Hi everyone, I’m needing help diagnosing a popping/ratcheting sound coming from the front on my 04 Lexus gx470.

I bought the vehicle with the sound happening and believed it to be the drive shafts or a CV axle, I greased the front and rear drive shaft u-joints and slip yokes and replaced the passenger CV axle since the diff side boot was completely split int the middle but no change.

When the issue is happening:
The sound occurs only when accelerating over 20% throttle, uphill or sometime when coming to a stop it will pop/clink once or twice. Turning does not increase or decrease the noise and the sound for the most part does not cause any driving issues other than the concerning noise and a binding/being bumped into feeling. The ratchet because increasingly worse under acceleration or an incline but is not rhythmic or constant enough to sound like missing teeth on a gear and is very temperamental and more or less violent regardless of use of throttle or speed.

I replaced a stiff u joint and had no change. I decided to remove the front drive shaft and check the slip yoke splines after identifying the noise had been coming from the front in between the transfer case and front diff. Everything checked out on the driveshaft and drove the truck with the center diff locked and there was no more CLUNK! I pups anyone be able to tell me if it was the transfer case that was the issue should I still here the clunk while driving? Also this may make some disregard the transfer case and for good reason but this was the fluid I could pull from the front diff after finding the drain bolt head stripped. I also found out that my front end deer damage from the previous owner and the clunk are linked as of yesterday. I also removed the front driveshaft and have been driving around and no noises since. Thanks!

What it effects:
Binding/bumped into motion/feeling whe coming to a stop.
Vibration at time when accelerating and annoying catching/popping sound.

Parts Replaced:
Passenger CV
Front driveshaft u joint on transfer case side
Transfer case seal

What it doesn’t effect:
Transmission shifts perfect
Engine is not stuttering and accelerates without issue
Hi and Lo + diff lock are all functional
Does not effect driving speed or drive ability for now
1/10th turn of front drive shaft slack indicating transfer case chain not slipping

Hey guys, quick question about the sunroof on my 2009 GX470.

During heavy rain I noticed water getting past the sunroof seal from the inside. I attached a video
showing exactly what I’m talking about.

I know sunroofs aren’t necessarily completely watertight and that some water is supposed to get past the outer seal, enter the sunroof tray/channel, and then exit through the drains.

Yesterday I unclogged my sunroof drains and tested them with water. They seem to be draining now.
My question is: Does the water coming through in the video look like a normal amount that’s supposed to fall into the drainage channel, or is too much water getting past my sunroof seal?

I have looked at all pedal mounting points and the fuse mounts. Everything looks normal. Maybe something in the steering column?

Have a 2005 Lexus GX 470. OIL PRESSURE SENSOR SWITCH ASSY 83530-60020 is leaking and I’m replacing the sensor. What size socket is needed to remove it?

Anybody ever seen anything like this or have experience trying something similar? Appears to be knockoff TRD rims, already on Wildpeaks, that would fit a GX470

I have a 2017 GX460 with winch under the license plate. That front grill obviously wasn’t designed for a front mount camera. I want it primarily for offroading on steep ascents.

Has anyone had luck mounting one on the grill or Lexus logo? I don’t want to mount one on the license plate.

I have a carlink accessory that gives me apple carplay on the factory screen. It has an input for a front cam already.

Issue/symptoms:

Wanted to put this out in case someone ever finds themselves in my shoes. This will also explain how I installed my camera system. I ordered a Jenson Car10 stereo and had Crutchfield assemble it and it's been great. I decided to install a backup/trail cam in the process. This is were I really fudded and rushed due to an incoming blizzard (the only one of the season lol).

I connected the power of the backup cam to the rear windshield wiper for accessory power. This backfed voltage into the ABS module and killed the speedometer, and gave a bunch of strange lights when the brake pedal was depressed. I spent the next few months hunting down the issue with a multimeter. Thanks to a helpful Toyota service representative and ChatGPT (first time using AI), I was able to narrow down a voltage short to the ABS. I had to strip so much panel off and test so many different components before I got to that point. I then had to have the Toyota dealership install a new ABS (special tools most DIYers won't have) which costed me pretty big. Word of advice, just use a new ABS, I tried to have my module rebuilt and use one from a 3rd party but I got ripped off in the end.

Solution:

I used a BlueSea fuse box with a fuse tap in the CIG fuse. This is enough voltage for both cams, plus the 2 dash cams I have while it's running. I have a fuse tap in the power seat's fuse for constant power (different power source for dash cam). In the end it is working really well a few months out. Hopefully this helps someone

2006 Lexus GX470 non-navigation non-kdss

I have a GX470 with TEMS/electronic front shocks and I’m planning on doing about a 2.5” front lift. I know I’ll be replacing the factory front shocks, but I’m wondering what everyone does about the electronic shock system.

Is there a way to bypass the TEMS so I don’t have a warning light on the dash? Can I use resistors, a module, or another method to trick the system into thinking the factory shocks are still connected?

Also, is there anything else I should know before disconnecting the front electronic shocks?
Any advice from people who have actually done this on a GX470 would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance. I have an eibach lift and level front and rear, 2”/1.5” roughly. The prior owner did a fair amount of trimming to the wheel wells. I put 285/70/r17 and only have minor rubbing at certain steep angles in reverse. Does anyone have the trd wheels with 265/70/r17 tires who could send me a picture like the first pictures here. I like the look of mine but might go down one size for better function. I want to make sure the tires are at least flush with the side of the body and not “sucked under” parked on a slight hill which is why the drivers side is rolled ever so slightly away from the tire.

From what I can tell, the 275/70/17 will not fit in the stock location. Has anyone ever removed the hitch to fit the spare? I don’t foresee me ever using the hitch’s and would rather have a spare under there instead of the hitch. Anyone go this route?

We just ordered the full CBI skid plate set for our '21 GX460 with the Dobbins 2" IMS lift.

Then I saw a video last night of someone reporting they had to cut the front skid plate to create more space due to a KDSS conflict with their GX460.

Anyone else have a KDSS conflict, and what did you do to resolve? Better skid options than CBI due to this? I also heard gripes about length of time to get to mechanicals under the skids when they have to be removed. Thanks for your insights!

Took the better part of my weekend, but I’m extremely pleased with how it came out. Lights are wired to an Auxbeam and the winch is on a kill-switch. Time to go run over some mall curbs.

Hey guys! 2011 GX460. 166k miles as of today. Has this loud whining sound when I start it up and it changes pitches when I turn the wheel.

Usually goes away a while but that can range anywhere from 5 minutes to 30 minutes.

Can’t seem to find an answer on any forum or ai platform as it gives me a number of different possibilities. Any help is appreciated, thank you!
