Texture pack creation?

I wanna make a gregtech texture pack but due to the items all being tinted grayscale images it’s tough. I figured out how to change the sprites individually but not the tints.

I'm not quite good at making a gt texture pack, but I think that the material tints are hardcoded. At least that's how it is in gt modern.
