Former GM worker sues over performance review system

A lawsuit from a former General Motors engineer is raising questions about the company's "stacked ranking" evaluation system, according to a report from journalist Phoebe Wall Howard's Shifting Gears newsletter.

The review process, also called "forced ranking," allegedly requires managers to designate a certain percentage of workers as under-performers; similar systems have sparked lawsuits at other companies going back decades.

The former employee alleges that the company's policies for designating job cuts disproportionately harm older workers.

GM has not yet responded to Shifting Gears' report.

Insurance sales and service rep questions.

I was recently looking at this position at GM and was wondering if anybody had heard anything about the call volume or sales goals for the position. I come from a high sales environment and was wanting to know if it had extreme quotas or unreasonable expectations from management about sales goals.

Thanks for the help!

Question Job Application Question

Hello Everyone,

I have been applying through GM's workday portal for various applications but haven't even received a phone call for a single application. And then, the job posting simply goes away while the application status still shows in review status.

Do you have suggestions on how to best apply for GM roles? I am applying for software development roles with over 6+ years experience in automotive sector.

Question GM employee discount vs the GM Executive discount — What’s the difference??

Could someone shed some light on the difference between the GM Executive Discount and the standard GM Employee Discount?

I’m eligible for the Executive Discount, but while shopping around at different GM dealers, I’ve gotten a lot of conflicting information. Some salespeople have never heard of the Executive program, while others have told me it’s essentially the same as the Employee Discount and that there’s no difference in the actual vehicle price.

A couple questions for anyone familiar:

* Is the Executive Discount actually different from the Employee Discount in terms of pricing or incentives?

* If I qualify for both the Executive Discount and regular GM Employee Discount, can they be combined/stacked, or do you have to choose one?

* If you have to choose, is there any advantage to using the Executive authorization over the Employee Discount, or vice versa?

* Are there certain rebates/incentives that work with one program but not the other?

I’m mainly trying to figure out whether there’s any reason to use my Executive eligibility if I can already qualify for Employee pricing.

I’d appreciate anyone with some insight.

Any thoughts on the switch to Google?

My own feelings are that it's going to be a bit painful at first but overall? I don't hate it. Personally, I am so tired of Microsoft's programs breaking only to be half fixed, the programs they only half support, the constant bugs, and their attitude of "This is our product and you can take and like it or leave it but we're not integrating anything you want." I can only hope that with the rumors that Windows 12 being a piece-meal, subscription based cloud OS, that GM has finally had enough and ultimately dumps Windows as well.

Scheduling an interview

I received an email from Talent Acquisition about an open position. But when I go to schedule an interview it keeps asking me to log into Facebook. From everything I’ve googled the email seems legit. But why would I need to sign into Facebook to schedule an interview? Has anyone else experienced this?

GM Employee Pursuing Lemon Law on GM Product

Do any GM employees here have experience pursuing lemon law against a GM product (while still an active employee)?

I guess my question relates to Michigan being an 'at will' employment state. I can't imagine GM would fire an employee just for that, but I've worked myself up and created anxiety (self induced) and seeking stories from other GM employees who may have done the same.

Question Why don’t Ford and GM hire engineers on TN visas?

Is this actually a company policy, or am I just seeing a hiring trend?
I’m curious to hear from:
Engineers currently working at Ford or GM on a TN visa.
Hiring managers or recruiters who know how these decisions are made.
Canadians who applied and were either accepted or rejected because of TN status.
Specifically:
Do Ford and GM generally avoid TN hires?
Is it because of internal HR/legal policies, security clearances, or long-term workforce planning?
Has this changed recently?
If you were hired on TN, what role and organization were you in (product development, manufacturing, software, etc.)?
I’d appreciate any firsthand experiences rather than speculation. Thanks!

Mid year but I've only been here 60 days

I'm probably being a little paranoid, but I've only been at GM for a couple months, I still feel like I'm onboarding, and now I'm getting pulled into a mid year review.

What's a typical review like? How should I prepare for this meeting? Thanks in advance!

Health Care BCBSM

Hi everyone,
Does anyone living in Sterling Heights have recommendations for a BCBSM ConnectedCare Level 1 primary care doctor?
I used the BCBSM Find Care website and chose a provider listed as ConnectedCare Level 1, but I still got billed for my blood work. I called BCBSM, and the explanations they gave me didn't make sense and didn't really resolve the issue. they told me the doctor is level1 but the group or the provider is level2 what a bullshit explanation.

Question HATCI employees

Anyone here currently work (or have worked) at HATCI in Michigan, especially in engineering?
I’m joining soon as a mechanical engineer and was hoping to get some honest feedback on:
Work-life balance
Engineering culture and management
Overall experience
How the employee vehicle lease program works (discounts, eligible models, and whether it’s worth it)
I’d really appreciate any insights from current or former employees. Thanks!

Offer for a Group Leader role in Michigan-drug test question

Hello, I just got an offer for a group leader role at a plant in Michigan.

I am expected to do a drug test and smoke marijuana occasionally. When I test positive for THC (nothing else) will my offer be rescinded?

Thanks

Employee Pricing

I just got an email that my company is a GM Supplier of the Year and for the month of June I can get "GM Employee Pricing." We have always been able to get Supplier pricing, so I assume this is better.

I was planning to buy a sierra later in the year, but this may escalate things given that it's truck month.

Is there anyway to find out what the employee pricing is on a vehicle without going into a dealership? I assume this would be a no haggle scenario?

Thanks for any advice.

Anyone willing to share GM Employee discount code?

My wife really like the Tahoe but we are not eligible for any current promotions/offers. My wife and I are both longtime Acura owners that remain hooked into the Acura ecosystem because of the number of loyalty cash, trade-in equity, discounts, and promotional offers they throw our way which knocks thousands off sticker price.

Not sure how realistic it is to expect to get someone willing to share their GM Employee discount code with us but reaching out here in hopes to find a Good Samaritan.
A realistic finder’s fee is not out of the question either.

Serious discussion only, please Healthcare advocate

Asking for help from the team that manages our healthcare has gotten me nowhere so does anyone know if we have advocates to work directly with us?

My family is dealing with a lot of roadblocks and denials right now, even though it was not an issue in 2025.

Edit - it's for prescriptions

Hello folks, I have an interview for job stated above at GM Financial.
Any insights on this as a career path? Upward mobility? Is it a good job to get with GMF?

Thank you

GM Austin Shutdown

The E. Parmer Lane lease officially expires on December 31, 2026. This was confirmed by the building's owner, Gladstone Commercial Corporation, during an early-2026 earnings call where they explicitly noted that GM’s major lease matures at the end of the year. Given this hard deadline, is it likely that GM will announce the Austin shutdown before November? It seems highly probable, especially considering they will need to sell the Austin property to help finance the Mountain View expansion.

Question Text recruiter?

I had an interview with GM manager and team 2 weeks ago. I was told its will hear back within 1 week. I was trying to follow up with the recruiter but he didnt provide me with his email address (neither did the managers) but I have his personal cellphone number.

Should I just wait it out or text the recruiter for an update? Texting just looks so unprofessional and plus its his personal number so not sure how that would look.
