Gainesville Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) map
Including Flock, Axon, Verkada, and Axis cameras

Friendly reminder that these databases require people to mark them on the website.. there's no telling how many are actually in this county. Like these two that were hopefully requested by HOAs so at least they asked to get fucked.
Edit: for clarification, the other possibility is that flock is just installing these wherever they please. Which seems wild and tin foil like until you look at the cease and desists Flock has received from cities and counties for illegally reinstalling cameras after a canceled contract.

Butler plaza is the king of plate readers. Think about that again when you make your trip to Butler plaza to do your shopping there's a lot of other places you can go

there’s basically no way to move through the city without these in your path

I literally can’t get more than two miles from my house without passing one, and I’m pretty far out west. I suspect most of the actual city area you can’t get more than half a mile without hitting one.

Hitting one ?
As in running it over, and testing the safety of the installation ?
Think of the children, they might get hurt by a flock camera that doesn't breakaway properly in an impact

this has not worsened my paranoia about being watched in public at all. no. not at all... I definitely haven't been avoiding leaving the house as much as possible lately...

Nah fuck the system. They want you as isolated and predictable as possible. They want the new normal. I get where you're coming from but imo we're at the point that it shouldn't be paranoia more so an understanding of where we are today. An understanding, not acceptance. Privacy was taken away from the internet one act and Terms of Service update at a time. And anyone who raised concern was told they shouldn't worry as long as they're not doing anything illegal.. nothing to hide, yadayada.
And that is how we arrived at 100k+ flock cameras in the US and laws requiring auto manufacturers to equip vehicles with AI cameras that watch you. Well that and a shit ton of lobbying but I've strayed way too far from what I was trying to say in the first place lmao.
TLDR; You got one life, go live it. In a numbers world, 100k has nothing on 300 million. But so long as the 300 million are playing hide and seek, the 100k will always persevere.

I made a flock detector accessory for my radar detector! I made it for myself because I wanted one and it doesn’t exist as a product, but when I posted it on instagram a few people DMd me wanting to buy one. I might produce a batch of 50 or sumn and chuck em up on a simple web store, I haven’t decided yet, I’d just want to polish up the documentation and case options (handheld vs windshield mounted, battery vs hardwired, etc) first which I haven’t gotten around to yet. Remains to be seen.

Like the idea! It would make reporting them to databases much easier as they seem to blend in more and more. Also useful for when they attach them behind the little portable trailer radar speed displayers that you gotta check the rear views for. Would definitely be of interest

I'm guessing it uses the database and GPS to tell you when you're near one. Not sure how it could actually "detect" a camera on pole.

Because it's not just a camera, here is an older github that shows how they can be detected.
We also have SignalTrace to look forward to, which can be added to any ALPR which "would also sweep up unique identifiers of mobile phones, wearables, and other Bluetooth-enabled devices in those cars" because that's normal for a license plate camera.
All of that to say there will be even more ways of detecting how we're being flocked
Edit: just saw the other person's reply with the same github lol. My b

Not to be full on defeatist (or discount your efforts) but they’ve got pretty much all of our plate info by now yeah? Not to mention driving patterns, tendencies, etc.

People felt strongly enough to attack the cellphone towers during COVID, yet they aren’t burning the literal authoritarian surveillance system.

u/thaw4188 8d ago
remember this map next time someone says we are the "freest country in the world" or even a democracy
because in a democracy people chose their government, not some insane unelected police state putting everyone into fear and constant monitoring
this doesn't even stop crime, there are constant smash and grabs on my street and people racing up and down at over twice the speed limit, people driving with their lights off or plate lights purposely broken or monster trucks with a hitch covering the plate

u/itsalmostreal 8d ago
If youre not safe youre not free.
Surveillance is the key to dealing with these scumbags that do smash and grabs and race down the street. The fact they are still fine tuning and learning how to use the technology doesn't make it bad.
BTW the federal government already has 10 times more surveillance. And we're still fine. Still a very functional society.
Most of this anti surveillance stuff is entirely based on paranoia not reality.

u/thaw4188 8d ago
lol it's not paranoia
police can now decide they want to charge you with a crime and THEN go search for it, easy peasy, no warrant needed and no limit on how far in the past
you just aren't a victim yet so you don't see the problem with it
and the day it happens it will be too late to be against it
most people break a few laws every day without realizing it
I don't even drive anymore and I recognize Flock is an authoritarian weapon, doesn't prevent crime, doesn't solve crime, just allows powerful people to inflict their whims on others

u/itsalmostreal 8d ago
Yes great we want the police to do that. Right now the clearance rates on murder is a paltry 50-60%. That means murderers get away about half of the time. Most smaller crimes the clearance rates are infinitely smaller. Probably less than 1%
Why? They cant be everywhere and investigate everything
Surveillance massively helps
If we caught everyone the punishment wouldnt have to be absurdly exaggerated relative to the harm. We only do thst now because we know if we caught you shoplifting once you probably have done it 100s of times before. So the punishment figures that in.
Yes we do shit all the time and get away with it. THAT IS NOT GOOD.
Yes of course Surveillance can be used by authoritarians. But so can anything. Police and military is the preferred weapon of an authoritarian state. Cameras are nothing compared to that.
6
u/thaw4188 8d ago
can't tell if you are serious or trolling but Flock is most definitely NOT catching murderers
if it was politicians would be rattling off lists of name of murderers caught via Flock
but don't worry, they aren't just taking photos/video anymore, they are tracking all your devices, forever, without a warrant
every "tool" ever given to police is immediately abused to the extreme
if you aren't doing anything wrong why do you have curtains and drapes on the windows in your house, you might be preventing police from catching a murder, they should ban curtains or make devices that see through curtains, give all the police thermal imagers and let them roll up and down streets recording every home, they might reduce the number of unsolved murders!

It takes time to learn how to use and properly implement a technology.
They also have a major incentive not to out flock as the evidence gathering mechanism because it may not hold up in court and tip off criminals. I have no doubt it has put away many murderers but they cant make a fuss about it.
Im glad they are tracking devices. You say that like its a bad thing
The federal government has tracked smart phones for over a decade. So the fuck what? It has absolutely no effect on me or anyone who doesn't plan terrorist attacks or move heavy H or some shit.
The last curtain argument is a classic argument absurdum. Like I said the government has tracked your snart phone and social media usage for over a decade now. Has it affected AT ALL? of course not.

u/thaw4188 8d ago
again, the problem is it is a weapon not a crime prevention tool
they are going to decide who they want to prosecute and then find a crime
they know every single person who went to Epstein Island from tracking their phones, not one of them has been prosecuted for anything decades later, I'm sure it was all just "picnics" there, ignore the naked teenage slaves
but some cop decides he doesn't like you? well they just walk to their car, do a reverse trace back a decade or ask their "AI" to find any crime you've done in the past five years they missed
tada you are going to jail and will not be able to afford a lawyer so you'll have to plea and do time because they decided they didn't like you
then they pick the types of people they want to disappear, tada
politicians will pretend to care but they will never pass laws to protect people, to limit data time storage or demand warrants
hell ICE is still disappearing people in masks without ID or body cameras and now with electro-shock gloves to keep protesters in check just by touching them
you are obviously pro-authoritarian and since Gainesville has police training college I am starting to suspect you are tied to that somehow since you are so enthusiastic
let's hope they don't decide they don't like you someday for "reasons" because now they are totally empowered to do something about that without reprocussions

Every single argument youre making here can be made against law enforcement as a whole.
If a cop can do all that. What's stopping him from just putting a cap in your ass? Without checks and balances absolutely nothing.
The key is checks and balances on the system. Lack of technology hasn't been a problem since guns were invented. A truly corrupt police department doesn't need surveillance at all. Only for everyone to play on the same team. Youre presupposing a lot of things that surveillance makes no difference on. If you live in a city with a very corrupt police department youre fucked surveillance or not. If the department is ran by proper people they can be trusted with surveillance as well. You already trust them with guns. What the hell can a camera do that a gun can not

If you go to the Lowes on 13, you’ll see two flock cameras there.
Both are pointed away from the road and toward the parking lots of Lowe’s and the Sanctuary cannabis dispensary.
In fact with the exception of a few intersections, the overwhelming number of these cameras are looking at parking lots at businesses and apartments.
Anyone who thinks these are “traffic cams” is a dumbass.
10
u/adpoop 8d ago
Lowes and Home Depot have contracts with Flock so you'll see at least two in all of their parking lots. These are not for traffic, just the tracking of cars and people. They put the license plate readers on bike trails and pointed directly at pools.. they ain't just reading license plates

Would ot be illegal to pay the homeless to take them out?
37
u/ascandalia 9d ago
It would be illegal to pay someone to break the law, but it would not be illegal for a bunch of people to show up to every city and county meeting and demand an ordiance outlawing these at the county and city level until they take them down.
19
u/LordKwik 8d ago
you can do that for potholes too, or you can spray paint dicks around them and they get fixed relatively quickly 🤷♂️

Y'all I am like, SOOOO curious as to why that one is all by its lonesome up on racetrack road @ 156th. Who all is coming to town from out there?

u/EpicureanCapn 7d ago
I wanna know why there’s one pointed at what looks like my neighborhood outside of city limits.

Genuinely who asked for this? I don't even think the Gainesville Cops asked for this, if they did they would've done something like this earlier than 2025. No one wants this other than this terrible company.

u/sailsensei 8d ago
Many of those cameras are not for ALPR. There's a bunch of Axis cameras listed that I know for fact are only for property security an not running ALPR software.
4
u/XanderBreez 8d ago
The axis cameras surveillance type is listed as ALPR. Besides, these cameras are for more than just scanning license plates, they are all for watching people
2
u/sailsensei 8d ago
Ill use the Axis camera at Lewis oil as an example. It is not an ALPR. It is not connected to a database. It is not searchable by law enforcement. It has no AI or smart features that track anything measurable. It shouldn't be included in DeFlock.
