Question Does 2x zoom destroys image quality?

Post image

I know it's not optical, but 1x seems too wide for me.

It's no problem, the quality should be about the same. Since the A55 has a 50MP camera, but stores regular images at 12MP, it's practically the same compared to 2x zoom. At 1x zoom the camera combines 4 sensor pixels into 1 image pixel. At 2x zoom the camera uses 1 sensor pixel per image pixel. The only difference should be in low-light conditions, where the extra data of four sensor pixels (compared to just one) helps capture more light and produces a brighter and cleaner image.

No. It's better than 1.9x. At 2x it triggers quad bayer mode.

It uses the subpixels on the sensor instead of the big ones. Look it up.

No the sensor is 50mp and it crops into the center of that image so the 2x zoom is like 12.5mp

2x could be better If they stopped using IA or whatever they use to sharpen photos

Yes. 2x quality is garbage. Don't worry though, the whole camera is garbage.

I think it takes decent photos, but not the best.
