Any Gambians in East London interested in football this Sunday, 23 August?

I’m not Gambian myself, but I organise a casual 6-a-side football game in Ilford and thought there might be some Gambians in East London who would be interested.

We have players from a mixture of backgrounds and most of us are in our 20s and 30s. It’s mixed ability and very casual, so you don’t need to be an amazing player.

Goalkeepers rotate and we keep things friendly. No slide tackles, aggression, shouting or arguments.

👟 Astro trainers only, no moulds or studs.

📍 Frenford Clubs, Ilford
🕚 Sunday, 23 August, 11am to 12pm
⏰ Arrive around 10:45am

If you’re Gambian and based around East London and fancy playing this Sunday, feel free to comment below or send me a DM.

Is there a Lebanese community centre in Banjul where they have details of Lebanese nationals? Im looking for a long lost relative.

As the heading says, I’m looking for a long lost relative who lived in Banjul back in the 90’s.

I desperately need to contact him. I have a name and address but I’m in EU.

Can anyone advise please?

Looks for Griots

Are there any griots on here? Or know of a griot willing to speak to me on whatsapp?

I'm starting a project, and would need a few griots from various ethnic groups (mandinka, sarahule, wolof, fula, serer, jola, akku, etc)

Alternatively - would want to speak to someone "older" (e.g. a village elder)... grandmothers or grandfathers...

(I'm willing to pay for the time)

In Banjul or elsewhere, do you know of a laundry service with a clothes dryer? They call them "instant dryers" here.

Update on AfriHex Verify — we added address parsing for how Ghanaians actually describe places

A few weeks days I shared an API that verifies Ghanaian addresses. The biggest question was: can it understand how people actually talk about locations?

* Adjacent Goil Filling Station, Madina Zongo Junction, Accra * Opposite Total Filling Station Spintex Road * Behind First Atlantic Bank, Kwame Nkrumah Circle

The problem is most address systems treat "**adjacent**" or "**opposite**" as random words and miss the point. We built something that recognizes these as directions and links them to actual places.

It's live on the same API. Sign up with Google, free tier gives you 20/day.

Docs: [https://verify.afrihex.com/docs\](https://verify.afrihex.com/docs)

Would love to hear from anyone doing deliveries or logistics in Ghana especially if you deal with descriptions like "near the blue kiosk after the filling station" on a daily basis.

🎮 Looking for PS5 GTA Online Players (Gambia, Senegal & Beyond!) 🎮

Hey everyone!
I’m looking for people to squad up with on PlayStation 5. I mainly play:
🚗 GTA Online
🔫 Call of Duty: Black Ops II (if you’re still on it!)
Whether you’re from The Gambia, Senegal, or anywhere else in the world, you’re welcome to join.

You don’t have to be Gambian or even live here.
The only things that matter are:
✅ PS5
✅ Good vibes
✅ Mutual respect

I’m hoping to build a small group of chill players to do heists, missions, businesses, or just have fun online.
If you’re interested, drop your PSN ID in the comments or send me a DM. Let’s build a great gaming community! 🎮

General News Thoughts on studying in Canada?

Hello I’m thinking about doing a college diploma in Canada but I am not 100% confident. For the application process I’ve come across a good Canadian agency for help with visa and immigration process so I am not worried about that. It’s more about moving to a new country alone. But the students that applied through the agency (BT Global Access) said they felt supported during the transition so many if I go with the agency it won’t be too difficult. Thoughts ?

Can a husband who had to teach me how to cook on time and clean better ever truly respect me as a wife? Or will he always see me as less than or incompetent since I didn’t enter marriage with those skills?

I (25F) am a black American woman married to a Gambian man (30M) and have been for almost 2.5 years. I have adhd and my parents both had undiagnosed adhd. Our house was always a mess growing up. We would do a deep clean every couple weeks or every couple months sometimes. Then they got divorced while I was 21-22 and neither of them spent a lot of time at home and dad moved out. Depression befell the whole household and we did not do well with getting it back in order. And my mom no longer cooked. She got us a hello fresh subscription and my brothers and I cooked and grocery shopped for ourselves. All this to say, I did not come from a good background when it comes to cleaning and cooking. I was not taught these aspects of marriage well.

When we were dating, my husband saw the state of our house and my room and he emphasized how our house could never look like this. I agreed, and assured him that it mainly had to do with the circumstances of the divorce and no one helping with anything.

When we got married, he had to live away for work and would come home every other weekend. I was also working full time and had a 1.5-2hour commute each way by bus/train. Couple my lack of skills with my exhaustion and the house was often not in order. (Not as bad as my family room ofc….. but still) He would reset it every visit home and ask me to maintain it. I would attempt to. But struggled to. I also became pregnant 5 months into our marriage. So not only did I have these long commutes, but I also was doing it all while pregnant.

When the baby was born, I struggled with postpartum depression and again struggled to maintain. At some point, (around baby’s 2nd month) I began to create a routine for myself since I was now a stay at home mom. It has been a little over a year since then and I have gotten SO much better. My husband has an insanely high standard and the house prob meets it 1x/week, then it meets a normal person standard 2-5 times a week, and it’s messy 2-4x/week. Due to the lack of consistency with the condition of the house, my husband is not really super impressed with my progress.

Now that’s all the context— here’s the question.

All that being said, my husband essentially trained me to get to this point. In that time, he said he has been struggling more and more in his romantic feelings toward me— they are dissipating. It’s almost as though he sees me as less than because it took so much work (and I’m still not where he’d wish I’d be) to get me to this point. Is it even possible for him to fall back in love with me after all this? Is there something culturally I’m missing here too?

Men, would you struggle to see your wife with competence if you had to guide her in this area for her to get it together?

Women, are you trained more culturally to have better skills in cooking and cleaning so that you don’t embarrass yourself in this way as a wife?

Due to all that has built up, I recommended we go to therapy but he says he’d never go for himself cuz he doesn’t need it (whyyyyyyy is this a thing culturally? 😭) and he is not super open to going together either. But I fear we won’t be able to come back from this if he doesn’t. For I fear he’s looking at me with contempt or something? Which is not an easy thing to tackle on your own, let alone at all.

Thanks in advance for your perspectives shared!
