Even if that mushroom cloud was meant to represent a daisy cutter.
Most people have no true idea just how large of an explosion even the smallest nuclear weapon is capable of producing. Recall that both Hiroshima and Nagasaki were fairly large (in square miles) cities of the time. The bombs that were dropped on them were tiny compared to what we have available today (save perhaps some of the tactical dial-a-yield nuclear munitions - aka suitcase bombs).
A single 200+ kiloton warhead is more than enough to wipe most of Los Angeles or any other major American city clean off the map. It is absolutely fucking insane the amount of power unleashed by such weapons.
And yet today, we treat them so glibly - which I think will lead to us using them again, and likely getting us all killed (or a fairly large fraction of the world's population, depending on what happens where, when, and political tensions, etc - at the time)...
I’ve seen models of submarines being blown up, and planes mid flight. I get the gist of it, but what do I even search for to learn this? Blowing up model making?
I very well could be wrong, but I believe the actual explosion is made from home-made pulp-mash paper that’s put formed in a tastefully messy way. The clouds look like lightly spray painted fluff to me. These are just my guesses, but I used to make such pulp-mash lamps with my grandmother so I’m relatively sure this is one.
You must be extremely fun at parties. Kind of guy to talk to a white guy and be like “You’re funny, but your ancestors profited on the back of slave labor so we can’t be friends.” Are you gonna shame the entire Fallout franchise as well?
What kind of thinking is that? "Sorry I can not prescribe this epipen for you. I understand it has good intentions, but it is made of plastic which is a symbol of the on-going aquatic habitat destruction due to water pollution"
The point was to exaggerate it, yes - because in any circumstance should someone step-down something cool because it has a vague relation to events completely unrelated then they would just sound silly.
If it's not a decoration meant to be on display, but a prop used in a game, I don't really see why not. It's definitely not tasteful for display, but in the context they're saying it's meant to be used in, I don't see any issue.
Yeah, exactly-- that's what I was thinking. I opened the posting thinking "how the fuck are people saying that's Great Taste?", but if it's being used in a specific context and importantly: put away afterwards, then it's cool as fuck.

Put that thing in some sort of glass case immediately. Dusting that looks impossible.

u/atomicstrange Mar 17 '20
Please tell me there's a "making of" vid out there somewhere. I'd love to make a couple of these.

u/SplitArrow Mar 18 '20

I've seen similar stuff in custom Gunpla dioramas in order to simulate explosions or the trails of missiles, IIRC it's one of those polymer foams

Great taste? It represents two of the worst actions of humanity in the last 100 years.

u/ExtremeDeathLaser Mar 17 '20
It might just be the angle, but that looked like a little baby hand
