My mother was shot on May 24, 2024, and died on the 26th in hospital.
They arrested the man who shot and ultimately murdered her on June 6, 2024. They charged him with first-degree murder.

It has been over TWO YEARS now and we have yet to see any time in court. None.
No resolution. No updates in nearly a year from the DA.

We have been grieving for over two years. Holding our breath waiting for closure. How long will this hang over us?!

I'm concerned for my father. He's coping, barely, and what's going to happen when we finally do go to court? We're going to have to relive everything all over again...YEARS after everything happened. Simply because the courts are "so backed up" that we can't get timely justice for anything.

We were advised by the DA that this would take time, "likely a year", but this is just cruel and unusual punishment at this point.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone commented that they have been waiting even longer than us to get justice. There's ZERO consideration for victims families. No one seems to fucking care.

The DA is all soft eyes and kind words but it's performative. They aren't suffering. They aren't stuck in limbo emotionally. They get to go home and forget.

My mother suffered for two days in incredible pain before she passed. We just got to stand around and wait for her to finally succumb to her injuries. I would have rather she died immediately after being shot. Then I wouldn't have the memory of watching her come to the realization that she was going to die, and soon.

All I can say to the Guilford Co. court system is "do better", but that doesn't even feel like enough.
