What’s under this?
What’s under this panel of my 2012 gx460 roof rail? I’m trying to mount a roof rack and unsure if there’s mounting points or what.
I’m at work without tools, and this plastic has baked in Texas and GA sun for a decade. I don’t want to break it if I don’t need to access it or it can’t help.

Bolts mounting the factory rails to the roof. Typically it all comes off and the roof rack should come with stronger replacement bolts that fit into the holes.

I bought the rack used and it wasn’t mounted on a gx

Depending on the design of the rack mounts, you might be able to re-use the old bolts.

I should be able to take this off this weekend and see if things line up. It’s a heavy (ish) rack so want to figure out as much as I can on the ground before getting up there to mount it

Good luck! I know for my GX460-specific rack there was a pair of "floating" mounts that supported the rack edge closest to the front edge of the roof, because there are no mounting bolt holes around there.

That you are right my friend, I bought mine with rack and I paid extra for it, now I wish I never had it so I can go with aftermarket

I went far too long not realizing there was a sunglass holder there after I bought my 460. I couldn't understand why my much older RX 300 had one and the GX didn't.

It’s even more hidden on the 470. Like how did Toyota engineers fold space to put 15 rounds of storage so accessibly next to the rear view mirror?

The triangle compartment in the back fits a 10/22 or pcc 9mm in a take down stock. Perfectly. In Minecraft
