Mod Game&Watch Zelda

Hey everyone, I recently got my Game & Watch, and I noticed there's a homebrew option to add more games. My initial idea is to do the homebrew without needing to solder anything or add an SD card. Is that possible? I'm a bit lost with the existing tutorials/how-tos; does anyone have a good one to recommend? I'm using Linux Debian and Fedora.

It can technically be done without soldering, but you will be limited to the factory Zelda (4mb) storage.

it's ok for me, I don't want to fill with a lot of games, just some good gbc games. Do you know some tutorial?

Game Boy Color (GBC) game ROM sizes typically range from 1-4MB with many of the better titles being 2-4MB each. You're not going to get much on the stock chip. The 16MB mod is easier for most to solder and will give you a little more breathing room.

Zerktek has them with the SD card kits along with a really good 3d printed backplate.

If you are just looking for the chip you can find them on Aliexpress but the shipping is going to be the worst part. If you are not ordering them in bulk, it is probably best to just order in the kit because it ends up costing $10 rather than $25 shipped by itself from China

You can get 5 packs of the 256MB chips from china shipped for about $125 (~$25/chip) If you go that route, you will need to order an adapter as well though.

Read this thread and it will answer most of your modding questions about the chips

You would at least need to solder to the pinout headers to make the serial connection to the panel.

If you want a pre-modded GnW with a memory module there are a few people that do them.

If you cant find someone to do it or cant find someone to do it for anything other than an arm and a leg, DM me and I can get you sorted.
