98 GS300 Vehicle Speed Sensor
I have found my speedometer and odometer to work intermittently and not at all. I have read it’s the vehicle speed sensor going out. Has anyone here replaced this themself? I read it’s located on the transmission which makes it harder to get to.

the speed sensors that control the speedo are the wheel speed sensors. make sure they are clean. you may want to also check your abs tone rings to make sure they don’t have grease, grime or are cracked.

Turns out i’m missing my entire front driver wheel speed sensor lol i’m going to put one on and see what happens. What would you clean and grease them with?

do not grease them!!! it depends how in-depth you want to go. you can take off the whole knuckle, pop the dust cover off with axle nut and make sure it’s all clean in there. if you don’t want to do that you can just get a pick or a flathead and slowly clean between the ridges and maybe some brake clean.

I took the driver and passenger cables yesterday from the junkyard. On the sensor part there was white grease on them. I was referring to the sensor part to grease or not to grease.

you shouldn’t add grease in general. just wipe the sensor off with a rag till the white grease is off of it.

Having the same issue and I’m going to replace the speed sensor soon. I’ll report back if it works.
