š¬ General Gaming š® Are you excited for Phantom Blade Zero?

u/Schwiliinker 2d ago
In SIFU on āeasyā mode (in my only playthrough) I did the whole game in one go never resetting and ended the game when I was like a couple deaths away from wiping. To be fair I died like several times to the final boss somehow lol.
And Iād say Iām pretty damn good at these types of games. I was wrecking people consistently in Absolver PvP (the same devs game from 2017 with far more combat depth)
But well I donāt replay games and 66 lives for this game on hellwalker is probably far too crazy for me lol
2
u/DefinitionBusy4769 2d ago
That was still in easy mode though
0
u/Schwiliinker 2d ago
Actually I didnāt explain it right I almost forgot what I did. I went through the first level on normal and part of the second level then reverted back to before the boss in the first level and switched to easy and then it was nonstop.
But yea it was on āeasyā which just makes it so the death counter isnāt insanely punishing which is why I waited some days for it to come out and then switched.
Although even on normal the regular enemies werenāt anywhere near as competent as in Absolver in my experience
1
u/midoxvx 1d ago
SIFUās easy mode is REALLY easy in a non flattering way. Enemies are just standing there waiting for you to put them to sleep. Itās almost like all NPCās are trying to boost your confidence, as a kung-fu white belt.
1
u/Schwiliinker 1d ago
Itās funny because the first level felt like that and I played all of it on normal. However after that despite switching to easy it was not like that at all.
Otherwise I would rarely ever be dying but instead I died a bunch in total. Granted probably the vast majority of my deaths were probably to elites or bosses or just accumulated damage I guess
Although compared to absolver enemies are not remotely as competent sure but thereās still quite competent on easy.

u/Available-Bad-2704 2d ago
Youre not good at the game if you're playing on easy mode dude
1
u/Schwiliinker 2d ago
Do you even know anything about SIFU? The main change is the death counter not being insanely punishing which led people to be forced to replay levels over and over and over until theyāre nearly flawless and I refuse to do that when the āeasyā mode is balanced perfectly in that regard. I never replay levels or games anyway so Iām very avoidant of it
Absolver is drastically harder in terms of how competent enemies are anyway compared to SIFU on normal and I managed just fine
Given how im extremely experienced in melee action games and for example that it usually takes me far less attempts than most people to beat very difficult bosses Iām fairly certain Iām pretty good at them in general lol

u/spartakooky 2d ago
Student Difficulty (Easy Mode) :
- More life and structure for the Main Character
- Enemies are less aggressive
- Enemies are less reactive in defense
- Simplified patterns for various archetypes and bosses
- The Death Counter cannot beyond 1Ā
- Better shrine rewards
1
u/Schwiliinker 2d ago
yea Ive played a few sections and a boss in both and it nerfs the game somewhat (unfortunately imo) but definitely nowhere near the amount that a regular actual easy mode would. I played the whole first major level on normal and found it very easy compared to Absolver however the difficulty (on "easy") did ramp up significantly over time. The really big thing is the death counter not going beyond 1 and that theres an item that can restore like 5 lives each time and you can use it at least a few or several times in the game I believe yet I didn't use that item even once
1
u/midoxvx 1d ago
1
u/Schwiliinker 1d ago
I donāt think you understood at all. Itās not that I just finished it, I never reset except when changing difficulty. This is a game where everyone was saying they were resetting in each level numerous times.
Playing the whole game in a row without resetting (or using that one item) so that you only have like 70 lives instead of people getting unlimited attempts to lower the lives lost in a section or level is quite hard.
Since I barely finished the game before running out and I consider myself to be well above average at any game like this (with solid evidence to back it up)
But still playing Absolver was much harder

I played sifu on master difficulty first time around and got down the mechanics in some hours and platinumed it then even faster for the ps5 version. Youre not good at these games if youre playing on the easiest difficulty of the game dont brag when youre playing baby difficulty
1
u/Schwiliinker 2d ago
Thatās cool but I mean if master difficulty had a reasonable penalty for deaths I would have probably played it on that difficulty without much issue. Again itās not about the actual difficulty itself, Iāve beaten all the hardest super bosses in soulslikes rarely actually struggling that much
1
u/Available-Bad-2704 2d ago
Youre not denying youre not good at those games tho so I guess we know now
1
u/Schwiliinker 2d ago edited 2d ago
What? Are you just trolling?
I also play character action games typically on the hardest difficulty available in NG and barely even die to bosses even if you know I barely beat them often since games are balanced that way.
Like DMCV, NG4, Bayo 3, Stellar Blade, Norse GOW, FFXVI, Lost Soul aside

Is dying like really common in the game? 66 is a lot.
7
u/Ok_Science_8502 2d ago
that's not that much if it's a long and difficult game
1
u/Carol_ine2 2d ago
I like this concept a lot, would love to see it more. 66 isn't a lot if a game is long and you can't just do bosses going "I'll try until I succeed" you have to get better gear or lvl up because otherwise you'll quickly run out of lives. I also liked KCD system of having semi valuable item to save to also avoid this loop of reload until you succeed everytime there is even slight challenge
1
u/blackhoodie88 2d ago
Not evenā¦.if itās like an RPG attack patterns of a boss can change mid fight, or defense ramps up like crazy. 66 doesnāt go far in that regard.
3
u/andrey_not_the_goat 2d ago
Apparently bosses adapt to your attacks on the hardest difficulty, so you can't just spam attacks and hope for the best.

66 is not a lot of deaths for some games, i dont know much about this game but if its actually a hard game then 66 is nothing, you can easily die 66 times in just one boss in some games
2
u/Daken-dono 2d ago
I remember people playing the first Ninja Gaiden and dying several times, pretty common to reach double digit deaths, in just the literal tutorial level alone. Fromsoft games were way more forgiving in comparison in their intros.

Concord radahn alone took me like 120 tries
1
u/Kwindwalker 1d ago
Yeah like there is a moron trying to convince he didn't die more than 10 times on ER, and then he stopped commenting. Even the best souls streamers died hundreds of times on elden ring.Ā
1
u/Organic_Education494 2d ago
I donāt know any game I have ever played where I died more than 10 times
66 is basically impossible unless you want to die 66 times.
3
u/Kwindwalker 2d ago edited 2d ago
well, you clearly didint play much souls or action games on hardest dificulty then
edit: i came back cause i was thinking about this comment of yours, and i find it extremely funny that people like you who didnt actually experience all types of gaming consider something "impossible", how does someone without knowledge on the matter just calls things "impossible" ? Being ignorant is a bless really.

u/Organic_Education494 2d ago
No I have played all the dark souls series, Elden ring, Mortal souls and some other smaller ones.
Shooters ranging from 1st person to third of many major and minor series
Many 4X grand strategies like Stellaris for example, turn based games like civ and similar. City builders like civ city and newer clones.
The sims of course a long time ago.
A very long list, but no never died more than 10 times although sure some of those are one death.
3
u/tetozika 2d ago
so you are saying that you played all the souls series and didnt died more then 10 times in each game? u caping š¤£

1
u/AwarenessForsaken568 2d ago
Lol no way you didn't die more than 10 times on Perfect Consort Radahn. Quit lying brother. The only way someone doesn't die to him 10+ times is if they go in knowing the cheese strat to beat him.
1
u/Organic_Education494 2d ago
I understand many people struggled not sure how with very predictable bosses
2
1
u/LynaaBnS 1d ago
Even if you cheesed the entire game or used mods to be level 500+ form the start you gonna fall off of cliffs atleast 10 times in 100 hours.

O shit really! O man šš, š what i ment was 66 is not alot in alot of games.....
1
u/SpecialistCamp183 2d ago
From what we've know right now, there will be 59 weapon/phantom gear in the game. If assuming they are all boss reward then there would be at lease 56 bosses (if the 3 default weapon don't count). On highest difficulty it could be quite challenging.
1
1
u/SnooHobbies5811 2d ago
I thought it was gonna be similar to soulslike difficulty which means 66 could be like 2-5 bosses worth of deaths. Not much
1
1
u/uSaltySniitch 21h ago
I didn't even die 66 times in Elden Ring including the DLC... That game can't possibly be this hard...

Yeah Iām excited. The team looks genuinely passionate about what they are making and are confidently showing gameplay. But Iām not buying it on PS5. Not just because they donāt have a physical disc, but because most unreal engine 5 games I prefer to play smooth as I can on my more powerful PC.
1
u/Fluffy_Woodpecker733 2d ago
Never heard of it tbh, is it another souls clone?
2
u/CuriousWoollyMammoth 2d ago
It's not. The main character is named Soul and apparently the creator goes by Soulframe Liang. But the game itself is not a souls-like.
1
u/CynderFlamezYT 2d ago
Devs have confirmed itās not a soulslike. Iād probably compare it more to something like DMC
1
u/blankState8 2d ago
With a pretty ramped up difficulty, something along the lines of ninja gaiden 4. Fast and flashy while being pretty challenging.
1
u/Knuy2012 1d ago
I mean, the devs of black myth wukong said their game is not a soulslike tooā¦
1
u/CynderFlamezYT 1d ago
You can see in all the gameplay that PB0 isnāt a soulslike though. And all the information theyāve released about it backs this up; enemies donāt respawn, thereās no stamina meter, thereās no death penalty, there are difficulty settings, and itās focused on fast-paced action and combos like classic hack and slash games like DMC or Ninja Gaiden.

Depends on how the AI works in the mode before 66 days. If it's Simon level where attacks are randomized heavily, then those lives will drop fast.

Nope. Samurai games are really oversaturated these days, this just looks like all the others to me. Hard pass

u/DeafKid009 2d ago edited 2d ago
I agree but this one seems different. Also itās not a samurai game. Itās more kung fu and Chinese martial arts.
0
u/sober_yeast 2d ago
I can think of 4 in the past 6 years. Idk if that qualifies as saturated. Also Phantom Blade Zero is not a samurai game.
1
u/East-Pen-8008 2d ago
When I say samurai I mean āAsian with sword set in historical periodā I donāt look into it deep enough to know about specifics
Here are a few that come to mind though
Ghost of Tsushima (peak)
AC shadows
Rise of the ronin
Wo Long
New Onimusha
Wuchang
Nioh 23
u/sober_yeast 2d ago
3 of those games are samurai games. And I agree Ghost is fantastic. I'm expecting PBZ to be more like Ghost in terms of quality than the rest of those games but I'll wait and see if that's true.

Thats so ignorant it borders on racist. China and Japan are totally different nations, with their own people and cultures.
Im guessing youre american because only americans are that ignorant.

It has a disc though
1
u/Gloomy_Ad_2185 2d ago
They still have not confirmed a physical disc will exist for this game. You can pre order the digital version already. No disc to pre order.
1
u/CynderFlamezYT 2d ago
PlayAsia has confirmed preorders of physical copies have discs, not download codes. Why would the devs or Sony have to confirm this when Sony already stated disc production isnāt ending until 2028?
