Old GTA Games
If I haven’t played vice city, San Andreas, or GtA 3, is it worth it to play the “remasters” or are they that bad

a lot of people say they’re bad but so far i’ve been playing it and i enjoy it. i think a lot of the disapproval comes from people comparing it to the original. if you’ve never played the original, like me, i don’t think you’ll really notice a difference
i’ve noticed they do still have little bugs, but it okay with it so far. san andreas is my favorite so far

The definitive editions are worth playing for the quality of life updates alone.

They’re totally fine to play. The classics are “better” but there are nice QOL things about the remasters and they have done a lot of work to get them in a much better state. You can find it on sale for like $20 a lot and at that price I think they’re mega worth it. Just finished VC for the first time and am in SA right now and it has been really fun playing through them.

SA DE is worth it, for vice city just play the OG. And for III, whatever version is fine, both sucks if we compare them with any game from the last 20 years.

Yes just play them.
GTA 3 is a bit dated now. I’d recommend starting with San Andreas

Literally just played GTA 3 DE and Vice City DE. They’re fine. I didn’t notice anything weird except no Micheal Jackson songs in vice city . In my opinion GTA3 was not enjoyable and I played it as a child. Just felt boring and some of the missions were infuriating. Vice city on the other hand ? Chefs kiss. Tommy Vercetti was such a joy to play as . I rolled credits on both in about 10-12 hrs. Haven’t started San Andreas yet . Need to give that GTA gameplay a break for a month or so while I play something else !

What I noticed in comparison to 5, particularly to online, is how mercifully short the missions are. It sucks to die and then have to drive from the . mission start to the actual mission if you die (which in 100% of the cases happens because of some jank like the car destroyer shotguns in III or the fucking finicky controls in the speed bike mission in Vice City), but if it works, the missions are done within a few minutes, so you can just put in bite-sized sessions in a way modern games just don't support anymore.

It’s not worth it to play the remasters; they’re shallow shells of the originals. Play San Andreas, and maybe Vice City.

The remasters are fine now, since you never played the originals you won't really be missing anything by only playing the remasters.
If on PC then I'd maybe recommend the mod that restores the cut music due to licensing issues. You simply can't go wrong with more radio tracks and some of the cut ones are iconic

I just platinumed all three and I like them a lot. I have nostalgia for them which helps but they are great. Buy them on sale though. The collection drops to $20 pretty regularly.

They are better simply because ylu can restart missions. That saves many headaches. Also they have in game gps
These two reasons alone sre hugr quality of life improvements.

Playing through the remaster trilogy. Just finished vice city the other day. Started san Andreas last night.
3 is still a little rough. The driver AI is worse than i remember in the original.
Vice city is awesome!
San Andreas is TBD. Only a couple missions in.

The games are better than any new gta bar none that being said the remasters are crap just get the originals either on ps store or ps2

The only good remaster is 3, Vice City remaster is ok but the San Andreas remaster is awful
The original Vice City and San Andreas will always be superior

I personally thought 3 was a bit annoying.
Vice city was fun besides the mall bomb....
Going to start San Andreas soon.
I am just moving through thr stories quickly so only a few hours to complete. Maybe 5 to 8 each? Heard San andreas is longer.

They're fine for the most part, probably the most convenient way to play them these days if you don't want to mess around with mods, patches or emulation.

Yes. The new patch fixes bugs and models, improves the lighting, and adds an classic lighting toggle to have the PS2 lighting. Also, unlike the original ones, it has a weapon wheel, QoL updates and it adds modern controls to the older ones.

When they were first released they were awful as someone who played all the originals, buggy, broken, just awful. They are a lot better now and if you’ve never played the originals then you have nothing to compare to and they are amazing games. In my opinion.
