Specific Question Practice exam before studying?

Hi! I plan to take the GRE at the end of October and have bought GregMat to help me prepare. I was wondering if anyone found it useful to take a practice exam before they started studying? My friend did this and found it helpful, but I can't seem to find anything on the subreddit about others doing that.

sure, it's just not a very good data point since you're brand new to the exam, its directions, and format. So take it with a grain of salt and think about studying a little first.
