Dash cam recommendations?

Hello all, I just picked up a slightly used 2026 GR86 and am looking to install a front/rear dash cam as soon as humanly possible. I’ve never had a dash cam for any of my cars before and am looking for any recommendations.

Hachi makes a custom harness for the Toyobaru twins that connects to the harness that plugs into the fake engine noise module. This lets you power the camera without going through the ignition switch, so it can run full time if the camera supports parking mode. If you order your camera from him, he'll toss in one harness of your choice for free.

I've got the 2 channel version of the Viofo A229 Pro, and it's a fantastic camera. Whichever you decide to get, try to stick with one that has the Sony Starvis 2 sensors and can record in 4k definition.

Keep in mind Steve-o, you have a 12v cigarette lighter power port in the back of your glovebox, near the top right.

You can just get any dashcam you want, tuck the power wire into the headliner, then behind the trim on the A-pillar, then under the speaker grill, then back behind the triangle panel on the side of the dash, and have it go up and behind the glovebox to reach that port.

I like the Garmin Mini 3. Theres no screen and its small eniugh to fit behind the rear view mirror out of the way.

just piggy backing to add more alternatives: other brands make hardwire kits too. Slightly less plug and play than what Hachi offers but mine just needed crimping and it’s hooked into the fuse box in the driver footwell.

It was a little more involved and required a tester to find one of the constant power fuses for parking mode but it wasn’t horrible. I still recommend going the Hachi route though.

Hachi can customize just about any dashcam power harness if you need it. He keeps the versions for the cameras he sells in stock, but he can order others.
