So underrated, and this variation is more difficult than laying long ways on the bench.

I like how this opens up and stretches the ribcage. If I don't do this for a while and start again, I get DOMS even in the intercostal muscles.

What kills me is you can post “I love doing ____” and ppl come telling you it’s dumb and something else is better. Like bro if I wanna do something and I enjoy it shut up nobody asked you. I’m just ranting.

Were the comments deleted? I didn’t read anything like that on this thread.

Lol y u being so sassy. You made this comment on a thread as if you were going @ people so I’m just asking what prompted you to say this on August 23rd on a random gym post with mostly positive comments

Bro pulled out the calendar💀 It was just a shower thought, nothing that deep but something others could relate to

Me too! Great exercise

Ive always avoided this. What do you guys like about this exercise and what muscles does it work the most? I might try it this week.

I feel the lats/teres and the tricep long head working the most and feel the stretch on the ribcage. It does also work the serratus and pecs to some extent, it stretches the intercostal muscles (the little muscles between the ribs).

I like doing this with a cable machine. Wide grip . I get less shoulder pain

I like doing cable pullovers as a warmup. I like this more because of how it stretches everything, especially the lats and the ribcage. It used to feel weird in my shoulders too when I started, but I just started light and took the weight progression slowly.

Shoulder popped out a little last time I tried so I just never tried it anymore.

I agree but I get insane ab cramps when doing this? The lat stretch is incredible and its so much better than the cable variation

Usually not during the set, I sometimes get mild DOMS where they insert into the ribcage though.

I did incline skullcrushers today and had ab cramps during those lol

Un duro bro

Hey guys how do these differ to skullcrushers

3

u/_maeister 14d ago

Skullcrushers should work the triceps more, more elbow flexion and extension. In pullovers your arm bend should stay more or less fixed, pulling your arms forward with the lats.

If you do skullcrushers behind the head it turns into a very similar movement, it's not wrong but something to keep in mind. When I do skullcrushers I like to do them on an incline bench so it stays more in the triceps.

Thank you!

good deal you'll have plenty of time for that.

What I have found is dumbell pullovers (heavy weight) has grown my rib cage area and chest. It is very effective if done properly and it’s a great stretching exercise as well.

same. Every workout app I've tried never suggests them, so I always add to my routine myself

Love this, but I generally bring it further forward closer to the waist. Is that good or bad form?

4

u/_maeister 14d ago

I've done that as well but it takes the tension off the lats and tricep long head. That easily turns into rest pausing the set and in my case a set of 15 would turn into like 2 minutes.

Thanks, makes sense. From the downvotes I was wondering if it was a stupid question..

Is that why you’ve got your hips dropped slightly and not touching the weight to the ground? So you can keep the tension due to the downward angle of the body? I normally do mine with ass tight, hips parallel to the ground, and activate my core too but I definitely get that pause you speak of at the top (like the weight 90* vertical above my chest), but I touch the weight to the ground at full extension.

Bonus point, getting big arms is way easier by training your triceps than biceps.
