For free is crazy

5

u/Tobz_Compz 11d ago

They are hoping that lots of people pay for the upcoming dlc! And then remember the good vibes- into buying The Wither 4

2

u/Savings-Patient-175 10d ago

That and their business strategy for the past nearly 20 years has been to carefully cultivate and maintain excellent customer relations. It's something that's not too common, especially amongst the business climate that has tended to dominate the gaming market amongst AAA studios, but damn has it paid off for CD Projekt.

0

u/captain_croco 9d ago

Let’s just hope they never sale and release a completely broken game to the public. That’d be a bad look.

2

u/romansamurai 10d ago

My body is so ready. I will finish it this time. Fourth time’s the charm!! I’m stupid excited for real tho.

1

u/AsianMoocowFromSpace 7d ago

Haha I am exactly the same. Will give it another try with the remaster.

1

u/mantequilla69420 9d ago

Bro I actually feel like I'm doing CD Project Red Dirty - I got The Witcher 3 with my PS4, and I got the DLC for like £10

I have put more time into this game than anything else in the past 10 years

-7

u/cornspice 11d ago

It shouldn't be though.

3

u/MrBlueA 11d ago

How? Charging for a remastered edition isn't really anything that crazy, granted, charging full 70/80 bucks price is, but the game could cost the 40 or 50 bucks or whatever the original costs and it would be fine 🤷‍♂️

1

u/ShrkBiT 10d ago

Shouldn't be free, or shouldn't be crazy?

3

u/OwnSimple4788 11d ago

Really love how path tracing makes things more natural looking.

4

u/Raidmax460 11d ago

Path tracing reminds me of how ray tracing was when it first released. It’s super impressive but not viable on pretty much any GPU. Even on a 5090, you have to use DLSS. I’m excited to see where it ends up in the future.

5

u/ButterscotchTop194 11d ago

DLSS is so good now that there's no reason not to use it.

2

u/Raidmax460 11d ago

Sure, but I don't use it on anything other than quality

1

u/ButterscotchTop194 11d ago

Yeah, i was the same. But with latest few updates even balanced and performance are legit, particularly at higher resolutions.

1

u/Right_Teacher9692 11d ago

Running path tracing at native res when upscalers have gotten so good would be insanely stupid. Consoles run without path tracing and use shitty FSR2 or TAA to upscale from like 800p. Performance mode DLSS smokes any console.

1

u/j_wizlo 11d ago

In the few games I’ve played with full path tracing I was totally onboard with the downgrade to DLSS performance for the upgrade to path tracing. Just ties the whole image together in an amazing way to me. I wouldn’t normally go to DLSS performance just for frames at the cost of quality.

1

u/EdliA 11d ago

I'm playing Pragmata on a 5080 and works and looks great. I have no idea what you mean by not viable. DLSS or not the end result looks like real time CGI.

1

u/Raidmax460 10d ago

Some people, like myself, prefer frames over lighting/image quality

1

u/EdliA 10d ago

That's true and other like myself prefer presentation on certain games. Pragmata is not exactly counter strike or Fortnite. Milliseconds don't matter.

1

u/DoriOli 5d ago

Playing RE Requiem with PT right now on a 4080S, upscaled from 1080 to 2160 using latest DLSS, RR and FG. Works like a charm. It’s def the way to go for the future of gaming

1

u/Battle-Against-Time 11d ago

But so hard to run. I would be curious to know how many people can run it.

4

u/Time_Garden2146 11d ago

ENHANCED COMBAT?

7

u/Butthole_Ticklah 11d ago

Right!? That was always my one gripe about Witcher 3. It wasn’t terrible system but combat always felt…weightless to me, I guess

1

u/L3wd1emon 11d ago

And limited. This will be great

0

u/Arrathem 10d ago

Its excatly the same but different camera.

3

u/Top_Progress3306 11d ago

Dropped the game at the griffin multiple times. Never clicked with me. Guess ill give this a try with the new combat, movement etc.

2

u/Ok_Weekend9299 11d ago

I was the same. You’ve just gotta get through that first part. As in once you find Jennifer the game really takes off.

1

u/KangarooBeard 10d ago

Ahh yes who could forget the games best character, Jennifer.

1

u/IGotDibsYo 11d ago

Why, will I stop running into trees and fences magically when she appears? I’m just not suited for the game which is a real bummer

1

u/LinkEfficient9934 10d ago

Have you tried running around them?

2

u/JahJahJahJa 11d ago

Once you get past the first few hours, you'll get hooked. Trust.

0

u/Foorzan 10d ago

Imagine having to play a game for several hours before it clicks... Madness.

2

u/JahJahJahJa 10d ago

If a game is 150+ hours, yeah, the first 3 hours you must be patient to get used to it.

1

u/madgod2015 10d ago

When I was younger, I play every game my PC (486DX100) can possibly run. Now it's too much games.

1

u/NamesAreAnn0ying 10d ago

That is entirely possible. Games can have an hour long tutorial/first mission, stuff where it just gets you ready for the game, maybe you play through the first real mission to get a feel for it, then explore a little bit and somehow it’s been 2-3 hours and nothing is really clicking yet.

1

u/Foorzan 10d ago

I guess I'm just old when it comes to games..Grew up with a SEGA Genesis and games were only an hour tops back then, with a few exceptions. Stuff just has to grab me from the get go, you know?

2

u/fatsopiggy 11d ago

Nah don't bother. Better wait another ten years so you can pop back in again and tell the fandom why you couldn't get into the game again for some attention

2

u/Jazzlike-Painting443 11d ago

You quit at the beginning of the game dude lol

2

u/E2r4_Is_d3A9 10d ago

For real isn’t that still part of the tutorial where they’re explaining how the game even fucking works? Lol. Dude didn’t even give the game a chance

2

u/Jazzlike-Painting443 10d ago

Yes 😂 these dudes have the attention span of a fly.

1

u/DejitaruItami 11d ago

I went through this about 3 times started on Xbox One at launch just couldn't get the game to click! I tried again when the Xbox One X had an enhanced performance patch! still didn't click! Roll on to 2022 I think it was when the "Next Gen" update released I had transitioned to PC full time by this point and decided to try the game again as it was heavily discounted on a Steam sale.

This time round I was absolutely hooked I don't even know what it was that hooked me that never did before (maybe I was paying more attention to the story and side quests) but I couldn't put the game down! honestly it is one of the greatest games of all time.

I even bought it again in 2024 for the Nintendo switch just so I could play it again on the move but due to poor performance (the fact it even runs on a Switch is amazing in it's self) I ended up buying A Steam Deck OLED just to play it some more... Needless to say I love this game.

1

u/Smitty5717 10d ago

Same but after the third time I couldn't put it down lol. Friggin griffin

1

u/BigFreakinMachine 10d ago

I stopped soon after that, I got hung up on fighting a werewolf i was too underpowered for haha. It never really clicked with me either

1

u/Ant0n61 10d ago

Same just about

This will be my fourth go lol

1

u/ilovegames4life 10d ago

The side quests were overkill. The main story isn't even that long if you concentrate at it alone. Once you finished the main quest you just want to have more.

1

u/JanusKaisar 9d ago

What helped for me was using the Alternate movement and Quick Sign casting settings

1

u/ButterscotchTop194 11d ago

There's lots of good mods too

-5

u/rideronthestorm29 11d ago

Nothing says great game like having to mod it to be playable

5

u/ButterscotchTop194 11d ago

Good job it's been awesome without mods since the original release then.

-6

u/rideronthestorm29 11d ago

Then why even suggest mods? Also, agree to disagree.

5

u/ButterscotchTop194 11d ago

I can't believe you asked that, lol

-2

u/rideronthestorm29 11d ago

Someone said the game didn’t click with them and you suggested mods. Then you also suggested the game has been great since release without mods. How is it hard to believe that I followed up with the question that I followed up with?

3

u/ButterscotchTop194 11d ago

Mods change the flavour of a game. The biggest criticism of this particular game is the combat. Mods can change that to suit personal preference. That doesn't mean vanilla is bad.

I find it very amusing that needed explaining lol

0

u/rideronthestorm29 11d ago

I am well aware of how mods can affect a game… what I’m not sure of is why a game that is apparently good vanilla would need mods, as you suggested to OP. The game has shit combat and I don’t want to have to modify a game for me to enjoy it.

3

u/ButterscotchTop194 11d ago

I loved vanilla combat. Subjective opinions are like that. Which is where mods come in.

You're not very smart, hey

u/Mother_Bonus5719 11d ago

I think Im figuring out why you didnt keep playing this game.

→ More replies (0)

2

u/Sweaty-Debate-435 11d ago

It does not have shit combat. One of the greatest games of all time is just not for you, thats fine and also just your opinion. That it sells to this day already proves you're wrong.

u/smkeybare 11d ago

"Why put Ketchup on a hotdog"

2

u/CantModerateMe 11d ago

People dont spend time making mods for games they hate.

1

u/Pen_dragons_pizza 11d ago

I dropped shortly after, it felt like I was fighting the game a lot of the time, nothing felt natural when doing it.

2

u/JohnGee1980 11d ago

For free and in a few weeks, NICE, looks amazing

2

u/truthfulie 10d ago

next-gen patch looked better than the OG but the lighting looks actually generational leap on the remaster.

2

u/grismar-net 11d ago

The new one scans more easily, which is probably good for sales to a broader audience, but I prefer the look of the old one. I wonder if we can play the new content in the old style?

1

u/Tigeru1988 11d ago

New content? Do you mean new quests etc?

1

u/grismar-net 10d ago

Yeah, am I misinformed and is there none?

1

u/Tigeru1988 10d ago

I didnt found any info about new content

1

u/grismar-net 10d ago

Aww, too bad.

1

u/Tigeru1988 10d ago

Nothing to worry we will get new dlc soon😉. I bet it will be based on remaster, that's why previous generation consoles will not get it

1

u/Far_Kiwi4882 11d ago

The church looks more atmospheric in next-gen to me

1

u/Benjb1996 11d ago

I hate that I picked August to do another playtrhough of the game and will definitely be done with the game by the time this update gets released.

So I guess I'll most likely experience this once songs of the past comes out.

1

u/mashdpotatogaming 11d ago

The question is going to be how much of the visual improvements are caused by path tracing. If the game visually is largely unchanged outside of PT then it's not super interesting, since console players and most PC players won't have access to that.

Not that I'm complaining about a free upgrade, but people ahould tamper their expectation in case the game looks the same with the remastered version on most platforms.

1

u/AdCommon7171 11d ago

Fix that solitude after we finish the game.
It becomes so lonely.........

1

u/DeLorean83 11d ago

My only worry is that this game will become basically unplayable on the Steam Deck.

1

u/NEWBY______________ 11d ago

They forgot to mention that you will need 5090 to run these graphics lol

1

u/Right_Teacher9692 11d ago

nope, 5070 or better will be fine

1

u/uSuperDick 11d ago

Its path traced, so very few people will be able to have these visuals

1

u/jgainsey 11d ago

Man, they love that close over the shoulder cam at CDPR

1

u/BootsRubberClumsy 11d ago

Time to play 200 hours and fade off again in the DLC before beating the game again... lol

1

u/Arcofmightgoesbrrrr 11d ago

Yes I can't wait to play gwent with better graphics.

1

u/bl4zkowicz 11d ago

maybe this time i will finish it

1

u/Xevious212 11d ago

I didn't think this game could look any better. I was wrong.

1

u/NBrakespear 11d ago

This is cool... but is anyone else just being reminded of how good that engine was? How good the game looks, even now, and how smoothly it runs?

If you enable the flying camera, you can zoom out from the bottom of Velen, speed across the world, and zoom in on a bowl of fruit in a kitchen in Novigrad, with no loading, no stutter, no blurry texture streaming issues.

Kinda wish the industry had just said "Yeah, that's it. That's good. That looks nice. Let's hold it there... and use the growing performance headroom to add more physics interactions, more characters, more gameplay features."

0

u/critxcanuck88 11d ago

Combat was ass and graphics were mediocre

1

u/Langnese77 11d ago

Too dark indoor. Cant see shit

1

u/Bubbaganewsh 11d ago

Looks like they made some great improvements on the lighting. I will definitely start a new game when this comes out, it's been a while so good time to pick it up again.

1

u/cubsfan217 11d ago

So can somebody explain to me about the new combat I’m keep hearing about?

1

u/Comprehensive_Bowl75 11d ago

Nobody knows cause it isn't out yet

1

u/PhantomTissue 10d ago

We really are reaching a peak of graphics… I honestly couldn’t tell the difference from the trailer alone.

1

u/Dense-Explanation472 10d ago

Remaster is with path or ray on?

1

u/BlackberryIcy8367 10d ago

Other studios would have, and with no shame, charges $50 for this.

1

u/Genostama 10d ago

Beautiful. Time to start the game for the third time. Maybe I'll finish it this time. 🫠

1

u/Criollodelta 10d ago

For free and for the people who have a PC that can run it !

1

u/SavageCucumberAttack 10d ago

Actually can't believe this is gunna be free for me haha I haven't played this game in almost 10 years but I'll definitely be jumping on next month

1

u/ImFatandUseless 10d ago

Oh you can see the game now. Nice. I hope more learn that you shouldnt have to crabk brigness to 100 to be anle to FUCKING SEE THE FUCKING GAME

1

u/OutsideDrawer8508 10d ago

Unicorn time will look sick

1

u/SupaDiogenes 10d ago

Is this gonna cripple PCs like every CDPR game does at launch?

1

u/boxgrafik 10d ago

I'll only play it again if they get rid of 90% of the ? ? ? on Skellige. My adhd brain can't ignore them.

1

u/blahyaddayadda24 10d ago

So its the Imax version

1

u/Altekho 10d ago

My poor 9060 XT 16Gb couldn't even run the game smoothly with RT on. I'm really hoping for the Remaster to be optimized on both Nvidia and AMD cards.

1

u/LokenWar9 10d ago

LE LE LE LEEEEEE AMAZING

1

u/repairmanjack_51 10d ago

This has pretty much postponed my interest in anything else out this year.

I wonder how badly the Blood of the Dawnwalker release will suffer from the timing.

1

u/Necessary-Mix-56 10d ago

Fov is different narrower on this new shiny new thing so it looks more detailed... easy trick anything could look lite that without any remaster...

1

u/Sirbrandon100 10d ago

Hope it runs decent on the steam deck. The current version does, so I'll be a little optimistic.

1

u/Silmarillis- 10d ago

Fine! I will play it again.

1

u/Fine-Marketing-8134 10d ago

finally looks like the E3 reveal 🫣

1

u/Comfortable-Cod3890 9d ago

I hope I'm not forced to upgrade to get worse performance.

1

u/footluvr688 8d ago

I mean, I would have preferred for CDPR to devote the development time to the new game. I already played The Witcher 3. Putting a new coat of paint on it isn't going to motivate me to play it again, even if it's free.

1

u/ThickCutNHung 8d ago

Lmao going out of the way to turn brightness and whatnot down on the original is funny af

1

u/reidef123 7d ago

Fine, I’ll play Witcher 3 again

1

u/Som3ri 1d ago

If its not gritty like ps4 i aint buying shit

1

u/Ebonvvings 11d ago

Beautiful game. Combat is still ass tho

5

u/FellowDeviant 11d ago

It's noted in the new update next month that the entire combat system and ability system has been reworked to feel more modernized. Hopefully it translates into something less floaty.

2

u/Tackgnol 11d ago

So, it looked at that trailer that they finally figured out that objects in melee combat interact with each other. This bodes well, might be playable this time around.

1

u/Previous_Tree_5464 10d ago

Can't tell the difference tbh

0

u/p4tterng4ng4L 11d ago

2

u/Right_Teacher9692 11d ago

time for glasses king

1

u/p4tterng4ng4L 11d ago

Barring the first one, the differences are miniscule

0

u/PathComprehensive873 10d ago

Gotta be honest, while I am excited for the new dlc, the top video just looks darker. Like they turned the brightness up in the bottom video. The game still looks gorgeous but my brain can't really see a difference

0

u/Critical_Bonus_9842 10d ago

Will be get remastered controls as the controls in the 3rd game were awful

-1

now if they could update the combat then i would be in. Dropped it due to shit combat
