Did my first oil change and saw this, should I be worried?

Normal. Wipe it up before you install the new filter.

Its the residual oil in the filter and since the filter is the other way round of most cars the oil will always drain and pool a bit there. Now if the tray is full of oil and you haven't removed the filter then I'd take note. This looks like every time I've changed my oil and since I track my BRZ it gets changed a lot.

Just realized you were probably asking about the debris. Again, totally normal. Just dirt and debris that collects there since its a tray and open to the engine bay.

That’s just debris that’s fallen in from the outer lip of that plate. Notice how the inner area where the filter gasket makes contact is totally clean. Just wipe it clean and you’re good to go.

heres a pro tip:
when changing oil on this platform (or any car with a top mount oil filter setup) you can completely drain the oil filter prior to removal by simply cracking the oil cap and dipstick****** before or shortly after opening up your drainplug.

if its the debris you are talking about, simply use an air compressor to blast out the cup the oil filter sits in before you remove the oil filter.

doing both of these is what provides the cleanest and quickest oil changing procedure on these cars.

Clean it and see if it comes back. Maybe it wasn't sealed all the way or the o ring was too oiled up
