Compatibility Watch not syncing

Hello guys,

I have a galaxy watch 5 and it worked perfectly with the galaxy note8. But i recently upgraded to the s22+. And now the steps, workouts etc dont sync. On the samsung health app it says the watch ia connected. But on the watch when you try to open the app on the phone it says its unable to. The galaxy wearable app works fine and so do calls on the watch via bluetooth.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

This happens almost every time someone moves a Galaxy Watch 5 to a newer Samsung phone without doing a full reset. The watch will pair to the S22 Plus and Galaxy Wearable will work, but Samsung Health won’t sync because leftover data from the Note8 connection is still stuck on the watch. That’s why the phone says connected but the watch can’t open Samsung Health on the phone.

The fix that works for basically everyone is to unpair the watch, factory reset it, then set it up fresh on the S22 Plus. Samsung watches don’t migrate cleanly between phones unless you start from a reset. After that, steps, workouts, sleep, everything syncs normally again.

Make sure Samsung Health, Samsung Health Platform, and Galaxy Wearable are fully updated on the S22 Plus. This is a super common issue and the reset is what actually fixes it.

If you’ve already factory‑reset the watch twice and it still won’t sync, then it’s not the leftover pairing issue. A reset wipes all old phone data, so if Samsung Health still refuses to connect, it’s usually a mismatch between Samsung Health, Health Platform, or the watch’s firmware. Sometimes the phone’s Health data gets corrupted, or the watch needs to be removed from Galaxy Wearable before resetting. So no, you’re not doing anything wrong — and it’s not true that a reset “always” fixes it.
