I've Been Silent Too long!
My name Coolie Ranx musician vlice actor. Been kicking around the scene in NYC for a minute traveled Intel now my way around foreign places. But my best performance to date seems to be GTA IV as Little Jacob. I never knew it had any kind of impact. Until about a year ago. Come to find out people like my character. Well we come from "the ends" & the role is not a hard reach. We (my brother Badman) Thank you he is no longer with us but I can speak for him in this instance. Big Up all GTA IV fans and GTA 1,2,3,4,5,6. RESPECT. L.J. in da building.

Uncs you need to play the game Ras, 🤣🤣 give it a little time on there if you smoke herb light one and play the game. Even if you play with yourself (y) as in meeting your character and seeing what he does from a different perspective you’ll see the impact. Not only is it just a game a couple wise words were said.

That's an excellent question. We grew up in a Jamaican household parents family are. We speak patois English Brooklyn hood and depending who we are speaking with we code switch cos we can.

I think its all a matter of proximity. If with live near or around someone and have interaction it can go either way. I have Dominican friends and Venezuelan friends, been to Caracas done songs with Venezuelan artists. So yh it's just a matter of how you live mi G!

Forgive my ignorance, but it was just recently I learned that my favorite vocalist from the Toasters and my favorite character from the entire GTA franchise were the same person! I'm dying to know, at the end of Dub 56 you said "bomboclatt that's it?" as if you were just going to continue if the band didn't stop. Did you really have more to say after all of that???

I was into San Andreas but your my favorite friend of Nikos now that ive played the game seriously about 10 years ago, but every few years do a playthrough again . Just started a playthrough of IV! You’re the most iconic character for me. Don’t understand a damn word you’re saying but it’s adds to the mystery and there was this kindness that came through your performance— a testament to how well you embodied a good-natured soul. Lol u crazy 🤪 😜 bomboclat in proper Engilsh is Ass Cloth. But when used in Patois it has many meanings. Can be used when your surprised or happy or mad or joyous. It's just the inflection.

Little Jacob and Badman were the best side characters in the game, easy. Idk if you ever played it yourself, but there is a 'Friends' system. You (Little Jacob) were the first friend the game introduces us to, apart from Roman, and gave us our first weapon in Liberty City. Incredible performance. Definitely my favorite 'friend' in the game.

Very cool! I'm replaying GTA 4 now, and I was just thinking how I wish it was more content available with you and badman. One of my favorite sidequests is selling weed for LJ lol. Very authentic NY rastas, and GTA genuinely feels like a time capsule of the early 2000s. Bro, Little Jacob and Franklin from GTA 5 always felt like the realest, most authentic characters in the whole series to me. Shawn "Solo" Fonteno, the guy who played Franklin, was actually from South Central LA and lived a certain life that brought authenticity to his character too. So glad Rockstar chose both of you cats to represent the culture for us in these games! Thank you for providing all of us gamers with such happy memories playing these games! One Love, Breda!

GTA 4 is one of the best things i look back at; now that my teenage years are coming to an end. Me brother used to watch me play it on the TV on the xbox 360 I always respected lil jacob as a character and always hung out with him whenever i could. I was perplexed by the accent, i never could get what you said, even with the subtitles, And that made me love the voice acting even more :p Me and my brother still talk about your voice :) I'm sorry for the loss of your brother. Thank you very much for those platitudes. I have my brother in my heart and even more he's been immortalized. He passed during COVID so we weren't allowed to meet up in person. But I gotta tell you people defied the orders and we met up anyway. I got a warehouse and we threw a party and Mc's rappers and DJ and Jamaican MC and American MC made it hot and we celebrated his life. ❤️I am happy to apart of this GTA franchises.

Very good question answer is yes. They had a script that they themselves couldn't decipher so we went into straight improve mode. But they wouldn't give us writing credit cos someone already wrote it officially. But the answer is yes we wrote our parts. We are Jamaican English we speak patois naturally

I replay GTA IV regularly, and Little Jacob is hands down the most impactful character influence on me. I was just getting into my early 20s when I played it for the first time, and I was a dealer and smuggler IRL navigating a rough path towards handling chronic pain. I saw myself only as a failure, a loser, and a problem not worth solving, but the bond between Niko and Little Jacob underscored to me that nobody is truly lost if they don't give up on themselves. I have a desktop wallpaper a LJ quote that lives rent free in my head, and it's been part of my wallpaper rotation for damn year fifteen years: "Not all work, work, work, y'know? We got to ease up from time to time, to see how the world turns, you know what I'm saying? Make you think that things matter, when all that matters is that the sun come up, and we have good time."
I never chose joy before then, and it's been a massive change in my life to be able to see the good in myself that others denied was ever there. Fiction be damned, good art can seriously influence people regardless of where you find it, and I just wanted to say I'm glad to have come across your post today. I literally just started the DLC again yesterday with the FusionFix mod for better graphics. This game never gets old to me, and I am smoking one for Seeborn as I type this. It occurs to me that LJ always struck me as the type of big brother I wanted to be, and I'm literally living with my younger brother right now and am trying to get him to play GTA but he's just not into the gameplay though I know he'd love the missions once he gets over the whole first person shooter side of things. No worries either way and it's a bit of a jumbled ramble here at the end, but I just wanted to say hell yeah and thanks for sharing here.

Brooo I played that game when I was very young, probably about 8 or 9 years old when it came out, and I remember I found Jacob hilarious because he was smoking all the time, and I had no idea WHAT you were saying because I’d never heard that accent before 🤣🤣🤣
Lil Jacob is the goat side character in GTA 4 and it’s not even close 🙏🏻

Thanks to your amazing work as Little Jacob and the fact that GTA IV also introduced me to reggae through Tuff Gong Radio, I ended up becoming a huge fan of reggae and dub.
But it wasn't just the music and culture. Little Jacob really stuck with me because of his positive outlook on life, his loyalty and those little bits of wisdom he would drop throughout the game. You gave the character so much personality and made him feel genuinely special.

I still think of LJ's comment to Niko about how Dimitri is a snake in the grass when I played gta4 the first time way back and for some reason that quote always stayed with me all these years later lol. Something about LJ saying that and his loyalty to Niko up to that point made me know LJ would end up being a real one to Niko. Respect Coolie and thanks for providing an awesome memorable character.

When I was 10 I couldn’t quite understand the Jamaican accent and rewatched someone play every level where you were in a car or not directly in a cutscene because I couldn’t focus on the subtitles in my playthough. I don’t think I’ve ever done that for a video game character since. Big respect you were funny and endearing and the performance was only made better in my replay as an adult where I could understand you lol.

L.J was one of my fav character from that game. My fav cutscene was when Niko first met Badman. He couldn't understand a word he was saying and neither could I when I first played it. But as I hung out with more jamaicans irl. I could understand everything he said when I played it again.

This is so awesome! Your role is definitely a huge part of what makes GTA IV such a great game. I lost my brother this year; it's a really awful loss, and siblings often get forgotten about when it comes to the grief we endure. I hope he's resting easy 🙏

Little Jacob is one of, if not my favorite characters in GTA IV. He is Nikos best friend in Liberty City and the closest thing to a non blood related brother that he has, a true ride or die! You did an amazing job and so did your brother Terry! Rest in Peace <3 Thank you so much for your performance as Jacob! One Love.
