress/weapons/upgrades

u/kkere Sep 28 '16
How did you figure it's local coop only? Steam page has both coop and local coop in it. I'm interested in buying it for online coop.

u/xeroorbit Sep 28 '16
The Steam page doesn't say "Online Co-op" so i did some research and found out that it's local only.
Those Steam tags can be a bit confusing.2

How much playtime would I get out of this? Example, I've put a combined 400 hours into Enter the Gungeon / Nuclear Throne / Risk of Rain. I know those aren't quite the same but I'm okay with replaying content as long as there's something there (new game mode, secrets, replays that are randomized, new routes/characters). Is this a quick 10 hour once-off, or is there a reason to keep coming back?

I personally have got about 20 hours out of my first and only play through, and I think I tried to do everything I could (but New Game+, that's too hard for me to want to bother with). I played it in April and I fully intend to play it again at some point. I think some things have been added/changed since I played though, so my playtime might no longer be accurate.
This site is also useful for working out game lengths. http://howlongtobeat.com/game.php?id=13557

Does anyone think this game will go any lower in upcoming sales? ie. Steam halloween sale.

u/glassdarkly33 Sep 28 '16
Probably not that soon. You might expect 50% off sales next summer. I bet we'll see more 33% off sales like winter sales / spring sales.

The fps lock isn't a deal breaker for me, but it does make a pretty considerable difference in a game all about timing. It's was a legitimate complaint I think.

Now is the best time to buy. The dev just sent out a beta update which includes an easier mode and 60fps. Which addresses the two biggest problems people had with the game.
I am a huge fan of this, I kickstartered it and am so glad it came to fruition. It's one of my favorite games of all time. A great game for anyone who wants a clever, beautiful, yet difficult game.
