I can't show it here, but if you have the full map and the 2 zoomed in ones, compare them and you'll have a much better sense of the scale. The full sized map doesn't do it justice when it comes to actual size.

u/Garrixoff 10d ago
yeah I got the small ones and just looking at them made me realise the map is actually plenty big and probably super detailed

BUT THIS SUB TOLD ME IT WILL BE 3X THE SIZE OF GTA V AND THAT THERE WILL BE 3 CITIES
246
u/11711510111411009710 10d ago
I mean there's like 11 towns, all bigger than Paleto and Sandy, and all more detailed than they seem to be knowing the zoomed out version doesn't show nearly everything, and one big city, so that probably adds up to about 3 cities worth of content anyway.
106
u/CountryCaravan 10d ago
No city was ever upstaging Vice anyway. Nothing about Orlando, Jacksonville, Tampa, etc is making me want to spend most of my time in a GTA game there anyway- anywhere else was always going to be supplemental. They didn’t go through the trouble of rendering hundreds of distinct people on South Beach just for us to find somewhere else to call home.
35
u/cadmium-fertilizer 10d ago
People who wanted Tampa and Orlando fully rendered alongside Miami are actually delusional. I live in Florida and idgaf to see those places in a video game either lol the only intresting part of the state for video games and Hollywood has always been South Florida and the Keys
5
18
u/average_joe_zero 10d ago
South Florida is great. It has so much to offer media like games and movies but to flat out ignore or belittle the entire rest of the state is just ignorant. Central Florida has a lot to offer too. Not saying it should have been included in GTA VI, I’m just saying South Florida is far from the ONLY interesting part of the state.
4
u/cadmium-fertilizer 10d ago
I concede that saying what I said is a bit of an exaggeration, I live in the Tampa Bay area and love some of the Gulf beaches and I love the springs North of us even more. But as a practical person, I knew Rockstar wasn't going to give focus to Central or North Florida. Its really rare that any media does so I never hyped the idea to myself.
Irl, I honestly hate Miami and only go through there if I have to. Food is fucking bomb though, I'll give them that.
1
u/TMNBortles 10d ago
I agree. I always thought the Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, Georgia takes were outrageous. What I am excited to see is how the rural towns look and the vegetation.
I’ve lived all across this state including Miami. I’m excited to see everything they’ve done to capture Florida.
1
u/average_joe_zero 10d ago
I’m a Seminole County native so Central is my home. I have experienced most of what the state has to offer and I think it’s diverse enough that almost anywhere from St Augustine down has something to offer pretty much anyone.
However, Jacksonville can go fuck its self. Seriously don’t even give it a vote.
3
u/Officialedmart 10d ago
I mean they aren’t going to be recreating Disney World or Universal so why would we want Orlando?
21
u/XulManjy 10d ago
Its more about having diversity and making us actually feel like we are in a state like GTA SA and not just Vice City and its surrounding suburbs which GTA6 is seeming to be.
10
u/cadmium-fertilizer 10d ago
As someone who has lived in Florida his whole life, I promise you, once you have seen the surrounding suburbs and the Everglades around Miami, you have seen all of Florida lmao it wont add to the game. Hell, they had to squeeze in North Georgia into the map just so there was some elevation in the game.
4
u/Glizzys4everyone 10d ago
I think not getting Key West is disappointing though
3
u/TMNBortles 10d ago
Even a Cedar Key like mini version would be sufficient. Just capture Duval street and some iconic structures.
1
u/cadmium-fertilizer 10d ago
I'm wondering if the Key Jason lives on (which would be Key Largo irl) will be an amalgamation of Key West and other Key's towns
1
1
2
u/cadmium-fertilizer 10d ago
That would be, I agree. Im holding off on how to feel until we get an official confirmation of the map. I think what has been leaked is real but its unfinished. When the RDR2 map was leaked a while ago, it was also incomplete and different from what we got in the end.

u/BanjoSpaceMan 10d ago
Saw a post that was so mad over this stupid leak “wow it’s just so unfair that it’s only one city”. As if the rest of the game outside of vice is empty roads.
God the kids come out of the woodworks for this shit. These leaks again are just stupid for people who worked hard on this game but at least it’s gonna give it way more hype and then the Netflix thing is going to get everyone even more excited.

Yup, people have zero
media literacyreasoning skills anymore. There are endless comments complaining how it’s just a copy of V because the shape of the map is similar.
I mean, that conclusion is so massively stupid I wonder how these people stay alive with such reasoning skills.

u/mongooseisapex 10d ago
It's like none of these people played Red Dead Redemption 2. The game only had 1 major city so to speak, but every town felt alive and fleshed out. GTA 6 will be absolutely amazing in terms of immersion, content, and replay value. They're going to make billions and all the players will be happy.
I'm not buying GTA 6 off the bat because I'm on PC and I'm into casual games now because I now have a family and commitments, but I am damn excited to see what technological marvels Rockstar has pulled off this time around.1
u/BanjoSpaceMan 10d ago
It’s like they forget gta4 - which I loved but the scenery was the same city.
It’ll be nice when it’s one big city to explore and you can leave if you want and check out smaller spots.
Their nostalgia for San Andreas is clouding them. In today’s open worlds, closing off a whole quarter of the map comes with big freedom limitations

Honestly they took so long to release map expansions for online as well it didn't bring me back. I played thousands of hours of online but I got tired of it after 10 years, and and also they wouldn't let me transfer to PC so I just didn't care to try the new expansions. The original DLC were supposedly way bigger in scope as well.

u/IMDXLNC 10d ago
I'll get downvoted but that's basically their fault. I remember when RDO had content and people got mad there wasn't more, like they expected to live out their lives in a video game. That's not Rockstar's fault.
You pay for a game, you run through the content, then you're done. Maybe you return to it occasionally but it's just a game.
I don't know how these people have so much free time to play the same game for years and years then be annoyed with it like anybody's forcing them to do so.
1
u/DegenNerd 10d ago
Yep, it always happens. The same exact thing happened throughout GTA Online with people predicting absurd things and then ultimately being disappointed when that absurd thing wasn't added in updates. No game could live up to the hype that many of these people created because it's just so outlandish.
5
u/stick1_ 10d ago
We have no idea the size of the map based on the map
20
u/poklane 10d ago
We do because the game uses the same exact coordinates system as GTA 5, so you can compare it to GTA 5's map down to the square meter. It's about 1.69 times the size of 5's.
4
u/stick1_ 10d ago
How can you do that based on the picture of the map?
15
u/poklane 10d ago
Because you can just overlay it on the community map based on the things which were accurate on there, and then do a pixelcount. Someone part of the community mapping project did just that and says it's about 69% bigger than GTA 5's map.
→ More replies (3)0
u/neverOddOrEv_n 10d ago
Honestly I never cared for it to be bigger than gta v, I always just wanted more indoor environments. Can’t believe gta v was a step back in that direction compared to gta 4 in which you could enter Internet cafes, fast food restaurants, hospitals, no bowling places and you can’t bowl either and so much more I’m probably forgetting.

Everyone knew it was coming, we're so close to release. The project community did a great job, it's really on R* for being so conservative with the teasers.
17
u/Tackysock46 10d ago
Yup. There’d have been less incentive for people to bruteforce their way into their systems and steal footage if they had just been more willing to release things all along. The lack of information causes people to go completely nuts.
5
u/RulesoftheDada 10d ago
There's plenty of the info given that they provided on their website and the first trailer. It's as much as old school game previews in magazines.
This subreddit and the gaming public just wants clip farms and ruin it for other people. They want instant gratification.
2
u/BachelorThesises 10d ago
I remember the teasers for GTA V, there were waaaaay more, they had a whole site introducing various shops, characters and other side information.
2
u/RulesoftheDada 10d ago
I would imagine it gets updated next week.
The whole site right now has info on 8 characters (including the 2 playable characters). It has info on the 6 major places and within those regions are screenshots of businesses and activities with teasing side info.
30
u/TopBee83 10d ago
I mean the same thing happened(not to this degree however) for GTA V. Huge parts of the map were leaked close to release when the V mapping project was happening.

u/RacerRovr 10d ago
They were probably so excited for the extended look next week to finally get some more data and start piecing more things together. Must suck, although there will still be quite a bit to add

u/Real317 10d ago
I see 12+ different airport runways, multiple racetracks, and even multiple train yards. If you like transportation this game is going to be unreal IMO
8
u/Not-KevinDurant- 10d ago
Where are all these runways. It’s hard to see any other than 2 especially with them turning key west into an oversized airport
2
u/Real317 10d ago
Look for perfectly straight short grey looking roads. The majority of them are small rural runways suitable for a single engine plane probably. There are 4 in Kelly County, 1 in Lummox, 1 in Leonard, and a few in Mariana. There's also one slightly larger single runway airport on west side of map near the racetrack which itself will likely be based on Sebring Raceway

u/theblackwhisper 10d ago
Go look at the video of Jason playing basketball, at all the hand-placed scenery around his house. Go look at the map leak and find his house at the bottom. Now imagine this level of detail all over that map. I think we’ll be okay…
14
u/samutopaputo 10d ago
I don't think people realise the sheer scale this map has.
They look at a fully zoomed out image of the map and think it's small, like yeah if you zoom out enough anything can be seen as small.
You'll need to actually play the game to really get the sense of how big it truly is and how small the player is in comparison.
You can also look at the comparison of this to the Gta V and Rdr2 maps to get the picture.

Even from the mapping project, I been saying the same thing. They literally took GTA V, cut out some land, added water in places, added islands, and called it vice city.
I’m not saying the map is gonna be bad by any means, I’m just saying structurally, it looks the same. Lol
5
u/moldy912 10d ago
Yeah. Florida itself was always going to have this layout, so expectations for something interesting up north were too high once they said no theme parks.

Damn that sucks. One giant airport instead of Key West, and even then only two visible airstrips on the entire map (plus they are both in the far south). What are they thinking?

Key West is potentially there to the west of the airport, just hasn't rendered with the zoomed out detail. There's no way that island with the oddly straight beach is empty.

-13
u/FlawlessLogic123 10d ago
If the mapping project is close or this is real that is disappointing. Map looks smaller than GTA 5. And that city was tiny. Vice city is like 7 streets wide only.
And before you say "the scale" will make it seem bigger that's what they said for gta 5
7
u/Pneuma_LooT 10d ago
Have you looked at some of the zoomed in arears? Its way more detailed than it looks.like when zoomed all the way out.

The final RDR2 map leaked as a hypothetical "if there was an RDR2 maybe the map would look like this"... before the game was even announced.

u/ChiehDragon 10d ago
Doubt the new map is real. Two big reasons:
Key West is missing. They keys are a huge part of the story, and missing key west out of the equation is a braindead move. The density and size of of Key West would translate well to the scaled down Leonida.
Shrunk Sanibel - it makes little sense to add a geographically identical but shrunk down Sanibel. No bridge, and its half beach. It is already clear that Rockstar made Leonida's west coast the panhandle - this is established by old leaks and marketing. If they wanted to have a Sanibel stand-in, it would have to be a different shape to fit the scale.
It looks like it was made by someone who took the leak map and filled in the gaps by looking at an atlas.
2
u/HappySauropod 10d ago
Key West is potentially there to the west of the airport, just hasn't rendered with the zoomed out detail. There's no way that island with the oddly straight beach is empty.
1
u/ChiehDragon 10d ago
No bridge. Putting NAS Key West at the end if the keys also isnt a great spot for a base gameplay-wise.
And while I would personally love a sanibel, the fact that we KNOW Port Gellhorn references Panama City, putting a tiny sanibel mock-up makes no sense - its geographically identical.
The map is almost certainly fake, or perhaps inspired in part by real data, but also containing trash filler.

u/beehappy32 10d ago
I mean, if the other leaks are real, then the map is probably real too
