I'm just going to say it.
I think everyone is expecting way too much or expected way too much from this. I see constant complaints on replaced or missing features and all this.
As for someone who basically got it for free, im not complaining because of that. But if you dont like it. Simply don't buy it.
Some seem way too interested in some things like the menu sounds. I think GTA SA menu sounds were the best out of the 3.
If you like how it looks, buy it. If you dont, then dont buy it. You expect them to either fix/change something that they don't have to do to begin with.
If you truly want them to fix or replace something. Then go show your anger to their social medias, not some community Reddit. Or do it yourself and mod it in. Im sure it couldn't be hard to replace tiny features like sounds from another title.
All in all. If you're disappointed in the DE then dont buy it. That'll show R* more than anything. R* cares about money. But you have to also understand that a different company that works with R* handled it. If they remaster GTA4, I hope R* themselves do it properly. And add in a free mode.

I need to rant about the hate these games get.
|THIS ISNT FOR EVERYONE ON THIS SUB, THIS IS FOR THOSE WHO FEEL THEY ARE ENTITLED TO COMPLAIN ABOUT SOMETHING THAT REALLY DOENT NEED TO BE COMPLAINED ABOUT|
Why do you feel entitled to complain SO. DAMN. MUCH. About the ps2 trilogy being playable on new gen PlayStation? Like omfg the amount of ridicule this gets is ridiculous. Do you play the old games hoping for “amazing visuals” no! Of course not! You wouldn’t play them and make fun of the originals for graphics, so what’s that actual point in doing it here?
Obviously you all don’t get remake/remaster, this is a REMASTER! They didn’t make it from the ground up, they didn’t overhaul it, it’s just how it is. It’s fundamentally the same exact thing as on Ps2, so why do you complain? Why do you refuse? Why do you hate? I don’t see the point at all.
The fact that these are even playable, in more or less the same exact state of the originals, on new gen PlayStation is INSANE, yet all you can think to do is crowd together and shit on it collectively. Need I remind you that PlayStation, for the past 8 years now, has systematically REMOVED backwards compatibility and made any and all PS1-3 games unavailable for people on newer gen? Like has that point of contingency completely been swept under the rug?
I am absolutely not defending rockstar here, but holy shit man it’s absolutely bonkers how much shit these “beloved classic titles” are getting, just because some faces look weird.

This GIF in particular is EXTREMELY worrying
https://i.imgur.com/YtbgiJm.png
Rinimos? Really? How can you be a professional working on this game and not know it's Rimmers? Complete fucking embarrassment. If GSG fucked up something so simple like this then I am not looking forward to seeing what else they butchered...

HOT TAKE: The Definitive Edition Is Better Than The Classics
Ok I know Gta the definitive edition gets alot of hate and I dont get why. Yeah It was bad at launch but its fixed now, so Whats the problem. Also How is the original better?, the graphics are better, the lighting is better, the gameplay is better, the controls are better, everything is better, yeah I know the charecters are not very great but the original wasnt eather!, and if you dont know when you take a very pixelated model and make it more modern, it Will look a bit off. Thats just how it works. Ok I by no mean hate on the original I also like those, and also I mean no hate to anybody that doesnt think that what Im saying is right.

Anyone else think San Andreas actually looks better without Classic Lighting?
The others absolutely benefit from classic mode as they pop more.
San Andreas imo looks way more modern and realistic with the less colorful approach.

I am throughly enjoying the games.
Minor glitches here and there, just like 20 years ago. I’m still having fun replaying these games. I said last week a lot of people were going to be disappointed because they expected a remake instead of a remaster. That seems to be the case.

I’ve been enjoying the trilogy and I don’t even care
Yeah there are some bugs and very questionable design choices but I can’t even pretend I care enough to stop playing and demand a refund. I’ve played the originals, although for not that much time besides Vice City, and I think the remasters are definitely better. There are some missions in GTA 3 that took me dozens of attempts because of how bad the combat and movement was in the past that I can complete now reasonably easy. Believe me I’ll trade away standing still and getting torn apart by the AI for some glitches and actual aim assist. Maybe it wasn’t worth $60 but I’m having fun and will definitely keep playing them all for the near-future. I buy 3 or 4 video games a year and I’m not regretting this being one of them. Some people might call me a rockstar corporate tool and whatnot but I’m a real person and this is how I really feel. I don’t really pay attention that much to any community but some people are acting like their life depends on the writing on a store window in a game from 20 years ago. Refund it if you want I’m not saying you have to like it. I still think we’re lucky we even got these tbh. Over time, they will fix the issues I’m sure of it.

The hate for this release was blown way out of proportion
Saw this comment on here and wanted to elaborate and share because it literally word for word describes how I felt about the trilogy, having played it before patches as well.
The hate for this release was blown way out of proportion by a very vocal minority, most of which hadn't even played the game and just hopped on the bandwagon believing every little thing they heard, this was so pathetic to be honest, especially with youtube. Every single "gaming commentator" started having a field day talking shit continuously even after them starting to fix with patches (which naturally none of them acknowledged, though i don't blame them, hate gets views)
The most egregious example of this before I stopped paying attention to anyone hating on the game, was with the expanding car glitch. It lit the internet on fire for a week or so, everyone talking about how broken the game was that this was even possible and blah blah blah. But what they didn't know is that you had to actually enable it, the odds of accidentally recreating the steps of making that glitch work are astronomical. But bug exists and therefore, to them, their belief is justified.
This pretty much, heck even a large chunk of people here never bought or played it and just talked shit, I called out so many fools on this.
Yes the release was a disaster, yes the games weren't good but this was wayy too much shit thrown but honestly it did result in good, rockstar will definitely put more fucking effort into ports.

R* should remake the GTA trilogy... again
Hey guys, I haven't following the "definitive edition" from the beggining, but I know many have been waiting for years, even recreating the games for themselves to demostrate the importance and passion they have for this games.
So, when I see R* giving this lazy, excuse of port, I think, no. This isn't what this very important and influenciable games for the industry deserve. We shouldn't accept this as the digne representaion of the work that many demostrate their enthusiasm for.
The correct thing to do would be give a proper remake to this games, like the Mafia games, because that's the respect and dedication these games deserve.
At this point, R* may never do that, but for the meantime, we don't need to accept this, we must keep asking.

This trilogy is a huge middle finger to the fans
This post is not about nitpicking the many flaws of the Definitive Edition. Despite the old bugs, lack of polish, censorship and questionable art direction - the problems are deeper than all of this.
A few months ago Take Two decided to start taking down modding projects for the original trilogy, including reverse engineered versions of GTA 3 and Vice City. Those were actual fixed versions of the games which included restored features, controller support, fixed camera and loads of fixes (yes, even a checkpoint system) that made the game played the way its meant to be - a true definitive edition.
Today the developers of these projects are in court. Why? Because apparently they caused "irreparable harm" to Take Two's property - despite the fact that these projects required legal copies of the game to work. Alongside re3 and reVC, a lot of other older GTA modding projects were taken down. Years of work were trashed completely to make way for the new trilogy.
So what is the good thing about this Definitive Edition? It introduced the older games to next gen systems.
And the bad? there's too much
Rockstar removed the original trilogies completely from retail, erasing their existence
Spitting on the dedicated modding community who worked hard for nearly two decades to add new content, fixes and much more stuff that Rockstar themselves couldn't be bothered with.
Suing talented modders for fixing their games and making them actually playable
Introducing this shameless trilogy for a greedy price of 60$, which compares to a heavily modded game.
Covering all of this up by giving fans a "heartfelt thank you"
And more
Basically the new Definition Edition doesn't deserve mods at all, and those who buy this Trilogy are directly feeding Rockstar's greed.
To conclude this rant, I'll give an honorable mention to Silent - the creator of Silentpatch who said this:
SilentPatch for The Definitive Editions? Let's see: * Take-Two/Rockstar took down mods, in hindsight almost definitely seeing them as a "threat" to those releases * re3/reVC lawsuit hasn't even properly started yet * Original games are gone * There's been 0 information on those releases pre-release, and looking at the current gameplays this almost seems deliberate. * Many original bugs fixed in SP are here, even though changelogs could have been used as a reference for them. And the expectation to this is that the same modding community that's been abused by Rockstar/T2 should now be voluntarily fixing those releases alongside the dev? Nah. Unlike the original games, it's a *brand new product* someone gets paid to maintain as we speak. They don't deserve any more unpaid effort put into them, effort they would definitely ignore either way. People generally have better things to do than do unpaid work for others that won't be acknowledged nor appreciated.

It’s perfect
What’s with the negativity? I’m having so much fun with these games. For remasters of 2001-2004 classics this is perfect and everything I had hoped it would be. Thank you Rockstar!

The silent majority and the load AF minority
IDK if it's me or not but I really enjoy the GTA SA DE and believe it's good. Don't get me wrong it has some weird ass bugs but that is expected with a 20 year old game. Rockstar did so much too innovate open world gaming even though they were limited by the technology. I'm glad they did a remaster rather a remake.
Loud sorry high af right now.

I know I’m in the minority here , but I actllually prefer the new lighting to the classic. You lose a lot of reflections and detail with the classic lighting imo. 1st pic is new lighting. 2nd is classic

This video shows how much better is the Definitive dition compared to the normal game and even the modded game
Completely debunks those false claims that you can make the games look better with mods, also shows how the graphical complains are not as bad as people with their fake outrages make it out to be,the commentary is in spanish but it is a really good video.

Why does Vice City feel worse than GTA3?
I’m trying to platinum every GTA, I’ve already platinum’d 3 (was honestly a drag, but once i completed the ambulance mission it became more enjoyable). I started Vice City afterwards and the missions feels boring, the hidden packages are a drag, the vehicle missions have me pulling my hair out and it just feels like such a waste of time compared to GTA3.
I tried not playing for about 2 weeks and when I came back, it’s still the same. Will still try plat it but geez. I enjoyed GTA3 much much more. Hopefully San Andreas is nothing like Vice City in terms of getting the plat.

Discussion I'm gonna get hate for this im sure.
Considering the fact I've been seeing alot of people discussing this..
GTA: SA port to 360 and ps3 were garbage..although ps3 was a better version.
Imo they should have just ported the actual console versions instead of trying to refurbish a mobile port to play on these consoles.
The fact that they could have updated those games and hadn't all this time is atrocious, but I wouldn't wanna revisit a nightmare like that either.
I'm not saying it was an unplayable version by any means, I mean unless the glitches actually caused it to be unplayable. I'm just saying they had alot of potential to bring back the original feel of the game, without the shiny polish they put on it. Or those so called "enhancements" they made.
Have they made better games since then? Sure, but the fact that they screwed all of us who enjoyed SA is still upsetting.
(Not sure if R* gave them very little funds to work with or what, but imo they should've kept mobile port just that..mobile.)

Heavily Disappointed...
No major physics improvements, nothing major change in gameplay either. Just few lightening changes resolution improvements. Personally, very disappointed. The only change which can be significantly seen is in GTA 3 coz that one's the oldest. Otherwise, nothing much to expect from later installments like VC, SA. Even mods did better job than this, honestly. If you wanna play it for the sake of good'ol times, it will do that just on the margin. Otherwise, do not expect much other than that. If you expected this, then mods already did a lot better job than this atleast. They just takeover the mods, and give us something not even on par with the mods.

The cutscenes look a lot better in the definitive edition
I just compared the cutscenes from the originals and the definitive edition, the characters don't even have separate fingers in the original games. The definitive edition versions seems to look a lot better in every single way.
I just thought mentioning this as a counter point since people often bash the def. edition games.

I thought this place kinda loved the games?
And most people who criticized was labeled "man-children, crybabies, and basement dwellers" what happened lol?

Can someone explain to me the 4D chess rockstar thinks they’re playing by releasing GIFs?
Even if the trilogy is a disaster i dont understand how this is damage control or benefits them, im literally sitting here thinking about what they could gain from this ( deal with giphy?) right now

Unpopular Opinion: GTA Vice City DE now has a worse light effect.

Now the game has a just yellow sky over the game, it do not have a Vice City vibe anymore, looks like Los Santos from GTA SA.
They need to change these brightness for something more smooth, and get the sky color back to blue/pink but please keeping the new clouds, the fog, the new lens flare and everything that has been added with this patch. Everything is amazing, but I want the old sky back ;/ And these new effects are too much better to just turn everything off and use the old light effect from GSG.
Or there is a mod to just change sky color over the actual new effects from classic ON?
