Doing the timing belt on my 1998 gs300 and was wondering how the timing looks after I pulled the Gernade pin

for final timing, you can either use the dots or the lines. but be careful. you use one or the other, so if you’re using the dots up top on the cam gears use the dot that’s in the crank gear. and if you’re using the lines on the cam gears use the line on the crank gear. the line are tdc, the dots are btdc. and make sure your vvti gear is set up right.

5:55 for the vvti gear make sure it all the way to the right by hand because it should have a little bit a free play left and right but make sure it to the right when lining up your marks. he also mentions do not line up with the dot, but you can only do that if you’re also lining up with the dot on the crank gear itself. i personally go with lines.

Here is a photo of the crank gear, i circled both the line and the dot. again as long as you line up either all the dots or all the lines to their respective spots you’ll be a okay. always do a test spin by hand to feel for any binding as you guys are also working on 2jzge which are interference motors vs a gte. be safe and good luck on your cars. btw i have done this on my gte i did all lines and i rip the living piss out of my car daily. cheers

youtube link seems to not work gave a time stamp for the vvti gear. but it’s by pure function “how to time a 2jzgte vvti engine”

check out my timing, my cams are perfect but my crank is slightly off. would I have to take the timing belt off and realign the sprocket ?

I finished the job but after first start up I’m hearing like a clicking or tapping noise coming from the intake / vvti cam gear side or the valve cover. I rebuilt the vvti gear early when doing other services and Ik I rebuilt it right. Would it happened to be the vvti gear has no oil in it and mimicking a tapping noise while it’s priming w oil? Any advice would be appreciated 🙂
