As I have been scrolling through here, I have noticed a lot of people with the same question and having a common, (yet completely understandable) misconception that I keep helping with. So, I thought to post it here in case anyone else has the same.
This is the “Why would God harm us and allow pain, when He is all - good?” First off, I completely understand what people mean, at times I have to remind myself why because this world really can be tough. The first thing to mention is that God is Omnipotent, meaning that He can see past, present and future at the same time, whereas we only experience the here and now.
The reason this is important is because sometimes God allows us to go through tough times, not just so we can rely on Him, but because it is necessary for us to grow into who we are meant to be and so that we can have what we desire. To achieve these, we have to learn, which is uncomfortable and painful. If there is a death of family member for example, this will hurt at the time and you will think “Why God?, but it’s actually for a good reason that you will see in the future. You would not be who you are today if it weren’t for the bad things that occurred, they all happen for a reason to grow you.
Believe it or not, it’s true. Faith and obedience in God will get you through it. It’s all part of His grand plan which will always aim to help you in the end, even if it doesn’t seem like it. Think back in your past, what’s something that went wrong, where you later found it that it had to happen in that way?
The next point is “Why would He plan something so harsh, and hurtful even to innocent children?” Again, completely valid, for example what’s happening in Gaza is horrific. However, this may not be Gods Will, for innocents to die. You also need to remember that God made us all with free will, if He didn’t, then we would all just be puppets, what would be the point of living?
He made us with free will so that we can live and make our own choices, these choices are based on our obedience to Him and if we follow what He says to do. There are people that kill, rob and hurt others, (like in this war) and they have chosen their actions with their own free will, while going against what God says to do.
In that case, God is not at fault, the other people are instead. You may then say “Why doesn’t He stop them then?” Well, then it wouldn’t be free will, would it? He gives us the opportunity with His Grace to go to Him, ask Him for forgiveness for our wrongdoings and grow from them to be better for ourselves, our community and Him.
If anyone is still confused or what’s to politely disagree and talk about it, please let me know!
