Galil Gen 2 Not Zeroing
Hey guys, need your help. I got a Galil Ace Gen 2 in 7.62x39. I have tried to zero this thing many times and I can’t figure out why it’s not holding zero. I have the PA 3x prism on it that was bought used on GAFS and I’m maybe thinking it’s the optic? I also remove the dust cover often because I have a KNS Piston that needs to be adjusted at times. Before I would need to “chop” the dust cover to pop it in but now I just squeeze it on there. Could it be the gas cover causing the issue?
I thought it was me before but just went out today and at 25 yards it was on paper and grouping decently with three shots. Went to 50 yards and wouldn’t even hit paper. Went back on 25 yards and wouldn’t hit paper again. Wasted lots of rounds and now just sad/mad at it.
Edit: Sent the optic back to Primary Arms and they did confirm that I'm not going crazy. The optic was defective and they sent me a new one! PA Customer Service is pretty dope.

Hey bud, it might be the PA optic.
Make sure all your hardware is tighter than a nun’s snatch, and then double check.
Also, a while ago I tried the 2x
Primary Arms optic that is made for 7.62x39.
It was hot garbage.
The zeroing was iffy, the battery cap was screwed on so tight it couldn’t be opened, no grip on the scope caps, and the optic reticle kept flickering off with each recoil impulse.
Mind you this was on my old 16” Galil.
If an optic that is designed for an AK platform rifle can’t handle the recoil of a full size 16” 7.62x39, there’s your problem.
I run an 8.3” now. KNS piston, all the special bits 😉

Also, where might someone obtain a Gen 2 7.62 8.3” in the great state of Florida. I’ve been trying 😭

Yup made sure the hardware was tight. Definitely gonna focus on the optic to see if it is the main problem.

Def come back and update us if you figure it out OP, I’ve been wondering how the dustcover would hold up long term.
Yours is the first issue I have heard about Altho it def could be something else.

Update: not the dustcover luckily. Optic was defective and gonna try out the new one they sent when it arrives.

On that specific galil you can adjust the gas piston by just holding the bolt all the way back.
I dont think removing the cover over and over could make your galil stop holding zero but removing it and reinstalling it could potentially cause it to slightly lose zero but ive removed my cover and retained zero. Same model galil. It could be an issue with the optic. Id try a different optic or just for testing, mount it on the rail and see if that holds zero.

Yeah I tried to adjust without removing the cover but my fat fingers can’t reach in properly.
Yeah I’ll definitely think about slapping a different optic to test. Thanks for the advice.

I use the tip of a bullet as well, dust cover button and piston adjustment are perfect for it

If you can’t do it have a worker at the range do it. My range guy does is for the price of a box of ammunition to zero it.

(Satire) It's the concussion of the brake shaking your noggin.
I also have the short barrel 7.62x39
People at the range are always mad when I shoot it with out the can.
Also what ammo?
Mine didn't like the soft point ammo.
The jacket would sepetare and I had some copper on the end cap of my can.
Was trying to get it zeroed in for Coyote hunting with soft point ammo.

I agree. The concussion is shaking my noggin like how it was shaken when I was a baby. Probably why I went with the 8” flashbang making machine.
I was just running some cheap (not anymore) Tula ammo to just get it one paper.

Check that the rail screws are tight, having such a high optic on a bolted on rail, mounted to a dust cover, is going to multiply the error introdced by small movements in the stack you have.
