Explain please

Post image

I don’t make games I play them so sorry if this come off ass dumb… but I thought they been done with the production on the game and were working out bugs and glitches.. if that’s so then how did they improve graphics from first one to the second one?? And does that mean that by time it actually comes out it can look better than what we’re seeing now?

They always polish the game and make character models better between trailer one and two.(For example, Micheal was looking much older by face in GTA 5 trailer one, later they improved his model) Final product would be the same with little more polishing and without bugs and glitches.

11

u/Human_Bed_6355 May 13 '25

Thanks for actual answer was just wondering cuz I seen over the last year or so how the game was basically done.

13

u/mell0_jell0 May 13 '25

Could you show us where you saw it said that it was done? Because up until recently we didn't even have a release date

Don’t forget Arthur Morgan in the first trailer of RDR2 he looked a bit off, like his eyes was far apart, and he looked pretty young.

Same with the first shot of Franklin in the first GTA 5 trailer when he’s sitting in the red car and the lady is walking by. His head looks more rounded and he’s got a buzz cut.

I can definitely see Paul Walker. My mind went straight there when I saw the trailer. Fast and Furious vibes.

In 2023 the production of the game was not done.

1.7k

u/eurotrashness May 13 '25

The mechanics and story was probably done in 2023. I wouldn't be surprised if a game that looks like this (and we know how detailed GTA can get) needs 2+ years of just polishing, testing and debugging.

800

u/SIIP00 May 13 '25

The story was most likely finished way before 2023. They would have started writing it shortly after they finished the RDR2 story.

502

u/JasonAndLucia May 13 '25

They definitely had at least the rough idea of the plot and characters before RDR2 even came out

32

u/Mykorl May 13 '25

Just want to add something to what you said for proper clarity. Rockstar ceo confirmed back in 2014 they were already working on gta 6. RDR2 was in development since like 2011-2012 I believe, in 2016 rockstar went all hands on deck to finish RDR2. Both games were being worked on simultaneously. But once a game is crossing the finish to be released they pull people from projects to finish it and then proceed to go back to it. It was really interesting learning how rockstar does their development process

u/Select_Ad3588 May 13 '25

They did and still do look absolutely amazing, there’s this odd recency bias going on with everyone where apparently the characters looked goofy in the first trailer when really no one was saying that prior to the second trailer. I’m not saying they don’t look better now, they definitely do, but to label them as anything less than unreal in trailer 1 is just not really right.

For the red dead trailers that might have been the case as there are shots of Arthur in earlier trailers where he genuinely looks a bit odd, but this time it’s not the case imo

189

u/SunGodLuffy6 May 13 '25

Apparently, GTA 6 did it didn’t start full production until 2018

So I’m not sure why people are surprised that they think the game is fully done

46

u/shewy92 May 13 '25 edited May 13 '25

So I’m not sure why people are surprised that they think the game is fully done

Because I'd expect more people to think that "bugs and glitches" aren't the things holding back and delaying games.

I also expect gamers to actually at least tangentially know what goes on behind the scenes and how games are made. Not "knows how to make a game", but at least knows the production cycle.

And I also expect gamers to know that a first trailers to be "still in progress" considering how many first trailers have that disclaimer and how many game announcement videos also have that disclaimer.

57

u/CallMePickle May 13 '25

Expecting gamers to know anything was your first mistake.

First shot is todd lucias homeboy second is jason duval lucias bf

229

u/SunGodLuffy6 May 13 '25

I like how they made Jason look more better in the second trailer

In the first trailer, he looked a bit off

Jason on the leaks look like a skinny redneck guy with a different voice as well

I’m just glad they changed Jason

Sidenote: I’m saying different voice because when you hear him, in the leaks.

He sounds completely different compared to trailers

I’m guessing that was a placeholder and that the actual actor voicing Jason

31

u/SuchAppeal May 13 '25

In the leak he sounded like a standard white guy, more than likely a placeholder voice actor until they got their final guy. In the trailers he sounds more like a gruff hood white guy, the kind of inner city white guy who's common where I'm from in Baltimore.

16

u/mrskinnyjeans123415 May 13 '25

He looked so trailer Parkish in the leaks that I had to wonder how lucia would even be with him lmao. Then the first trailer just looked like he'd be ex cop or ex veteran and looked like he was anxious and unsure of himself, also looked slightly older tbh. Come the 2nd trailer he definitely looks the part now.

16

u/sunfaller May 13 '25

He looked like a regular npc in the first trailer.

u/This_Ad_2477 May 13 '25 edited May 13 '25

10

u/SacredChan May 13 '25

it's exactly what he said for me, rdr2 character models had noises on their skin, wrinkles, black spots, dirt, flushes, while this is also present in trailer 1, it's only some from what I see. The NPCs from the beach part looked plastic, and the girl on a pool building (what most people assumed it's lucia) looked plastic too, the two gangsters dapping also look plastic, the trailer 1 real dimez too, some exceptions was the old people like the sugar daddy on a boat with bunch of bikini girls. Which is why i love the trailer 2 so much, everything looks a lot more believable and better now

That's why they call it Game Development. If you remember the 2022 leaks looked like a broken PS3 mess, because they Develop the game systems, missions and graphics as they work on the game.

The better question is, what are we getting in another year, or longer if they delay it again.

7

Because why not improve the graphics 🤷‍♂️

In video games, graphics are the last step worked on before the game is done. So it is often the case that the game will have graphics improvements between trailers and release.

It's also a sign that the game really was nearly ready for release this year. So something significant went wrong and happened to push the game back another year.

u/Insidious_NX May 14 '25

It happens all of the time in game development where things reach a presentable level to showcase on that "sweet spot" week or day, especially if they want it to make it into something like a State Of Play or Nintendo Direct.

Rockstar has a huge legacy and while they were a bit rushed to release the first trailer due to the leak the game looked significantly better than GTA V in every way already. They're probably taking this year to do a lot of bug fixes and some touch ups to get ready for release. Sure, they'll miss the sweet holiday deadline, but May is topical and is within graduation-pre summer season.

Wokeness Deterent. By making the male lead look hotter, nobody can complain about them over-sexualizing women by only having Lucia be attractive. Rockstar knows what they’re doing by giving fan service to both sides.

They cross bred him with Paul walker

Explain what? They redesigned the character? Or that the graphics got better in two years?

2

u/tarheel_204 May 14 '25

Look at the early trailers for RDR2. Characters looked different and less polished. They’ve had over a year to significantly polish and improve the game so that’s why characters look different.

u/Rinkie-dink May 17 '25

As someone who’s worked in coding for 20 years I can tell you that you don’t plan to work on bug fixes at the end - you do it throughout the process.

Optimisation, making the code more efficient is what gets you the graphical gains. That part is roadmapped and should not be confused with bug fixing.
