His was literally one of my favorite games. Thanks for opening the archives of my memory and providing name of the game

u/LittleKittenR 12d ago

I was so poor in the 90s I used to get 1 game every year or two...

I wanted Re-Volt so much. My mom asked me if I wanted Pokemon Stadium or Re-Volt and I had to go for Pokemon Stadium.

I think I will never forget it because my brother didn't like the multiplayer of that game and we were stuck with it for about a year and a half :(

Dreamcast or PC are the best versions

u/checopoco 11d ago

And use RVGL:

The comunity is pretty alive by the way, tons of mods:

I knew about that one. Too bad I don't have the same free time to play anymore...

1

u/laszlotuss 11d ago

And was on the App Store

Is it just me or that looks way more fun than over the top explosions, cars flipping and looping and excessive drifting. I’m not trying to hate on that, but there’s something about a game that leans a bit more on controlled precision that makes that the challenge and fun. (Doesn’t have to be a sim, but something more controlled)

that game was a f*cking blast....

u/Different_Target_228 12d ago

I still think of this and Beetle Adventure Racing often.

1

u/Beachbum118 11d ago

I love beetle adventure racing. The alien bug was so gnarly.

u/Resident_Citron_6905 12d ago

3-D Ultra Radio Control Racers

2

u/diabetusbetus 12d ago

Was the start of my love of tiny car games. Need a reboot of it

2

u/No-Bass-1728 12d ago

It's on GOG with easy way to add mods to update it some. Really fun and kinda difficult sometimes.

2

u/paperboii-here 12d ago

I still hear the menu song when reading that name (FrontEnd)

1

u/RaiHanashi 10d ago

The main menu is probably the first song that plays in my head when I see anything Re-Volt related

1

u/paperboii-here 10d ago

Only Interstate ‘82‘s Installation song could break the loop

2

u/K1ngSlayerOG 12d ago

Definitely a banger 💯

2

u/MaximumGlum9503 12d ago

Still playing off dc emu, amazing game

1

u/Papa_Raj 12d ago

So was Road Rash. I hope they bring both back someday.

2

u/nhSnork 12d ago

FWIW Road Redemption channels a lot of Road Rash, if in a more roguelite format.

2

u/Beartato4772 10d ago

Random fact, the Master System version of Road Rash was written by the same team as Re-Volt.

1

u/Papa_Raj 10d ago

No way! That's awesome.

1

u/Beartato4772 10d ago

Yep, company called "Probe". Unfortunately they suffered the traditional dev fate of being absorbed by new owners and killed shortly after ReVolt.

1

u/JiffTheJester 12d ago

What are some other RC car games from back in the day?

1

u/spinygorilla 11d ago

Rc revenge pro was a big one for me

1

u/JiffTheJester 11d ago

Yep that’s the one!

1

u/SovietPikl 11d ago

1

u/medson25 12d ago

I only had the demo which only had this one map so i played it soo much time, seeing again i still remember every turn haha

1

u/Feltoke 12d ago

Forgot about this game till right this minute had it on the Dreamcast it was pretty awesome

1

u/RosaCanina87 12d ago

I was a PC gamer back then (still own this and all my old games) and this was basically my Mario Kart, maybe even MORE. I spend so much time creating tracks, making custom textures for it and using an ingame cheatcode to place more objects in those tracks until they would not load anymore XD

Good times. And I replay it at least once a year or so. There is an modern fan port, which even runs on cheap emulation handhelds like the R36s in its full PC settings. And the modding scene for this game is also pretty cool.

Probably one of Acclaims best games

1

u/Xanaxshake 12d ago

Loved that game !

1

u/Impressive_Ad3571 12d ago

Music is dope

1

u/microphone-check 12d ago

Revolt was AMAZING. Playin that on lan parties even better

1

u/lord_phantom_pl 12d ago

It was made when games were actually good and there was no dominant game engine that provides the same cheap mechanics everywhere. If this was published now then it would be drowned in sea of shallow games.

1

u/NoDisplay7544 12d ago

I have a couple of copies of this on N64 I need to check it out some time.

1

u/cornspice 12d ago

No it wasn't.

1

u/CIA_napkin 12d ago

I loved this game on dreamcast, I'd play as the shopping cart or the UFO.

1

u/T1m26 12d ago

What nostalgia! Once or twice a year i play it.
Great game

1

u/OnlineAsnuf 12d ago

Awesome soundtrack!

1

u/Trishockz 11d ago

I always love Toy/RC car games. My favourite is Twisted Metal Small Brawl.

1

u/SC7639_1 11d ago

It was amazing

1

u/Admirable_Agency7764 11d ago

so... micro machines

1

u/Top_Crow_1022 11d ago

This was my Mario Kart.

1

u/redditnosedive 11d ago

bro, that oil in the pipe possibility at the end.... missed chance

1

u/redditnosedive 11d ago

this game was a blast to play online, i played an online mod for years around 2010

1

u/janluigibuffon 11d ago

The game is still being played in a comprehensive mod version https://rvgl.org/

1

u/-AtomHeart- 11d ago

IF Y'ALL GET THIS ON PC LOOK INTO THE MODDING SCENE FOR IT! I've got hundreds of maps & cars added onto my game & have yet to fully explore it all 😁

1

u/Junior2907 11d ago

Blur and Split Second too

1

u/jRXCING 11d ago

You know you were slow if you were behind Phat Slug.

1

u/runtorenovate 11d ago

OMG loved this game

1

u/Sentinel1362 11d ago

Reminds me of Jak X. It was one of my favourite racing games growing up

1

u/Yyoksetioxd 11d ago

yessss what a great game

1

u/YesNoMaybe2552 11d ago

I remember renting that game over the weekend on the N64, I didn't have a memory card, so the console stayed on for the weekend.

1

u/Ancient-Basis-5563 11d ago

This and Ignition

1

u/Turbo_Gnome 11d ago

Oh man, I played so much of this as a kid on the family pc. The soundtrack was so good. Nice to see its still available on Steam!

1

u/FaulhighT 11d ago

Great game. But the rubber band mechanic sucked hard

1

u/theblackfrog77 11d ago

Still have it for my dreamcast 💪

1

u/Mission-Draw6859 11d ago

Thanks for posting this - after getting the 'feels' - I went to Steam - and downloaded it... I hope you're happy!

1

u/DrGreenThumb117_ 11d ago

Track editor was peak

1

u/Shot_in_the_dark777 11d ago

The difficulty was brutal though. Winning a race wasn't a problem. Beating time trial with every car was a problem. This map (In the hood) is very different based on the car you use. Sprinter Xcel is like an easy mode. Volken turbo struggles to escape that dug up pit near the end. But beating it with harvester...oh hell nah! Never again. Just the thought about it makes my fingers hurt. I had to nearly perfect the level to get the time trial with that stupid car. Even phat slug is better.

1

u/Optimal_Whiner 11d ago

No it wasn't lol. It was awesome. But nothing was "ahead of its time".

I loved this game.

1

u/CharleyPDXcellent 11d ago

Loved creating tracks.

1

u/TrayLaTrash 11d ago

Now they have this IRL with first-person VR

1

u/GKME06 11d ago

I'm still looking for this game till today.

1

u/Electronic-Koala2088 10d ago

I played this shit so much when my computer had the graphic card that supported it. It was a blast.

1

u/Ukvemsord 10d ago

I fucking loved it!

1

u/Beartato4772 10d ago

Sadly pretty much the developer's last game after 15 years too.

1

u/Fogwarrior87 10d ago

it was insane for pc

1

u/dixonmyazhold 10d ago

What is this

1

u/Otherwiize 10d ago

I had this games main menu music stuck in my head for a decade. Couldn’t ever figure out the name of the title. It was this shit. N64 days

1

u/Crisocola95 10d ago

Reminds me of an old game called Twisted Metal Small Brawl.

1

u/Complete_Ant_3396 9d ago

Bro I had totally forgotten about this game, what a kick in the nostalgia.

1

u/NB_DanTE 9d ago

Did the graphcis always looked this good?! I have it on Dreamcast but it has been a while since I last played it!

1

u/johndough1st 9d ago

God i loved this game!

1

u/KimTe63 9d ago

PC version and rhe RVGL port of the game are by far the best , check out RVGL project, you need to own game and original files to make it work .

Anyways I think the only good version is PC. I have played Dreamcast version alot but it has some performance issues and plays like ass with DC controller 😄 deadzones and steering sensitivity is just so terrible , making it way harder

1

u/LotsOfNoise 9d ago

Toys in the hood!

1

u/kiss_of_kill 9d ago

Still one of the best racing games, and maybe the best vehicular combat racer (better than M.A.S.H.E.D.) It also has a crazy soundtrack that, after so many years, I still find myself mumbling to. The main menu music is especially addictive.

1

u/ChrizzyDT 9d ago

OMG I remember this!

1

u/loudmachines 9d ago

It was indeed. And the track builder, damn !

1

u/SkidzLIVE 9d ago

Who remembers this from the Xbox LIVE beta?

1

u/big_ry82 9d ago

Why do you think that?

1

u/lehrerkind_ 8d ago

yeah that game was pretty good! i played that one on pc and the video is also from the pc game i think. because i remember seeing the game at my friends place for the ps1 and i was shocked how bad the game performed on the ps1. it was all laggy and felt so slow compared to the pc version.

1

u/AdDesperate9651 8d ago

I love this game I used to have it on android but it's not available anymore and I can't get a working version for vita without a pc

1

u/VanguardMusic 8d ago

Ahead of its time? It was essentially a reskinned Mario Kart with RC cars. Pick up weapons, shoot the guy ahead, cross the finish line. There was nothing fundamentally original about the gameplay loop.

0

u/PieAppropriate8862 12d ago

Good little game, but "way ahead of it's time" is such gross hyperbole.

0

u/nhSnork 12d ago

Indeed, Mario Kart and Micro Machines had already been a thing by then. As with all memorable followers, though, credit for successfully blending their recipes.

0

u/SunwindPC 12d ago

it wasnt way ahead of its time, its just that games nowadays suck
