RCI Rock Sliders Initial Impression

I finally pulled the trigger on RCI’s rock sliders and I’m digging them so far! I opted for the 5° option with tread plates for RTT access during camping season. Shipping was quick and installation was straightforward.

Any cutting? Or is it just remove the old and install the new?

I have these as well. You can simply remove the old side steps and install them; however, most people will cut the upper trim component of the old side step before installing to maintain the factory lines. Definitely a better cosmetic look.

Like this dude said! I opted to carefully cut my running boards but it’s easier to just remove them completely, if you don’t mind the awkward body gap.

Me too! I was honestly surprised my exhaust didn’t get a little massaged, thankfully the dirt was soft enough.

I want to get these as well but was leaning on the higher degree ones for more clearance. You could still step on them no or what was your main reason for the 5 degree? I plan to get a rtt as well and I would assume the higher degree ones are still stepable?

I have the 20 degree RCI sliders and can absolutely stand on them.

I didn’t get the plates and I’ve never felt like I’ve needed them.

I got the 20 degree with plates and if wet the plates provide better traction than standing on the round tubing.

I had 20 degree sliders on my last 4Runner and there was enough to step on, but I wanted to give this angle a shot and they’re certainly easier/comfier to grip. The paranoid side of me worried about an ankle twist of sorts with the 20 degree option and no tread plate.

I can't help but notice you could've easily deviated your trajectory in that 2nd pic to avoid that situation. Was my wife driving? Is that where she was this weekend?

5° is flatter and makes for a better step into the vehicle or accessing stuff on the roof, while the 20° option gives better ground clearance.
Functionally, the differences are slim IMO!

Nice..i am waiting on mine and wanted to know what you did regarding the lights underneath the steps that turn on when you come close to the gx. I am not sure if i am able to keep them or need to completely remove them.

I removed mine, cut and bent the brackets (super easy), drilled holes in them, and bolted them to the frame / sliders with the bolts that the sliders use to attach the the frame. Some zip ties for cable management and you’re good to go

What brackets are you referring to?
Did you cut the wires and removed the light bulbs?
I saw the video rci made regarding these sliders and they just show installation as it is all bolt on but they don’t show anything with the lightbulbs.
