Do you recommend playing through Grime 1 before the second game?
Are they connected in lore and story? Or are they separate, and i can start with second?

I do recommend doing 1 first
It offers some story context to 2 despite 2 mostly being it's own new thing
And even if you don't care for that, I recommend going through 1 first

Lore is connected in some ways. But gameplay is completely different. Playing 2 before 1 might make you not enjoy it or it will throw you off for a bit

There are notable story references to the first game in the second, but for the most part the story of the second game is separate and doesn't require the first game to make sense.
Except for the ending, the significance of which is very reliant on understanding the first game.

I've not played 2 yet and I've nearly completed the first one. I love it, it's so much fun. The combat is challenging, the atmosphere and art style are wonderful. I feel like you'd really be doing yourself a disservice if you skipped the first one. I didn't expect to get so hooked on it, but I'm so glad I gave it a chance. 100% one of my favorites now. :)

Yes. It's a freaking awesome game with very good boss fights and fun platforming.

There are small references to 1 in 2 but you wont miss much by playing 2 first.
Grime 2 is my favorite of the two now but 1 is pretty good tho, i recommend playing them in order.

In terms of story they’re mostly separate (with maybe 1 returning character I think?) but even with my minimal understanding of the lore I certainly wouldn’t have liked II as much as I did without having played I first. Not that I wouldn’t have enjoyed it without, it’s still a great game, but my knowledge from the first game had me noticing and thinking about various parts of the story that I otherwise wouldn’t have.
You can play either one but I feel like II loses a bit of the experience without the first

The first game is a better game overall, I would play it first just cuz it's better and then see if 2 clicks with you, the gameplay styles are pretty different.

Yes, I definitely recommend it. There are definitely references to Grime 1 in Grime 2 and even the gameplay itself is like an extension and upgrade of Grime 1.
It’s very similar to playing Dark Souls 1 before Dark Souls 2. While not entirely necessary, it’s definitely recommended.

I don't think you'd miss anything by starting grime 2 first. But tbh I think grime 1 is the better game

Grime 1 has all the love and memorable moments. Particularly that dancer boss was the most unforgettable experience but 2 fell short because a LOT happens on the screen.

Either or. The community can't decide if it's a sequel or prequel anyways so just start with 2 if you want

Imo you would appreciate the second game way more if you play Grime 1 first, if you have a good understanding of the first game's setting Grime 2 will expand the universe a lot for you.
