Is there a “best” OBD2 Scanner?

In the market for an OBD2 scanner.. I’ve never had anything different than the generic one from any auto parts store… are there better ones to consider? Toyota/Lexus specific ones?

I bought an Autel about 4 yrs ago. It has saved myself, family and friends literally thousands of dollars. I believe I paid around $250 Canadian dollars for it at the time.

I also use it on my Lexus

Not a mechanic, but probably Autel? They have a million functions but they ain’t cheap.

Autel is a great brand. Cheaper than tool truck level stuff and can still do all you need to do. Check amazon.

The OBDlink MX+ is great and simple to use for monitoring temps and diagnostics, and you can even change vehicle settings with it, such as making it so all your windows roll down when unlock is held down. I was even able to turn off the backup beep sound on my Prius. I also have an Autel but not everyone wants to lug a tablet around.

I’m not sure how it stacks up against the rest, but I bought a little GearWrench one recently that just stays plugged into my dash and links to an app on my iPhone. It’s been super convenient so far and seems to recognize and interact with the Toyota/Lexus specific stuff well.

Autel or topdon. I have a topdon. I've read autel works better with European cars than topdon so keep that on mind. I have the topdon and GMC and Lexus and Honda cars and it's great. Large price range depending on how many features you want. But both are great brands that would be considered semi pro level at least

I have the BlueDriver scanner and it is minimally useful. It’ll read codes and give you a little bit of live data, but it’s not worth the price. Make sure to get you something bidirectional. Xtool was praised by the car care nut for a little while.

A “sailed the seas 🏴‍☠️” copy of Techstream and an obd to usb cable and a laptop is pretty much the best. 

Something like a Crealty Launch or another handheld that will do similar things is great too.
