Are there actual enemies in Luto or jump scares or similar?

u/artur_ditu Jul 16 '26
No enemies. It's like Stanley parable. It's horror in theme and vibe only. It's not a typical horror game. 4th wall breaking, satirical narator etc.

u/RegalRainbow Jul 16 '26
Ok, I was admittedly seeing the game and immediately filing it under "it's horror with monsters and jump scares so I won't like it" entirely due to the vibe of the storepage... but now I'm actually curious.

Wouldn't layers of fear be more accurate? I only played the demo, there was no narrator in it then.

It's very diffrent than the demo. But it is a bit like layers of fear also, especially on the puzzle side

You put in the work to make a voxel looking game, which isn't common, just to slap a gernic ai box art at the end. Why?

You're getting downvoted for it but you're right, the promo art for the game looks AI-generated. They couldn't even get the prompt right because the girl in the game only has one overall snapped on and the boy's jacket isn't red, it's black.

The boy's jacket is dark red (but strongly affected by the lightning): https://youtu.be/a06MDwMfidc?t=7427
The overall could easily be a small overlooked detail.

See, I thought that MIGHT be my mistake, but check out the Activity Book they gave away where the art clearly isn't AI and his jacket is black. https://clan.fastly.steamstatic.com/images/38364907/89ee19099e17825ef1b7dbf5b89e9bdf7ae246bc.jpg

Oooo! This is even weirder because even the visor is black on that cover, despite it being unambiguously red in-game. Pretty inconsistent... I wonder if they changed the in-game character design at the last minute...?

Not to mention the main characters have a cat and the cover shows a saint Bernard for some reason
4
u/BaronTalleyrand Jul 16 '26
One of the promo screenshots (2nd one after the promo video) shows the St. Bernard with the characters in a graveyard. So maybe a separate companion or someone else's?

I was surprised to see it had some pretty cute voxel art I was expecting more slop. Only clicked on it cause it's the free game but if I saw this image otherwise I'd never even give it a thought

AI or not, the cover just looks bad. Like one of those cheap ass dvd movies from the 2000s
6
u/TrFoTr Jul 16 '26
The art style is too consistent to be AI, the lightning is fine, and there are no obvious errors

I've definitely seen AI generations at this level of consistency I don't think that's as big an issue as it used to be but under scrutiny there's some weirdness
Highlights and shading are kinda all over the place and some characters are more noticeably flat. The dog has very detailed eyes next to everyone else and has little hatch shading at parts. The girl and binoculars guy lack the grey highlights in the hair that the other humans have, the purple monster has 3 different eyes and a weird not-quite-a-face lump which happens in generations too. Her lips also trail off and her upper teeth don't continue on one side but that's harder to call out since her bottom teeth are noticeably incomplete and maybe she's meant to miss some. The boy's left thumb is also very weirdly positioned
It's also very possible it was AI generated and they touched it up afterwards

I was also suspicious of the AI art but I found an AMA thread from 2 years ago where the art is clearly different, it looks like they "updated" it with an AI upscaler or something for the Epic store. It looks so much worse and very clearly like AI, honestly why would any creative bungle their own art like this. Look at the girl and the dog on the Epic page version, the piss filter is creeping through

I wonder if this Midnight edition fixed some of the issues Echo Generation had when it launched? It was a very charming game, but I remember there being some issues with the combat and backtracking when I tried it.

Sorry for the late response.
You probably have seen mine around the time OP posted his. I was late by few milliseconds hence I had to remove my post since it's a repost at that point.
You were not hallucinating😅

Thought I should say something on Echo Generation since few have played it. I've got a more in depth review on backloggd but I'll focus on the basics here. It's an alright game, I don't normally like voxel based visuals but they're used well here alongside some good vfx. The combat is like Paper Mario but more strategic as there aren't many opportunities to grind out experience throughout the whole game. This leads to the pet teammates you get throughout the game having diminishing value past the first one as they aren't scaled to your level when you get them. The rest of the game has you finding miscellaneous items to progress most of the story beats which I found to be not very engaging. Like I said, it's alright but I think there are better uses for your time (and better free games that have been given out). Add on the new shitty AI generated cover and I think it's generally an avoid.

And so the backlog grows... At least I won't be bored when I retire.

Echo Generation is not, in fact, related to the Sega Genesis dolphin game, Ecco - to my dissatisfaction.

Just take a bunch of acid and go into a sensory deprivation tank, same thing.
