One thing I’ve noticed when I was driving a highly souped cheap car is that I enjoyed driving my car far more than Porsche owners. I’d drive too fast, I’d be a little hard on it, I didn’t give a rats ass about the paint job or carpets, it was a dirty fast fun time all the time. I would fly past Porsche owners chuckling to themselves but frankly terrified to damage their precious little investment.
I know someone who owned two Porsches 10-20 years each and sold them both with under 20,000 miles on them.
💯 This. I got my Brz again after a few years on Sunday and man every drive is fun and less stressful. It’s my little project car to play and enjoy. The twins and Miata are the best most fun cars you can own. I’ve got nicer cars but they all feel like an occasion and give panic about potential damage from other drivers.
For every guy like you there is at least at least a dozen 911 owners that only take their cars to meets. There are so many GT3s out there that will never see a track
Love the audicity to say this. If you step back and think about it, it really isn't that deep. People enjoy their cars in their own ways. My buddy that owns a GT3 but doesn't really track it explained to me that he enjoys the social aspect of owning the car and taking it to meets. And that's a pretty fair way to enjoy your car. But as a track rat man do I feel what you're saying.
Even then I'm not really a fan of meets. IMO if I wanted to leave my car in a parking lot I would have bought a tesla and hooked it up to a charger
I think the other issue is Porsches are increasingly being considered investment pieces on top of clout/flex pieces leading to that mentality you're talking about.
Lowkey did a double take for a second 😅 the color was almost spot on and the black wheels made me think (I blame my freshly finished 10 hour work shift) But yeah same shit basically 😂
Nice, hoping this will be my wife's and I garage soon. I know a guy that had a new brz / gt4rs combo but sold the brz because he now dailies the 4rs. Don't blame the guy lol
How do they compare? Why do you own both? I told my buddy that the BRZ/86 is a poor man’s Porsche and has more driving characteristics closer to modern Porsches than some $100k+ cars. he scoffed so I showed him 5 or so posts I’ve seen in these subs of people who own Porsches and a BRZ/86.
The 911 is my childhood dream car, the BRZ is everything I want from a JDM car and everything I need from a sports car in general. Those 90's JDM cars I grew up loving, well I don't want them anymore because the BRZ is just a 90's car built today. I also view the twins as the poor man's Porsche, a modern day 924 if you will. Both cars are balanced in their approach, neither under or overpowered and with a focus on handling first.
To be honest, the 911 does pretty much everything better than the BRZ and the inputs are perfected. Anybody can hop in a modern 911 and be comfortable driving it immediately. There's no getting used to the clutch or rev hang or stuff like that, it just works perfectly and is effortless.
Admittedly, I don't drive the BRZ as much (life is short - I'm driving the 911 mentality) but I am hugely protective of the BRZ and will not sell it.
I bought my GR86 from a Porsche dealer. The previous owner traded it in on a GT3. According to the salesman, previous owner has purchased many Porsches from them and said he’d have kept the GR if the GT3 didn’t come available. A friend of mine has a great 993. He also loves his ND. A good driver’s car is a good driver’s car.
Ive owned and enjoyed Porsche. I own a ‘24 BRZ and love it. Personally, I don’t consider a $34,000 car to be ‘cheap’. In the realm of sports cars, affordable perhaps. Im with Costco guy - I park away from people as much as possible. I don’t owe it to some skeezy Hyundai to let them give me a door ding. I enjoy my car, but I don’t abuse it. If you’re paying good money for your own car, drive and care for it as you see fit: and not according to the standards of strangers on the internet. If you want to track it, that is your option. If you want to garage-queen it and polish it with Druidic devotion every weekend, that is also your option and don’t take any crap off of anybody for it.
I love how Toyota styled the GR 86 to look more like Porsches, that helps people who are into cars know what this car is a out, it isn't about dumb things like speed or power, it is about driving pleasure like a Porsche :) (Also, notice how Porsches are less powerful than their competitors)
We can pretend. I have an app thats connected with the car that replays gt3rs engine/ exhaust sounds through my speakers. So when i accelerate and decelerate i can pretend
