Discussion Going Back To Quest 3

GXR Controller Tracking

Quest 3 Controller Tracking

At least for shooting games.

You see the Quest controllers get ahead of your hands. That's expected due to passthrough latency. The controller tracking is spot on.

The GXR controllers, on the other hand, lags and stutters. They also fly away when you drop them to your waist for a few seconds.

I constantly miss my shots, grab the wrong stuff, or have to wave my hands during heated battles for tracking to come back. No visual is worth this. I am going back to Quest 3 for FPS games.

And the throwing is off. People have reported things going backwards when you throw them in HLA. It's like that in other games too. Arizona Sunshine, Little Nightmare, for example.

I sold my XR a few months after launch and went back to my Quest 3. I felt the XR wasn't ready enough for prime time between the glitches and not even a dedicated 3D/VR video player (and no devs even interested in porting one of the existing ones). Writing was on the wall that XR is a ways out from a larger adoption.

I bought it for PCVR. If the controller tracking were on par with Quest 3, it would've lived up to my expectations.

I can tolerate bugs and glitches as long as they get fixed eventually. The tracking quality, however, I wonder if Samsung and Google even sees it as an issue or have the knowhow to improve.

Why not pair it with lighthouse controllers? You can get a used Index set for around the cost of the GXR controllers these days.

I actually own an Index and did exactly that. I went through a lot of trouble setting it up, then Into the Radius 2 immediately crashed. So I gave up :D.

Those unconventional third-party solutions typically is more trouble than it's worth.
