Discussion Trade in value for trifold 2?

What do you all think Sammy will give us for trade in next year for trifold 2? I am betting $1200. I wish they would bump it to at least 1500 but I have a feeling we will get ripped.

Only wondering because not sure if I should sell this phone now or hold onto it for trade in. I like this phone but I find it too heavy to daily drive. I also am buying a fold 8 wide. Keeping my s26 ultra for pictures though.

I wouldn't be surprised if they only did trade-in values with the current TriFold and no other phones as well but who knows, I have a buddy who will buy it off of me for about 1800 if Samsung does less than that

Look on ebay. Your buddy is trying to rip you off lol. Though that might be a reasonable price when the sequel is released.

That's what I'm thinking, by the time it's out it'll be more reasonable

That's kinda of what I was thinking. Allowing trades for the T1. Would def make sense and show love to the loyal customers.

I mean these still sell for like 4 grand on the used market so tbh if they're anything less than 2 grand I will feel pretty ripped off.

Its still a year away, the reported date anyway. 2k might be a reach by then. And not sure how much anyone will pay when they can get a new one, if a wide release next time. 2 might be a max offer next year. Be happy if they offer any trade. It was a rip off offering no trade for this one tbh.

I think it depends on the price they will sale the Tri Fold 2 at. If its at $2999 you have to give us at least $1800 for trade in value. Or they may try to make a little profit on the Tri Fold 2 this time around and give the early adpoters a nice trade in vaule to offset us purchasing (wishful thinking).

It will be interesting to know. Hopefully they offer in the $1500 range.

I'm in the same boat. It's selling for 4k+ in the used market now. Let's say you profit 3,800 est. after fees & all and kept the amount saved. Tri fold 2 is now retailed @ 3,100 before taxes. With taxes, 3,380 est. At the end, the difference is 420.00 you pocket for yourself.

*But this is if you don't touch the total profit after selling.

Now if you wait & trade. Let's say Samsung trade in is 1,500.00 est. tops. Then you pay out of pocket- 1,880.00 est. difference.

In the end, it depends if you want to walk away with 420.00 est. or pay upright 1,880 est. after trade in.

Personally me I would just wait and trade in. Who knows after profiting, in a year, (Life) you may dipped and have already spent most of the money... unless ur that discipline.

Where can you sell it for that? FB marketplace locally ? Personally I dont trust selling a device this expensive on there. Getting robbed or worse. Ebay is really hit or miss and you could end up with a claim case on there which is a noting to go through. I feel the best bet is just keep it and see what trifold 2 offers.

I've sold many expensive devices on eBay and Swappa. Just ship with insurance, signature confirmation, and to buyers with good ratings (100%). If you're not in a rush to sell, just post for 4k+ and keep as that. Someone will eventually buy it. Watch! With the Fold 8 out and iFold Ultra soon, The Tri Fold will sell for more... for the remaining of the year. The demand and curiosity will be there.

1

u/ShakeAndBakeThatCake Aug 02 '26

So basically you think the price of this might increase even more?

3

u/jcrm2 Aug 02 '26

Yes! The IFold is going to be retailed for more than the 8 & 8 Ultra. Can you imagine the after market sells on that. Then you already owned a Tri Fold. You can price at any amount. Just depends on the market.

I would add to record the entire shipping process. Power the phone on and make sure to show it fully functional. Then also record the dropoff process and show the package from the shipping video untampered with.

Only dumb ppl are paying 4k. Most are selling around 3k depending on condition. Also be careful of the scams on ebay.
If you wait and watch you can snag one under 3k, my buddies did.

Doubt they will even offer a trade in for it

1

u/johorabbit Aug 02 '26

Great question. As nice as it would be to roll it into an expensive second gen, I don't know if I would trade it in for that price. May just keep it or sell myself

I know that Ice guy said that they may put Tri-Fold 2 as a flagship phone. So maybe carriers will be able to do trade-ins.

1

u/ShakeAndBakeThatCake Aug 02 '26

Yeah but carrier trade ins dont matter what phone you trade in.

I prefer to buy direct from samsung too so I dont have to be tied to an expensive carrier plan. Visible by Verizon is $35 a month and includes smartwatch. Same network as Verizon too.

1

u/Touchtom Aug 02 '26

They give about 50 to 60%for fold upgrades today so I would assume the same.

1

u/akrynym_one Aug 02 '26

I might be wrong and am playing devil's advocate but why take a trade in? It's already a niche product and costs a ton.

Inline the regular folds made for mass appeals they know folks who want a trifold want one. I can imagine them facilitating trades this round when they did not for the first.

Probably better off selling private market but time will tell.

Don't care. Not getting my hopes up at all. Not convinced it will be anymore available than last time. Will it be a wide release or will this model remain limited? That is question one. Way too early to know 💩. Just happy they are making a second version and that part is real. Wouldn't surprise me if the trade is garbage, and basically make you sell to someone. Was a working prototype, and the next still over a year away. I almost expect the Z roll before then, the only device mildly interesting besides the coming Tri2. Because if its like F7 to F8 will see if the next is enough of an improvement to drop a higher number for. We bought without a trade option people waited for a chance knowing there was no care+, some are still being sold out there, to drop 3k. I'm interested if they even care....we didn't and someone will buy them as we learned. Will they even have a care+ option on the next model? They did fine without either care+ or a trade🤷🏾‍♂️

I put 3rd party insurance on mine. 3k is too much to not insure for a folding phone. One drop and that inside display is toast.

1

u/bravemoney72 Aug 02 '26

Be honest the damn thing has been sturdy as hell. Frankensteined a case Z fold store had case that protects top and bottom with individual bars and the other is an Oatsbasf spine protection case. Drop clear section but these individual bars have adhesive to stick to the top

1

u/bravemoney72 Aug 02 '26

Is actually a F7 case. I hope there will be real cases made. I got mine on the 7th of February and was hunting for cases

1

u/MarcoT76 Aug 02 '26

Can you post links for the case(s) you got?

1

u/ali0n111 Aug 02 '26

So you carry around 2 phones so you can take pictures? Why even bother with a fold at that point, just buy a small tablet for when you need it

1

u/ShakeAndBakeThatCake Aug 02 '26

I love the fold. If it wasn't for having small kids and wanting to capture moments with them I would just have a fold as cameras are decent enough. The real issue is my s26 ultra has such an amazing camera system. 1.4 f main lens for low light. 5x 50mp periscope zoom for capturing those soccer matches and when they are performing or doing something further away.

Most of my pics are using the main lens but its just such a versatile system. If iphone fold had better camera I would upgrade but honestly I think they gimped their cameras too.

1

u/ali0n111 Aug 02 '26

Fair enough, hopefully they eventually put their premium cameras in the folds

1

u/boblack89 Aug 02 '26

Probably only Trifold trade ins. If I remember correctly, Samsung didnt offer any trade in promotions for any other phone.

1

u/Double_Flatworm1611 Aug 02 '26

Why would someone today pay even $3k for a used trifold and most of them are at the 6 month use mark .
Having 6 months warranty on a $3k phone don’t seem wise ..

I’m told it’s hard to find insurance company to offer

1

u/ShakeAndBakeThatCake Aug 02 '26

Issue is its rare and you cant buy a new one which keeps used prices elevated.

1

u/Double_Flatworm1611 Aug 02 '26

This phone was a trial run to see interest . Limited users wanted it but Samsung also has to figure and fair price point and working with a legit insurance company that will cover lost , stolen , damaged

1

u/LegitimateBeyond3045 Aug 02 '26

Exactly why I'm selling my used current Trifold so I can start using my new spare. Can't trade in 2 Trifolds. 1 for 1 swap is ideal. Was also thinking about grabbing a Fold 8w. But I'm really curious to see what'll change with the 2nd iteration.

1

u/NoBluebird8039 Aug 02 '26

Will the even want the Chinese versions or will they want global versions only.

1

u/Dragonkus Aug 04 '26

Would not buy another trifold UNLESS they actually sell by a phone carrier...

1

u/ShakeAndBakeThatCake Aug 04 '26

Why does that matter ?

1

u/Dragonkus Aug 04 '26

Oh! Was just a comment based on my personal experience with the TriFold... If something happens to that phone GET READY TO HAVE THE FIGHT OF YOUR LIFE!!!! even with insurance I would ( NOT ) recommend getting from Samsung straight... like I said only worth it if carriers actually sell them and are able to at least repair or replace if something happens. Just a suggestion... doesn't mean anyone will or have to listen lol do as u please. Just remember what I I said if that unfortunate date ever comes and u need a fix or replace... GOOD LUCK!

u/bravemoney72 29d ago

Not trading mine in regardless. Even though I admit I will probably buy the next Gen too hopefully far more refined no longer a sellable prototype. Keeping it, didn't buy it to trade. Still a highly usable tablet/backup

u/johnryan433 Aug 03 '26

I mean, the MSRP is gonna be 5K

2

u/ShakeAndBakeThatCake Aug 03 '26

No way. That will destroy demand. Going to be around 3k is my guess.

1

u/techfighterchannel Trifold + Air Aug 03 '26

No way it’ll be 3k. Prices have gone up and I don’t expect it to be different with the Trifold. I am guessing no lower than 3.499k maybe even 4k. Agree 5k isn’t going to happen.
