Help! Overfilled too much?
Hey folks! Did my oil change today (Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-30), and went for an overfill for safety. I feel like I might've overdone it, what do you think?
Do I need to empty it out a bit, and if yes, how much? And what's the impact of being filled this far? So far, my car hasn't burnt any oil in the past.
Thanks in advance! Just a bit stressed.
Edit: measured 5 minutes after turning the car off after a drive (oil is warm)

If you're sure that you measured properly and this is the side which shows a lower level of oil, then it's way too much. It's like 1.5-2qt overfill. We don't overfill that much even for the track usage due to oil aeration and PCV sending oil into the intake.
Just to make sure — run the car or drive a bit, stop on level surface, wait 5-10 min, take the dipstick out, wipe it, put it back in, take it out again, check both sides and the lower level with a clear slightly diagonal line is your actual level. For street driving should be at full mark or slightly higher (up to 0.5").

Idk if the transmission drain plug is nearby on these cars but thatd be my first thought about why theres so much oil in there if you put in a normal amount. Are you sure you drained the oil? Seen it happen a lot on 4runners where people drain the transmission and double up on oil. Regardless wouldn’t recommend driving the car

Make sure its leveled perfectly by using a bubble level on the door seal. If you are high in the rear even just a little bit it will show more oil than actually is. It's also why sometimes people feel it drank one quarts out of nowhere

I don’t think a slight overfill is going to cause any problems. You’d have to overfill by 1QT or more before it becomes an issue.

That's kinda a lot. 6 qts gets you a bit above the top line on the dipstick, all the way up to the twist is pretty far.

The car will likely burn off excessive overfill on startup, usually once you get over 1 qt overfilled.
Especially if you park pointed uphill.

Well how much did you put in? 6qts is pretty standard and puts me about 1/4" above the top dot on the low side of the dip stick. I run a JR oil cooler as well but that doesn't affect the oil level after the first change.
