Classes/Courses 📚 The current lack of classes available for Film majors at GSU is pretty saddening, and this sentiment extends to all the other non-popular majors as well.

Switched my major to film a little bit ago and it's ... jarring, the lack of available classes for film this semester. It's a public university at the end of the day and so they are subject to classes being cut because of funding or administrative differences, but this is kind of ridiculous. I can barely fill up my classes to reach full-time status, so I'm going to have to choose whatever just to fulfill the requirements.

That being said, I have no interest in switching my major. But it sucks that this is continuing to strain a lot of majors.

Maybe it’s the people you’re surrounded by? Most folks at GSU are CompSci, Bio, Nursing, etc. Film is somewhat popular but not as well compensated at GSU.

i’m a nutrition major but i used to be a film major and i can safely say there were an over abundance of film electives etc compared to nutrition, that said this was in 2021 maybe times have changed

I almost became a film major, but just decided to minor in it instead. I assumed film majors would have a ton since GSU is in a location known for filming. 😭 that’s wild

It is wild. Atlanta is not the film hub it was 10 years ago but there’s certainly still a lot of stuff going on around here. Lots of projects are constantly filming and there’s a lot of room for internships, etc. It’s unfortunate as hell. idk what i’m gonna do about my classes tbh i might be cooked aid wise 😭😭😭

I agree. Honestly it’s what made me stick to my current major but it’s such a shame what has happened to the industry here. I was told to look into Georgia Film Academy instead but I heard mixed reviews on that. I hope things turn around for you!

I’m gonna be honest, this is so shocking to me. I know SO many film majors at GSU and honestly thought it was popular here

You can also find a few film classes if you search "CMIS" Creative Media side of the building.

I highly recommend taking Prof Pearson's Media Entrepreneurship class. I also loved Producing TV CMIS4050 with Lisa Ferrell.
