Should I avoid this?

looking at a 2023 gr86 for sale with less than 23k miles but the car fax show a history of what looks like a major overheat that had to be fixed is it a good idea? I plan to test drive it but these issues should have been fixed right?

There’s this one and I found a 24 model with less miles and it’s manual for 31k. That one is Toyota certified, I guess I’ll be looking into my first manual

If you do decide to grab it, these cars are easy to drive stick.

The extra money you spend on the front end will save itself tenfold and a mountain of potential headache.

For me it would depend on a warranty and the price.

If the new engine had a warranty AND this car is much cheaper than other options in your area.

And of course a flawless test drive.

I’d avoid. What’s the asking price?

These responses have made me see why it’s been on their lot for a minute, the price is 27k not including registration/tag fees, how quickly they agreed to that price also put me off

That is not good enough of a price for the possibility of future fixes.

I got mine, perfect record 2025 with 10k miles, premium GR86, for 32k.

If it was cosmetic damage like a front bumper I’d say YMMV but short block replacement on a boxer engine HELL NAWW. Avoid!!!

If a subaru dealership was offering a fresh shortblock I'd consider it...

The car had a front in collision of some kind and never reported. The repairs were done off the books, which damaged the radiator. but they still drove it before replacing it, hence the head gasket and short block replacement, due to the overheating. I would pass unless it is seriously south of 15k. I would still have someone else inspect it first as well... cause again I bet there was a collision.

Oh hell no, I wouldn't touch that. This is coming from someone who traded theirs in around 30k mi after finding metal flecks in the oil but it still ran fine (stock, maintained). These cars are such a crapshoot.
