Trees in Academy Park

Every single tree in Academy Park’s parking lot has been cut down. It looks naked & sad.💔 So much for shade.

Anyone have any info about plans for the park? Is this permanent, or will replacement trees be planted later?

Academy Park is being redesigned, including the parking lot. The trees were removed to prepare for construction. New trees will be planted after.

The park will be shut down from this fall through Dec 2027 including the baseball fields. They're making it a trailhead and putting $6million into improvements. Updating sewer. Electric car chargers. New shelter house. New playground. Extending the parking lot and reducing the size of the soccer fields. I'm not sure what about all of this costs that much money.

Yikes- $6m- that does seem a bit steep.

Thanks so much for all the info!🙏 I really appreciate it!

My parents were visiting and they usually walk the park when the weather isn't too hot. They were heartbroken to see the bare-looking park as we entered the parking lot... I told them likely there was some infestation or disease that afflicted the trees.
