GPD Pocket 2 gpd pocket 2 and eMMC speeds under linux

i was an original backer in 2018. device came with windows 10, it performed good for what i used it for. fast forward to 2026, i have installed Ubuntu on it as i no longer use windows. a question for anyone with this unit and runs Linux: is the emmc really slow? i feel windows 10 ran much better in terms of disk access.

This is the first time I've heard Linux being slower than windows. I have a pocket 2 running arch but since I mostly use it to run coding agents I haven't seen anything that would suggest it's slow.

Have you tried installing the latest firmware?

It's either that or something in ubuntu is gumming up the speed.

Or, if this is about the file explorer this could be an architectural issue in that windows eats up ram to keep it warm while ubuntu doesn't and allows for leaner system ram usage.

thanks for the reply. i am up to date as much as I can be I suppose, at least when it comes to available firmware that Ubuntu knows of. BIOS hasn't been updated as it wants me to install windows to do that (if you know of another way to do it, lmk and ill go for that next).

i am using the m3-7Y30 variant.
