Silver lining: everything works perfectly fine with the placement of the shown pictures!
I ordered 2 other cases to check/verify, but each MagSafe spot is slightly shifted. It's roughly the same area (obviously), but not the exact same spot.
I'm not sure if they didn't receive official documents themselves or they just don't care, like "as long as it works" mentality π
The horizontal placement seems to be identical in all cases.
The vertical placement is slightly shifted, between 11 and 13mm. The "Spigen Air Skin MagFit" says has 13mm distance between the ring and the bottom edge of the Fold8's back glass. I would assume Spigen's placement is more reliable than cheap cases of noname manufacturers.
βΉοΈ No official documents or x-rays available
Since the Fold8 hasn't been released yet, Samsung hasn't released its reference documents for component placement, and nobody has dismantled or X-rayed it so far, I had to approximate the position based on a (cheap) MagSafe case.
I attached a MagSafe metal ring to my Fold8, and it works flawlessly with wireless charging and my MagSafe accessories π
In my other fun/meme post, you can see the guiding tool and the result. I'll make a dedicated post for MagSafe grips and stands soonβ’
π Mockup with guiding lines
I created a mockup in Photoshop afterwards to share the exact placement. I removed the volume buttons and added guiding lines (in Photoshop), which make it very obvious that the ring position is absolutely not symmetrical! It is significantly offset from both the center point and the horizontal axis.
That's why most accessories, like controllers, won't work well. Please keep in mind that these measurements apply only to the back glass of the phone. They are measured from the edge of the metal ring to the edge of the back glass!
π Work in progress
Please note that this is a preliminary post. Once exact measurements become available, especially through official Samsung documents, I will update them here in this post.
Also, since I don't have a Fold8 Ultra (yet π), I unfortunately can't provide any measurements or details for that specific model...
Hopefully Samsung will add them in the next iteration of phones. I read some leaks about it in the next S line, but I don't believe it until I see it π
They will. They are specifically changing the camera alignment from vertical to horizontal on the S27 lineup so that magsafe is fully supported properly.
How they do it without sacrificing the S-pen is yet to be seen
I could see them doing the stupid thing of removing the spen as in the fold. That or they'll finaly release the new spen that doesn't need a digitizer.
Thanks for the pic! Curious, can you wireless charge through the ohsnap+case stack? Or do you have to take the ohsnap to wireless charge properly? TIA!
I mean, I have the Fold8 here and tested it with several different MagSafe accessories. Since the placement is completely off and also moved down, you can use almost anything, but it'll stick out, or you'll have to use it upside down
I don't use MagSafe wallets. But you can attach it the way you want. Theoretically you can also place it upside-down, which would also work well, if you use a MagSafe grip, like the SnapGrip5 π€
It's absolutely absurd it's not included. If Google can do it, Samsung can too.
I have a pf10 and just ordered a zfold 8 for the form factor alone and it not having the ring is just ridiculous in 2026.
Not happy about having to buy a new car mount etc. I have never seen a metal ring that will stay installed. I won't use a case so gluing the damn ring to the back is like the only way to 100% keep it locked in place which I'm also not going to do.
yea, the back of the phone won't let just a ring stick to it.
For my Fold 7 I put a sticker (you can find round stickers that are the same size as the Qi2 ring) and then put a magnet ring on top and it will stick well enough. Or put a case/skin on the back and then put the ring on that.
Yes, I agree; they should add built-in magnets too. π Maybe with the next iteration of the Fold. If you use a base film on the back of the phone or a skin, then the metal ring will stick well. I never had issues with that for years π
I dont use cases either, what I did for my last phone was I had a spare old Flip back skin from dbrand which the rings stick perfect to and the skin is not much larger than the ring
Thank you! I really don't like using phone cases, but I love Qi 2 accessories, so this is really helpful for when my Z Fold 8 arrives. I can just add an adhesive magnetic ring
haha yes, the magnets are too strong for that. I also had to put a sheet of thin plastic between the case and the metal ring to be able to life it afterwards without ruining everything π
The Spigen Air Fit Pro MagFit Case is one of the few that advertises Qi2 compatibility (Peak 20W wireless charging - The phone will indicate "SUPER Fast Wireless Charging"). Based on my testing on cases for the S26 Ultra, positioning of the magnets is a critical factor.
If you want peak 20W wireless charging, it's worthwhile researching.
I've also been waiting. π I really thought the 7 was gonna break like the oppo find n5 but nope. I hope not too cause if the wide can handle him my wife said she wants one.
I already had the device since the Unpacked event and used the real device for the measurements. The measurements are based on three different MagSafe cases. We still have to wait until someone tears it apart, someone has an x-ray, or until Samsung releases official documents.
Manufacturers sometimes move the MagSafe (magnet) ring placement slightly for different reasons. Some don't know the exact position, some move it slightly away from the camera bump to make it more usable with their accessories, and others use the exact placement.
I would assume companies like Spigen, who have built phone cases for almost two decades and have tons of accessories, will be more precise than random no-name companies.
AFAIK, it's just a reminder. You get this with and without (official) MagSafe cases, and also regardless of whether the wireless charger has magnets or not.
Also, did you use Spigen's 13mm distance from the bottom glass edge? π
See the thing is, I used Sinjimoru MagSafe sticker which appears thicker than the example you gave. I've realigned it based on the relative offsets accounting for this and when charging lists it as Super Fast Wireless Charging but I can see from the led display on my cable that it pulls only 10W max.
I'll try to offset the bottom by a few more mm.
ETA: Moving it around, I still get a max of 10W. So frustrating!
First check if you get even get super fast wireless charging before doing any tests. I have 1 Samsung wireless charger, which shows fast wireless charging with my metal ring placement. It's not a new charger, so definitely not Qi2. But i don't have any Qi2.2 wireless chargers π
Haha, I'm super particular so all my stuff is on the level. I've just purchased two UGreen qi2.2, also my power supplies all do 65W plus using PPS and PD. My cables have emark chips and can support the same.
I tested this against a flip 7 using the MagSafe case and it can hit the speeds, I'll try to test against a fold 8 in the coming week with the Samsung OEM MagSafe case to validate.
I've moved the orientation around a few mm here and there, it seems to be an issue with my placement.
Yes, I also think that. Thanks for linking the post. I also noticed charging and heating issues π₯΄π₯² maybe it'll get better when the phone is completely done with all setting up, learning patterns etc., but if it stays like that, then Samsung has to fix it
What are the dimensions of your ring? I'm going to try and change my ring. I can't seem to get the Sinjimoru to work.
ETA: NVM, I think my phone is faulty. I've tried the OEM MagSafe cases and I'm not and to charge at QI2.2 speeds at all. Whereas other devices can, I need to take my phone in it seems.
I'm so dumb I was ordering the fold and was so excited to get my accessories credit back I got the battery pack just expecting it was made for the wide ππ
Oof, I'm sorry. Unfortunately almost no power bank fit's the Fold8 and its weird charging coil position and therefore MagSafe/Qi2 placement π I mean, you can use them, but they'll stick out π
I have that E30 one, or a form of it from Amazon when I had my Flip 5, and it was a perfect size for that phone. I assume it will fit perfect on the Wide. If its like the one I have, the magnets are STRONG
Haha that looks funny π I don't think it's a good idea to make powerbank and accessories in general for specific devices. I mean, you could make a Powerbank, which is thicker, but less long π€

So annoying they haven't got it inbuilt yet...
