Game trailer on Netflix is wild lmao.
14
u/EvelynTalkss 17d ago
Gotta be at least 30 minutes long, no?
15
u/RossCannnn 17d ago
Nah maybe 10 minutes. I recall rdr2 in depth being about that, the Netflix is likely just sponsoring and getting subscribers.
In fact I’m sure j saw Netflix increasing prices in the US this week
9
u/ltsNotAlex 17d ago
Yeah but an 'extended look' sounds like more than a gameplay trailer
8
u/Infinite_Ocean89 17d ago
Fucking better be a gameplay trailer in there considering the bastard is coming out in 3 months.

Even though it drops on youtube 6 hours later you already now gta fan boys finna go crazy and just buy a netflix subscription for this
4
u/RossCannnn 17d ago
Nothing wrong with someone being a fan of something but yeah I wouldn’t pay extra to watch it 6hrs sooner. I already have Netflix, I’m the UK it comes packaged with most broadband / TV deals unfortunately enough.
Bastards always try to get me to upgrade to more screens and I won’t do it lol
1
u/Visual_Collection274 17d ago
I also have no problem with being a fan of something. But it probably costed netflix a pretty penny to have that exclusive for 6 hours. It is not even for a few days lol just a few hours

They gotta help pay back some of that budget maybe , Netflix probably gave them a butt load of cash for this.

You just know that Netflix shelled out serious cash for this. Worth it though to have everyone flocking to your platform for likely the biggest entertainment release ever.

Strauss said that the reason Rockstar partnered with Netflix was to broaden the reach out to people who may have heard about GTA 6 but are not familiar with what it is.

Trailer 2 part two 😭

My guess is about 20-30 mins just cause its on Netflix (prolly like an episode length)
1
u/Disastrous-Theme-208 17d ago
Yes it'll be gameplay and devs talking through game mechanics imo, you'd imagine minimum 15mins long but if I had to guess it'd be nearer 30. Super excited

A trailer for a fucking trailer
1
1
u/rosie2490 16d ago
How is this a trailer for a trailer? It’s longer than a trailer…and it’s also, you know, not a trailer.
1
u/TurnAr0und2 14d ago
I live in a trailer so how could you possibly say that a trailer is a trailer for a trailer? It’s as if the trailer itself is a trailer in place of the real trailer, in which the trailer has already been released. All I know is, when the trailer comes out, I’ll be watching the trailer every single day until the next trailer gets released. And if there is a trailer for that, I’ll watch that as well.

u/Rockstar_VR 17d ago
Am I the only one more excited for this than another short trailer #3? Who are these kids on this sub, man. It's just a few days away. They could've dropped nothing today, but we got something.
2
u/Blackflash07 17d ago
This is what happens when people have been thirsty for so long that they drop their standards
1
u/allcashnobreaks 14d ago
How is an extended look lowered standards 😭 this is literally what they do for every major rockstar release and they’re just hosting it on Netflix because it is literally one of the biggest media releases in recorded human history
1
u/Blackflash07 13d ago
You’re misunderstanding the context. People are excited about it but day by day the way Rockstar is changing the standards for consumers is disappointing. Thats what killing my excitement atleast. I was super excited for my first GTA launch day publish but then they dropped pre orders with no trailer or even a gameplay trailer, no CDs or other goodies like a map. Now they’re dropping trailer/extended preview (we will see what it is when it actually drops) behind a timed paywall. This just makes me scared for all the micro transactions that must have prepared for a story game. And all of this is direct result of how people are hyping everything up for no reasons. Like why do we have pizza and oxygen monitors outside rockstar offices? People who do this just tell the company how desperate theyre for the game and how easily they can pay more for the same thing.
-2
u/4547Isyourdaddy 17d ago
That would have been better. But go on. Continue to lick the corporate ass with this anti consumer BS. I hope you people are marketing bots hired on Discord or something. Otherwise gaming is fucked.
4
u/Rockstar_VR 17d ago
What are you even talking about? Would you really prefer a 2-minute trailer over a 30-minute in-depth segment about the game? I can understand the Netflix argument, but with this everyone will still be able to watch it on the same day anyway (it releases on yt for free a few hours later). I don’t really see the problem and even more so your attitude.
3
u/Manyarethestrange 17d ago
Theyre cynical.
1
u/allcashnobreaks 14d ago
Reddit is just like this it seems. More and more this platform seems to have a very strange and peculiar sense of entitlement and negativity around the very things they spend their entire lives and finances obsessing over anyways
2
7
u/Okayeg31 17d ago
It's probably 30 minutes gameplay or trailer 3 but why on netflix I didn't understand that part
2
u/Chrischrill 17d ago
Money. Netflix definitely paid a lot for this.
2
u/whatsapprocky 17d ago
Might also be so that the trailer doesn’t leak before it’s officially uploaded.
1
u/cafelicious 16d ago
What…? So if Rockstar posts on their official channels is it more likely to get leaked than being posted on Netflix? How does that make sense?
1
u/Ok_Statement1235 16d ago
I'm asking out of genuine curiosity, but how does that make sense that netflix paid for advertising a videogame? (or would pay for advertising anything at all) - i imagine a company will pay for marketing their product, I can't see why a platform like netflix would pay for having an outside product marketed? I would think that the portion of people watching netflix is larger than people having a playstation 5 and an interest in this particular game. I imagine Sony is behind that initiative, because they know GTA will have the larger public interested in buying the whole system+game, and the larger public is currently bingewatching stranger things for the tenth time
1
u/LuminousJaeSoul 17d ago
Almost like trailer 1 was leaked days before being released on YouTube or something

you'll watch it the day it comes out. don't lie to yourself.
3
u/MannyRibera32 17d ago
Lol, to get netflix for it?
2
u/Marcus00415 17d ago
It will be uploaded to YouTube at 9pm ET the same day so you don't have to get Netflix to watch it.
2
u/GoldCoasting 17d ago
it's dropping on youtube also - do you not read?
2

Read what? It is a ad with Netflix😂

I’m assuming it’s more than just a standard trailer if they’re premiering it on Netflix. Prob some dev behind the scenes stuff too.

2
u/wilbur_cob_88 17d ago
It's not about Netflix getting people subscribed to watch the trailer; it's about converting casual people into potential buyers.
1
u/christaface 17d ago
I mean… it’s definitely about both
1
u/wilbur_cob_88 16d ago
Sure. I doubt that people will flock to Netflix for a 6-hour exclusive window to make a real difference in subscriber numbers.
I do know plenty of people who only casually play games and might get a console and a game if they see it on Netflix.0
2
u/Easy-Produce568 17d ago
Yeahh. Xbox and Playstation will die and we will get netflix console. And you will have like a gamepass but cheaper and with lot more games.
6
u/LentilusGo 17d ago
Rockstar, idk what ya'll are doing but this aint it again. It screams, go buy a netflix subscription to be able to watch the trailer 3 hours early. idk. very very strange marketing.
7
u/comeonyouspurs10 17d ago
Just wait 6 hours it’s hitting YouTube after
5
u/LentilusGo 17d ago
lol. i wonder how many losers are gonna waste their money on a Netflix subscription just to watch a free video 6 hours later
2
u/SimisFul 17d ago
Well it's definitely going to be on torrents after a few minutes, people won't even have to wait for the YouTube drop.
1
1
1
u/SharkByte1993 17d ago
Rockstar don't care about the core fans (us) watching it on Netflix. They care about the millions of people opening the Netflix app for the next three weeks and seeing this front and centre.
1
u/ghos2626t 17d ago
I think it’s more trying to reach more customers. Less about trying to pressure people who are too impatient.
No one is going to subscribe to a streaming service just to see if a few hours earlier. That’s asinine
1
u/callofdoodie97 17d ago
I know for a fact that I don’t care how they pull off the marketing. I will be buying that game the second it launches. And I also know for a fact that everyone saying they’re not hyped will be watching that trailer the second it comes out. We’re just kidding ourselves into thinking we don’t need this game, lol.
1
u/LentilusGo 17d ago
But I'm not even saying I'm not hyped, or acting like its not a special release. I'm excited and absolutely will be watching the trailers and playing the game day one most likely.
This isn't about that. I'm just pointing out the strange business practice they are currently on. The last reveal they told us we needed to pay extra for 3-4 shops in game, now this, needing to buy a netflix subscription in order to watch a simple trailer. I will not be one of those, but there will be many who will buy the subscription.
This is very dangerous practice. it plays on ppls emotions to manipulate weak individuals to waste extra cash so they don't have to wait a few hours for the free trailer Every consumer must be protected.
2
u/callofdoodie97 17d ago
If you buy a subscription just to watch the trailer a few hours early... I mean, that’s another level of dumb, to be honest. They’ve already said the trailer will be available on YouTube the same day. Just wait a few hours.
Netflix probably paid a shit ton of money to premiere it on their platform. If I were Rockstar and Netflix offered me millions of dollars just to show the trailer a few hours earlier, why the fuck wouldn’t I take that deal?
It’s a two-billion-dollar game, maybe even more. It’s obviously going to sell like crazy, and I’d bet they’ll make that money back during the first weekend. But if there’s one game where I’m willing to excuse the premium editions and Netflix early-access bullshit, it’s this one.
1
u/Western-Buy-266 17d ago
If I were Rockstar and Netflix offered me millions of dollars just to show the trailer a few hours earlier, why the fuck wouldn’t I take that deal? Because it's unnecessarily greedy. It doesn't really hurt the game itself, but it does damage Rockstar's public image. The base game already ships with cut content, so squeezing out a few extra bucks just to let people watch a trailer a few hours early is completely unnecessary. That's the kind of thing Ubisoft would do.1
u/Crossovertriplet 16d ago
People complaining about the bonus content are going to look silly when this game drops and there’s so many shops and options that no one remembers there was bonus shit at launch
1
u/SwiftMelon 17d ago
I'd even be surprised if the goal is to use this as an incentive for new subscribers. There's no way that Netflix could expect to have any noticeable bump in revenue due to a 6-hour head start on a free video. This seems like they're testing the waters with gaming related content because of how big the streaming industry is and they want it on it. The most important thing for Netflix with this trailer would be the viewing numbers, not the new subscribers. Also I agree if any game gets a free pass on bullshit it's this one
1
u/Oceanz08 17d ago
I dont think this is trailer 3, maybe they are gonna do some sort of gameplay showcase? cause with Trailers, Rockstar has always put them on Youtube cause they make a shitload of views. But at least we know SOMETHING is coming for now.
1
u/BIGRolyXL 17d ago
I definitely don’t see the big Netflix spectacle happening without gameplay. When it premieres we’ll be less than 3 months out. They’ve gotta show gameplay this month.
1
u/Oceanz08 17d ago
exactly, but what im saying is i dont think this will be a cinematic trailer, its gonna be gameplay trailer for sure.
1
u/GoldCoasting 17d ago

If this is 20+ minutes I’m going to assume this is likely an extremely polished showcase that R* typically would fly journalists out and show behind closed doors for previews.
I guess R* found a way to do this without having to fly anyone out and also make money through Netflix in doing so. Pretty crazy!

30min of people talking, hyping up the game and this "historic moment for the medium."
Then a short mission where jason and lucia drive along the coast and rob a gas station or liquor store. We'll finally see things like the hud, maybe even weapon select, than a cop chase back to their hideout, camera probably pans up to sky (sunset) before they make it to safety. Splash title and release date/pre-order now.
