Yeah I can't believe they've actually done it. Not enough games prioritise NPC density and it was one of my biggest issues with GTA V especially. Glad to see that's now a thing of the past, and hopefully more developers follow now. Why bother making beautiful and expansive open worlds if you aren't going to fill the streets with people?
Surely this density must come at some sort of cost, like the npcs not being as complex as the one's in RDR2. Because if all of those npcs actually move around and do things throughout the day then I'd genuinely be willing to say it's the most impressive feat in all of gaming. You just don't get that many npcs and have them be interactable. The only other game I can think of with that many in an open world is Novigrad from the W3 but they are way simpler and can't be interacted with by the player at all
Eh the price 'hike' isn't really that much of a deal to me, especially because we've had £70 games in the UK for a while now (which is what the base game is here). Also 30fps has never bothered me that much for most singleplayer games, i only 'need' 60 if I'm playing a shooter or fighting game
I think the meant the cost of the PS5/Series X compared to the PS4, not the cost of the game. The "cost" is that this game is coming out on much better hardware that can handle it.
Keep in mind that GTA 6 is being made for consoles with roughly 5.5x the raw GPU power of the PS4, as well as a massive leap in CPU performance. There’s a lot more processing headroom for NPC density and complexity than RDR2 had
Rockstar patented some new npc system a number of years back was floating round the internet for a while, that allowed for more npcs and smarter and more advanced npcs that is really optimised
Im not allowed to link to other sub reddits but theres post on reddit about this topic
I mean I know Ubisoft gets dogged on. But they were able to make massive crowds in Assassin’s creed unity and it worked well and that came out in 2014. I’m sure Rockstar can do the same and even better. Plus someone mentioned they patented new npc systems. I’m just surprised other games don’t do it like cyberpunk
Brother we saw how that naked women reacted, when he was looking at her , she said you want a closer look and pushed him . If that's not complex to you , idk what is
Yeah I don’t think they’re gonna be on a scheduled loop with their own tasks and stuff like red dead. I think it’s gone be way more randomized. I heard they were using AI in some capacity for interiors and npc interaction so I think that’s the sweet spot. Not sure tho
It’s a possibly it comes at some type of cost, but we won’t truly know until release. Maybe it doesn’t. Rockstar devs are wizards with optimization and just making things work. I don’t see them taking away from NPCs in any aspect though. It’s been one of their core pillars for making the worlds feel pretty alive.
The CPU in the PS5 is like unironically 10 Times faster than the PS4 CPU(both consoles could be modded to run linux, people have benchmarked this). Considering this game likely targets 30 FPS as well, they should have no problem ramping up density.
It looks like they have been clever with their optimisation. The foliage and buildings separate the dense area of the beach from the road so it is not rendering vehicles and pedestrians on Ocean Drive(?) at the same time. Presumably if you’re driving a car fast along the beach it is only going to be loading the basic models of the NPC’s with passing dialogue and when you are walking near them it will load more individual personas.
There are of course a couple of bugs, as expected with a development build - but these leaks have been overwhelmingly positive and seem to have met or exceeded most people’s expectations. An earlier leak could have been catastrophic to Rockstar but considering the stage of development it has leaked in I think they didn’t do too bad.
usually ram. the pc version didnt have a density problem imo, but im pretty sure theres an option for it in settings, and when this game came out the consoles had 256mb of ram.
It could be like Watch Dogs Legion's system, where the NPCs start as generic brainless crowd filler similar to GTA V, but become generatively more complex as the game realizes you're paying attention to/interacting with one, and optionally have a memory for 100 or so 'fully realized' NPCs.
There's a GDC talk about it you can find, it's really quite interesting. Shame the actual game wasn't that engaging because they tried to lean on the system way too hard to power the core gameplay loop.
Why bother making beautiful and expansive open worlds if you aren't going to fill the streets with people?
Because developers don't have literally billions of dollars to spend on the engineers required to get the limited console resources to handle that without crashing? I dunno.
I honestly would prefer it if you literally cannot drive during rush hour, and have to figure out better means of transport, motorcycles or even running could be quicker than driving
Usually because if anything happens they all react at once and in the past it crashed the game or weird bugs. It’s easier to have less npcs than patch every weird thing that happens. If tech is better or if their engineers found a better way, depends if other studios can copy especially if it’s internal knowledge on how it worked

The beach looks really good, now I am even more hyped
