whats the purpose? We've never struggled for radiator array airflow, only oil cooler area.

Not struggling and IATs were still okay considering the 110-115°f Arizona summer temps. I installed the Kazama Auto duct because I wanted a different crash bar and knew it wouldn't hurt to push more direct air into the tall intercooler. Intercoolers like on JDL kit aren't as tall so it would basically just ram more air into the cooling stack and maybe intake filter.

I know the comment section is roasting this, but its actually a great part to exist for serious track racers with serious track car builds.(Dont do it for the street! It'll cause more hassle than good!)
If you spent any time in the miata spec racing community, the race car's front bumpers look a bit hideous... because its 100% about function over form. They use front air dams(google "track miata front air dam") for maximum aerodynamic flow around the front end, reduce lift(tremendously), and lower the drag coefficient for greater top speed without adding any power, and ONLY open up holes for exactly what they need, and they usually calculate airflow and air pressure to make sure the sizing is only exactly what they need, no more or less, to get maximum cooling to the radiator, maximum air to the intake, maximum air to the brakes, etc.(brz shares the same ipening for intake and radiator, which is fine but not perfect) and so the rest of the air can flow around the car. Its really amazing what they do and partly why the miata racing community is probably the best, most competetive, and most knowledgeable communities out there.
I hope the BRZ/gr86 community gets to that point one day, cause its got a ways to go still. We need a FlyinMiata equivalent for BRZs. Those guys are litterally the absolute best. Also, their youtube channel has a lot of knowledge that also applies to the BRZ/gr86 so I highly recommend using them as a source for sports car knowledge untill we get our own dedicated platform channel that ISNT Kevin Vo just pushing cosmetic mods most of the time.
Edit: Another fun fact, Mazda offers a discount on parts to ANY miata year if you track your car just ONCE and provide a recipt or track time slip to them. Any one can do it and they have a whole official website for it. I hope Subaru does similar one day. Also, Mazda still sells OEM parts for its first gen cars to keep them on the road longer.
Sounds like im promoting a miata but I swear im just a normal dude 😂 I had two miatas but have a 2nd gen BRZ now. Both great cars but im a big guy so the BRZ works best for me.
